One of my favorite Power Violence bands ever is Surf Nazis Must Die.

RetiredAt21 03-01-2007 06:26 AM
It was alright. Not enough eardrum piercing, glass shattering screams though. I'll wait until it is realeased to say more. Definately do not want to sell them short. Magrudergrind is one of my favorite bands ever.
True, nothing I love more than those eardrum piercing, glass shattering screams.
One of my favorite Power Violence bands ever is Surf Nazis Must Die.
That's just a fast hardcore band, but yeah they are pretty awesome.

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 08:50 AM

Have you heard their demo from when they called themselves Adolf Hitler Klan? It's the only thing they released (on cassette) before disbanding. Only to come back as the Surf Nazis Must Die. I'm not completely sure of the forum rules yet, but if it's allowed, I will upload both of these.

RetiredAt21 03-01-2007 10:46 AM

I don't think I've ever heard anything from Surf Nazis Must Die, so I'd really like to hear it.

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 10:51 AM

Surf Nazis Must Die are alright. They were "Adolf Hitler Klan" pre-Surf Nazis Must Die. As Adolf Hitler Klan they just released that demo cassette. As Surf Nazi's Must Die, I believe they just released one S/T 7". I think they changed their name because "Adolf Hitler Klan" was a pretty senselessly offensive name. Overall, it Adolf Hitler Klan is one of the worst band name i've ever heard. Thank Allah they changed to one of the best band names i've ever heard, "Surf Nazi's Must Die."

Opinion about releases:
Adolf Hitler Klan cassette: An "okay" release, with some highlights, but some real downers. Good songs like "DIY 'Til I Die" provide a nice humorous touch to the release, with some very catchy guitar lines. Pretty good song for :30-ish seconds. Other songs like "Angekotzt" and "All Hail To Ibbenburen" are just great songs. Awesome riffs, and even a nice sing-a-long in "All Hail To Ibbenburen." The other half of the cassette is REALLY boring, and not very good both lyrically or musically. With songs like "Adolf W. Bush" and lyrics like "Kill George W. Bush. He's a f'ucking retarded a'sshole. Give me a gun i'll make him cold. Kill George W. Bush (x4)" -- needless to say... a real downer.

Surf Nazi's Must Die S/T 7": Again, an "okay" release. Overall, kind of boring. There's not a HUGE difference between songs on the release, and the record never feels like it's moving anywhere. Just when I thought it was about to climax, it just repeats the same repetitive stuff. The vocals I do really appriciate though. The angsty/annoying/screeching provides for a nice harsh tone to the record, and makes it seem as if the singer is really passionate and angry in what he's saying. The vocals I did dig, the music though, was kind of slow and boring as stated previously.

In summation, both bands are very mediocre and mainstream. Both of their releases had some ups and downs, but never seemed as if they were going anywhere. Surf Nazis Must Die just recently broke up too, about a few months - to a year ago? Something like that. :thumb:

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 12:05 PM

Do any of you f'ucking crazy trashers living fast dig Threatener? I've been listening to Threatener for some time now, and just recently snagged their demo cassette from a collector. They haven't been discussed here, which is a shame, as they are easily in my top 3 Powerviolence bands list. Here's the megaupload:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3LRSNDP8

I highly recommend you listen to "Human Junk" "Isolation King" "Warpath To Recovery" "Latrine Animal" and "See You In the Hospital" before you listen to anything else in that mix. In that folder are both of their 7"'s -- "The Fastening" and "The Hammering." Threatener is blistering fast drums, insane guitar waling, with f'ucking absolutely killer/catchy riffs. It's easy to see why they are one of the top bands on most people's favorite's list. I've honestly never met a person who dug this style of music say anything negative about Threatener. Sadly, in the spirit of most all legendary/great bands, they broke up shortly after releasing just their second 7".

If you guys haven't heard Threatener before, please download it, and give the recommended songs a listen. I'd really like to discuss some Threatener for a little bit. :thumb:

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 12:50 PM

I'll check out the Threatener when I get home today. As for your reviews of Surf Nazis Must Die and Adolf Hitler Klan, they were actually well thought out and nicely written. Only thing I'm surprised to hear anyone say is that either band was mainstream. Mind elaborating on this a little bit? I'm not trying to pick a fight, just curious.

And I'll up both the AHK Demo and Surf Nazis Must Die Discography (In one file) a little later today.

Ah, mainstream was definately a wrong choice of words there. What I meant by "mainstream" was that they were too basic I think. No real technical work done. In "DIY Til I Die" by AHK, I think it has some tough riffs and such, and sure it's catchy, but other than that, meh, nothing really too technical, or a better way to put it is, there's really nothing on either of their releases that REALLY stands out as a gem. Sure, there's good songs and bad songs, but no songs that are REALLY bad, and no songs that are particularly REALLY good.

As for Threatener, definately, definately check them out. Some very raw stuff, excellent/powerful riffs. Short/Sharp/Fast/cut-throat/and to-the-f'ucking-point is Threatener summed up. If you manage to snag their lyrics somewhere online, they're genius, no joke. The lyrics depict a grim world portrayed by Rod (vocalist). Basically, the lyrics are him venting about what he hates about this world. Broad vocal range -- he touches on everything from Christians, to war, to his dislike of a pop-culture/consumerist society. Truly brilliant work, both lyrically and musically.

RetiredAt21 03-01-2007 01:36 PM

/checks out Threatener

AIRIC 03-01-2007 06:00 PM

Yeah Threatener are sick. I've got both 7"s on the ole putah. As for AHK and SNMD, both bands are mediocre. Very mediocre. SNMD remind me of Skate Korpse though because of the name who are an AMAZING surf influence hardcore punk band.

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 06:04 PM

Checking out Threatener now. Also about to upload AHK and Surf Nazis Must Die.

EDIT: AHK & SNMD http://www.mediafire.com/?an11zmmowjj

And although I know they're not Powerviolence, Betercore should be discussed in this thread, my all time favorite band. I guess they're more "Fast hardcore" though.

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 07:17 PM

Betercore! is excellent, I do really dig them. Their songs are fast, and the combination of vocalists is what really does it for me. They also use some pretty excellent samplings, like the John Wayne sample in the song "Man You Suck!" -- f'ucking perfect, haha. Makes me laugh every time I hear it. Viva La Youthcrust sir!

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 07:18 PM
Yeah Threatener are sick. I've got both 7"s on the ole putah.
Truth, there's not much else you can say about Threatener, except that they're easily a 10/10 band. Really top quality stuff.

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 07:24 PM

I can upload the Discography if anyone wants it. As mentioned before, they are my all time favorite band and I feel everyone should hear them at least once.

Although it's not needed, you can check my last.fm to see what I'm into. If you're up to it, I wouldn't mind getting some recommendations.

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 07:45 PM

Truth, I agree. I too have the discography, and it really is some good stuff. Although Betercore! is far from my best band, they do an excellent job enhancing my playlist/mixes. :thumb:

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 07:47 PM

My computer started sucking before I was able to fix what I had said, my last.fm is http://www.last.fm/user/elliptical_ion

If you get the chance, I'd appreciate recommendations in Powerviolence if you can come up with some based off of what I listen to.

I would say you're into a lot of good stuff, (a plethora of Formaldehyde Junkies/Betercore! sheesh, nice!) until I saw the Minus The Bear on the list. Guilty pleasures? I too am known to have the Shania Twain discography on my computer. :upset: Guilty pleasures!

As far as recommendations, try Threatener/AxRxMx/She's Dead!/XBRAINIAX, they're some more raw powerviolence.
As far as the lighter/thrashier/Betercore!-esque type, try What Happens Next?/ExTxAx/ or Scholastic Deth. Scholastic Deth are f'ucking tight as hell. Sick skate-thrash bands. Let me know if you want anything there, i've got lots of all on my computer.

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 08:00 PM

I love Scholastic Deth and most skate-thrash bands. Uzi Suicide is a nice band out of that "genre".

And I'm absolutely in love with Minus the Bear, while not even close to powerviolence or anything heavy at all, they are quality pop.

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 08:11 PM

Truth, Uzi Suicide is pretty tight. Although, they do get repetitive I think. I can't REALLY get into them, and call them a classic.

Minus The Bear on the other hand... yuck!

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 08:14 PM

To each his own I guess. I feel the same about Shania Twain to be honest. And Have you ever heard Domestik Doktrin?

Aus Rotten 03-01-2007 08:33 PM

No sir, I have not!

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 08:37 PM

I'll upload the album I have, it's quality. They're from Indonesia, and they were on 625 so you know they have to be good.

RetiredAt21 03-01-2007 08:59 PM

Scholastic Deth \m/

Elliptical Ion 03-01-2007 09:01 PM

Yeah, Scholastic Deth is ace. Anyone like or know of Spazm 151? And I'm sorry if asking for albums isn't allowed, but does anyone have Wehrmacth they can upload?

Ah 625 is ace! Max I heard was throwing a Kung-Fu Rick reunion tour. Again, that was a while ago. I don't know what he's really been up to since he moved to Brooklyn.

Ultimate Warriors are sick, I have a comp Songs of the Dead that they are on, they rip it up.

Elliptical Ion 03-02-2007 08:47 AM

Any way I could talk you into uploading that comp? And let me know what you guys thought about Domestik Doktrin.

Aus Rotten 03-02-2007 01:45 PM

Haven't lisnted to Domestik Doktrin yet, haven't really had time to give it a fair listen. From the little i've heard thus far, it seems kind of slow for me. Then again, I think i've listened to maybe 2/3 songs. I'll give it a full-listen tonight, and give my customary review later. If anything, you've reminded me about how f'ucking sick The Ultimate Warriors are, so that's been dominating my playlist now, hah!

Elliptical Ion 03-02-2007 01:49 PM

It took some time for Domestik Doktrin to really grow on me, but ever since it has, it's become a personal favorite.

Times Ten 03-02-2007 03:19 PM

Oh yeah. Threatener is awesome. Blistering speed.

RetiredAt21 03-02-2007 03:21 PM

Darn it all! I really need to hear Threatener.

Elliptical Ion 03-02-2007 06:03 PM

How do you guys Feel about His Hero is Gone? More Thrash like, but worth mentioning.

Domestik Doktrin is a band from Indonesia that was signed to 625 Records (Or more accurately had a release or two on it). 625 was created by Max Ward from Spazz and pretty much has every amazing "Grindcore", "Thrashcore", "fastcore", and "Powerviolence" (I'm using this term very loosely because only a few bands are actually this, but a lot are considered it) band on it. Bands like Jellyroll Rockheads and Godstomper also had releases on this label.

If it's not obvious, this is by far my favorite label.
