It's an album which I'd recommend listening to if you like Dream Theater, but mainly due to the fact that I think being a completionist is a good thing. It's probably my least favourite DT album though, so I can't honestly say that it would be a good buy. I think that it was probably a good thing Kevin Moore left after it...it just seems to me that they'd started losing their sound a bit, and Ruddess gave them some more momentum to go and make Scenes From A Memory.
Moore wasn't on FII, it was Derek Sherinian |
indeed, and he's an awesome keyboardist, only not quite fitted for the DT style.
he played on ACoS too. his solowork is quite amazing, as is Planet X ( if I'm not messing up the names) |
So, what does everyone think about John petrucci's solo album?
|
I love it quite a bit, the song tells a nice story in it own way, without vocals.
it reminds me a bit of LTE. the album shows sides that Petrucci can fit in to newer DT cd's. I also find the bass (which is quite high in the mix) to be exellent |
[qutoe]the jazzy guitar solo in blind faith is so cool too, as well as the piano solo.
Blind Faith has my favorite JP solos.
So, what does everyone think about John petrucci's solo album?
I actually just got a copy of it, but I've yet to listen to it. |
I really like Petrucci's solo stuff. I'm digging that album a lot right now.

I enjoy the heavier songs more. \m/ Jaws of Life \m/ |
uh, just a short question, I downloaded the album, and I have a track called 'Interlude'but this doesn't appear on the tracklisting, anyone know what this is about?
it's track 7 and lasts 0:59 |
It's a CD problem - the track Curve is split between 6 and 7. It's like that on the CD too, if I remember correctly.
|
I really need to get that Petrucci solo album, I've been meaning to buy it for ages but I've just kept spending money on different things.
I had a great band practice today; I play in a blackened tech death band but all the stuff we'd done so far had just been writing between me (guitar) and vocalist. I went to practice today, and it turns out the drummer is a huge Dream Theater fan, we played 'Learning To Live', 'Stream Of Consciousness', 'Metropolis Part One' and parts of 'The Dance Of Eternity'. If I get a chance to record with this guy, I'll post some Dream Theater tracks in here. |

thank you kind. If I ever see the original album in my store and I have the money, I will buy it :) |
I may be wrong here, but isn't the album only available from John's official site? I haven't seen it in any CD stores. Like I said, I could be wrong.
|
^
ow hahah that explains, why I haven't seen it anywhere, if I can only order it of his site, nevermind, that's a bit too much trouble |
Its not too much trouble to download it.
|
would you like me to upload his solo album?
|

if you come into a Dream Theater thread and ask for their best 3 albums you will get a mixed answer and possibly spark of more debate amongst everyone. My three are: Scenes From A Memory Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence Train Of Thought those are the more heavier kind of albums but they all still have prog stuff in them. |
I got A Change of Seasons this morning. Great album - and the covers are marvellous. The only problem I have with it is that they could have played a bit more of the songs they covered. The whole of Bohemian Rhapsody would have been great :)
|
My only complaint with that album is they didn't cover Rush.
|
Hmm... Dream Theater playing 2112. I live in hope.

I'd really like to hear that. That's one of my favorite songs. |

Who did they cover? I've got their cover of Hey You on my computer and its amazing, quite possibly better than the original. |
Who did they cover? I've got their cover of Hey You on my computer and its amazing, quite possibly as better than the original.
No, it really isn't. |

replace x's with t can someone please, PLEASE, listen to that and identify the various riffs. I think its only like 3 or 4, but im looking specifically for the first one and the faster one after it. If it matters, its before a live recording of Different strings. |
Finally got Suspended Animation...and only two and a half months after I ordered it!
Glasgow Kiss = pwnage :thumb: |
Awake is starting to grow on me. 6DOIT is really expensive, is it really worth buying?
|
yes it is worth it
and remeber it's a double cd. it's worth it's price for the glass prison alone ;) |
The Glass Prison was the original reason I wanted to buy it. Any other staples on that album?
|
blind faith, and the entire 2nd disc ( which is one song)
it's really worth your money the great debate is great too (very floyd like) go buy it, you won't be disappointed ;) |
I got from Six Degress... from play.com for the sum of 10 English pounds :D Well worth it, especially since it's my favourite DT.
The Great Debate Floyd like? I would rather say Tool than PF imo. |
Speaking of the glass prison. I heard that The glass prison, this dying soul and the root of all evil share the same lyrical theme. Is that true and if so, what is it?
|
Thing is I bought 8 albums with my last paycheck and my job has been closed for remodleing for the past two weeks so my paycheck will be like 39 bucks.
|

Taken from dtfaq.com-
TGP was written about the first 3 steps in the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Program, and after SDOIT came out Mike said he would like to write a song on each album that continued with that theme. This Dying Soul is about steps 4 and 5. The two songs share some lyrics and a riff, and there is also some small references to The Mirror, which is about the same subject.
|

it's about the 12 step aloholics anonymous program, each song discribes a few steps of the plan :) |
