I'm going to buy a jacket and cover it in patches etc...
I know this is probably been asked/dealt with alot but what is the best kind of jacket to use. I'm not to worried about the jacket itself, i just want something easy to put patches on!

I don't have one, but I'd imagine it'd probably be a denim one, since that seems like it'd be easiest to pierce.

Denim is thick, but easier to pierce then leather. Military style is the easiet, but usually the more pricer and harder to find.

i got a sweet leather/denim needle for my sewing machine i had no idea they existed i had been using pliers and a needle

The city I used to live in had a Wal-Mart and Target right next to each other.

Also, having a Wal-Mart doesn't kill the local economy. If the prices are so much lower, than people will use the money they save and buy things from other stores. Either way, it is good for the consumer.

If they can get it from Wal Mart, they don't bother going to other stores and buying stuff, killing the small business man. And its not good for the consumer, because as they drive their prices down, they demand the manufacturers to make things cheaper, so they can sell them cheaper, so you end up getting a shotty product. And less competition is horrible for the consumer, because once a monopoly is established, they can start raising prices, and since there is no alternatives, you are faced to pay more.

It pays to pay attention in Economics class.

so my friend Derrik got a backpatch, sewed it to a big peice of white fabric, and sewed a zipper on the top to make himself a DIY butt flap/fanny pack. Its pretty handy, but I never really got into the whole hanging a back patch off your belt thing myself.
