Will someone please tell me once and for all, which religion do SOAD practice?
I dont think its reglious. I am pretty sure that if cigaro (the user) is referring to soldier side, that soldier side is about being sent to war.
songs like holy mountain, i remember hearing a few 'jesus' and 'God' in the album |

EG. Piggybacking on the holidays like everyone else :thumb:
 Are you sure though? I've heard from Satanist to Islamic to Christian and everything in between. I just want to understand so I can interpret their songs better. Like, for example, the heavy Bible references in Chop Suey. I don't know the Bible very well, so iou can imagine my surprise (and I consider myself a true Christian) when I watched The Passion Of The Christ for the first time and heard Christ quoting SOAD lyrics while He was hanging on the cross. I was like, "Whoa, my saviour is a metalhead! ROCK ON!" \m/ Only then did I go do some Googling to find out what it's all about, but no-one can reach consensus. I'm confused. I would like to hear a collaboration between SOAD and Muse. /random EDIT:
songs like holy mountain, i remember hearing a few 'jesus' and 'God' in the album
Just because he says "Jesus" doesn't mean it's religious. Take Incubus: "Temporaryism has been the/Black Plague and the/Jesus of our age." It could easily be a metaphor. I wouldn't know, though, I haven't heard Hypnotize yet. |
Holy Mountain is about a mountain(s) on the border of turkey and armenia and both countrys are fighting over who's mountain it is.
Or something along those line :p |
oh like in the trojan wars or whatever when they fought over the ural mountains i think it was. but yea about the religious soad, just because they aknowledge God doesnt really mean their like christians and stuff. i myself am a christian and i know soil when he says "why the fu** did u take him away from us you mother fu**er!" thats supposed to being said to God for his friend dying, or God taking him away. and also on the live version of kill rock n roll, daron says God told him to fu** all the sexy people and God said fu** you to daron so daron said fu** you back. im sure he was just joking but idk. i think they just aknowledge God as being creator and stuff.

Well, as far as I know, the Armenians were an important part of the Catholic Church at one time. I don't really analyze lyrics, but I think most of their use of religious references is just for metaphors or something. |
I just bought Hypnotize...because it was 8.99 at the local Circuit City and it came with a free shirt. haha. Good album, but I realized too late that it wasn't the one with BYOB on it. Ah well. Great stuff either way.
I've been listening to Toxicity a lot actually...I can't get enough of Chop Suey! and Bounce is funny as hell. |

 In as much as they are religious (I have no idea how religious they are) I think they'd most likely be Orthodox Christians or Catholic. I'd pretty much rule out Protestantism, but I amn't sure which of those two.
I would like to hear a collaboration between SOAD and Muse. /random
Sounds good to me:thumb: |
SOAD and Muse? wow! that would be a good idea.
just to see what it would sound like U = Smart |
The whole reason Armenians are being persecuted is because of religion. They're mostly Christian and I'm not sure if SOAD is Christian but they definately are trying to get the Armenian genocide to stop.
|
SOAD are definitely very spiritual (listen to Science) but that doesn't necessarily mean they are religious, as in following any specific faith. The Armenians were the first country to be Christian (this was way before there was even such a thing as Catholicism and the only differences between Christians concerned which Apostle's account of the gospel they followed). I'm sure that's how most of the band members were brought up as kids, but they could have changed by now.
|
I think that Hypnotize is the best album from them since Toxicity, but it still doesn't come close to their self titled debut.
|
Just got Hypnotize...
I put it on iTunes and noticed that "Soldier Side" is now only the one song... 3.40mins long. |
I've been meaning to pick up this cd, but, I haven't had the time.
|
It's kewl how you can join the packets together.
...Because it's all about the packaging...!!!!! |
SOAD are a protest band who are trying to get the people who commited the arminian genocide done, cause stalin and moa had there *** kicked, why not the arminian leader. they also protest against the american government.
|
And...?
People know this stuff dood. |
SOAD are a protest band who are trying to get the people who commited the arminian genocide done, cause stalin and moa had there *** kicked, why not the arminian leader.
Because the Arminian [sic] leader didn't commit the genocide, it was the Ottoman Empire who committed it against the Armenians. Stalin did not have his *** kicked, he lived a long life as leader of the soviet union, which lasted almost forty years after his death. The Moa is (or, rather, was) a flightless New Zealand bird that got its *** kicked by the Maori, who overhunted it and wiped it out. If you meant Mao, he also stayed in power untill he died of natural causes. As I post, China is still a communist dictatorship, although it is opening its economy to some capitalism. No *** kicking is evident. One last thing to note is that the Ottoman Empire is gone and the leaders are all dead. SOAD are trying to get recognition of the genocide from the world, mostly the US (where they live) and Turkey, the country that is now where the Ottoman Empire was. Turkey was been the hub of the empire, like Britain or Rome. SOAD would also like Turkey to apologise. I just got Hypnotize, it's so good... :) |
I remember reading somewhere that Shavo believes in a God (sorry, I can't remember which one) but he says he stoped praying after his grandmother died when he was young.
Also, in the guitar world with Daron on the cover, there is a picture of him sitting in his living room, and his coffee table is filled with candle holders with Jesus and other christian things painted on them. At the same time he has some skulls on the coffee table as well. |
I put it on iTunes and noticed that "Soldier Side" is now only the one song... 3.40mins long.
awesome!

hypnotize is probly my favorite album of all. i mean S/T is great and so is toxicity but ive listened to them so many times i need to take a break from them. and its definitely the better of the double disc cd. i dont think anyone will deny that.
|
"Banana, Banana, Banana, Terracotta, Banana, Terracotta, Terracotta Pie"
System :):):) Well...the other half of Mesmerize...Hypnotize...is really amazing. I love how they can write so many songs...continuosly...and none of them are bad what-so-ever! It's really amazing...and I can't wait till I get to see them live. Pretty sweet how you can put the packages together. Oh...and look at the songs on the albums...see how there all different size? And it seems that the biggest are their "best" and the smallest are their "worst"...has anybody else noticed this? But anyways...keep listening to System...and other various metal's... Cheerio |
Both mezmerize and hypnotize are amazing. All songs are so different and unique. Vicinity of Obscenity certainly kicks ***. So does about 15 other songs on hypnotize/mesmerize. :p
|
Vicinity of Obscenity is up there with Sugar as my favorite "silly" song from SOAD.
|
another silly song is D'devil. thats a classic soad song. i dont like it that much but its funny.
|
"Stupid people do stupid things, smart people outsmart each other" is perhaps one of my alltime favorite lyrics. :p
|
For some songs, it's debatable as to whether or not they're silly. Some hardcore SOAD fans will tell you that everything has a deeper meaning to it, but they're retarded. Goofy words + goofy guitar melodies = a silly song.
Here are the silly songs of theirs that I know of: Self-titled: Sugar Ddevil Peephole Cubert (?) Darts (?) Toxicity: Needles Chop Suey (serious at the end, but wouldn't have been as popular if people didn't see it as a silly song) Bounce Shimmy Steal This Album: Chic N' Stu I-E-A-I-A-I-O 36 Pictures Mezmerize: Cigaro Radio/Video (?) This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song Violent animal photographsography (?) Old School Hollywood Hypnotize: Kill Rock N' Roll Stealing Society (?) Vicinity of Obscenity She's Like Heroin Lonely Day (well it's silly to anyone who listens to the lyrics!) Other: Marmalade ...maybe some others (Storaged?) Anyway, those are the ones I've found. I like some of them but others are just irritating. |
"Stupid people do stupid things, smart people outsmart each other" is perhaps one of my alltime favorite lyrics. :p
Same here. I think it's brilliant! |
YDload, I wouldnt call all of those 'silly' songs, Hell I dont think I'd say half of them was..
