Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See

Brilliant, brilliant album.

Also, Psychocandy is finally gracing my ears.

Tomahawk 12-16-2004 08:25 AM

I've basically only listened to Talking Heads today. Such a loadblowingly good band. They might actually be on the way to being one of my favourite bands ever.

asymm 12-16-2004 09:14 AM

picked up a few...

Cocteau Twins - "Treasure"
XTC - "Skylarking"
Duran Duran - "Rio"
Roxy Music - "Country Life"

Tomahawk 12-16-2004 09:16 AM

Oh nice, Treasure is a great album. And of course, Duran Duran rule the world.

asymm 12-16-2004 09:31 AM

yeah, Treasure has been very nice to me so far. I can easily see myself picking up more Cocteau Twins during my Christmas break...

I like.

Jellyspoon 12-16-2004 04:13 PM

St. Germain, yes orbdragon, he is a legend.

It's been a while since I posted in Alt/Indie, but I heard a band that made me very excited, that is to say 'death from above 1979'. They're a bass/drums/vox duo from Canada, that play this squeltchy hyper-energetic funky punk/metal. The songs are full of good hooks. If you are interested, download 'Little Girl' to hear a song that makes a modest guy go bonkers in his bedroom, and I hope in an Indie disco very soon.

Paranoidd 12-16-2004 04:20 PM

Down and Portishead. I have recurring obsessions with these two bands.

That link was delicious.

I finally have enough money to buy Grace: Legacy Ed. yay. I'm liking Lazarus and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

So much stuff to buy this Christmas.

*rubs hands vigorously*

br3ad_man 12-16-2004 07:51 PM

Blink 182. Go me.

Happymeal 12-16-2004 08:15 PM

br3ad!:) I heavily recommend This Providence to you, if you're in a pop-punky mood. I have an album of theirs, it's wonderful. Listen to 'em sometime.

Give me some song reccomendations please :)

I just picked up "The Essential Bob Dylan", some budget Best Of Frank Sinatra thing that will probably be more like a worst of but meh, it was 3 bucks and a copy of "Pet Sounds" as a christmas present. I'm going to get "Smile" as well and give that and "Pet Sounds" to my parents for christmas.

Happymeal 12-17-2004 06:29 AM

^They're on Purevolume

Tapeworm 12-17-2004 06:35 AM

Morphine - (**** near incredible so far) tangy wins again.
Mothers of Invention

Zappa 12-17-2004 02:53 PM

They just came out with a 3 disc (2 CDs, 1 DVD) set of Mark Sandman stuff he did outside of his work with Morphine. It is hopefully ending up under my Christmas tree.

I saw an old post of yours in a bumped thread recently and began to miss you. Hi again.

Ornery Cephalopod 12-17-2004 03:36 PM

Beulah's When Your Heartstrings Break and The Coast is Never Clear

Mmm... Nothing like some cheery indie-pop with a California vibe to lift your Michigan winter blues.

deadheadonamoped 12-17-2004 03:43 PM

The 80's matchbox b-line disaster-Horse of the dog, The royal society

My ears are craving. Buy it for me Alex, ol' buddy ol' pal!!!

Robert Crumb 12-17-2004 05:24 PM

Sun Ra - The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra. Good introduction to his works and by that I mean it's completely anarchic and jarring.

Happymeal 12-17-2004 05:41 PM

just got Tricky's Maxinquaye. Very good so far. Grace: Legacy Edition tomorrow, thanks to my mad spending skills.

Anyone recommend me an Enon album?

I've only heard High Society, but it's good and seems to be generally regarded as their best.

Tangy zizzle 12-17-2004 06:12 PM

Enon are solid, but Brainiac were better.

Enon are so fun though.

Tangy zizzle 12-17-2004 08:07 PM

Hit up some Calexico today. I always love listening to these guys after not hearing them for like a month, it's so refreshing.

Bartender 12-17-2004 08:15 PM

I actually checked out Gang of Four a little today. It's looking like I'll be searching for my own copy of Entertainment! soon enough.
