So I've downloaded a ton of stuff from the following bands and would just like to know what CD's of theirs to get: Symphony X, Rhapsody, Helloween, Stratovarious, Sonata Arctica, and Haggard.

Symphony X - The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
Stratovarius - Visions

Bartender 01-13-2005 07:55 PM

For Sonata Arctica, I favour Ecliptica. I know there are plenty of people who would recommend Silence or Winterheart's Guild over it though.

Stratovarius..I was recommended Infinite, as their "best" album, but I didn't like it much. Since then I've found I just don't like Stratovarius as a whole much (which is odd, because I love Sonata Arctica, and they're rather similar).

Rhapsody; the standard seems to be Symphony of Enchanted Lands, but don't hold me to my word.

A lot of new bands would list the older bands in their influences section in their album sleeves, so there is no end to bands you could look at.

I would say Porcupine Tree (kinda not that new) and Biffy Clyro were worth looking into though, neither are really metal, but they are good.

What do people think are the best Black Label songs? or Threshold?

RiceMonster 01-14-2005 08:53 PM

I need more atmospheric black metal. Right now I only listen to Summoning. Any one know any other good bands?

viperfg 01-14-2005 08:59 PM

I really wouldn't say Emperor is atmospherical in the sense that Summoning is...

I would say check out Burzum if you have not already.

I don't think you have heard Summoning have ya heh?

Summoning is like Burzum for the most part...

And I never said it wasn't atmospheric, but not the same atmospheric black metal the way Summoning is.

Silenius 01-14-2005 10:04 PM
I don't think you have heard Summoning have ya heh?
I own Minas Morgul.

Edit: And he didn't say atmospheric bands like Summoning.

I've seen you ask this a couple of times now, and you never seem to get responses. I think asking in the Official Iron Maiden thread would work, though.

Eh', ok my bad on that assumption.

I would also assume hes looking for bands like Summoning in that aspect, and also he knows of Emperor since thats his avatar heh.

As time goes on, I find myself getting more and more into alternative. As a guy with previous love affairs to DMB, Coldplay, Radiohead, The Beatles, Sixpence None the Richer, U2, Eric Clapton, and Yes, what are some new bands that you suggest I look into for a serious relationship? Alternative is the recommended recommendation.

mainesnowrider 01-14-2005 10:59 PM

if you enjoy those bands... i suggest...

elliott smith - obvious beatles influences, hauntingly beautiful guitar work

mars volta - your next step from Yes

jimi hendrix - clapton? nah.... here's the true guitar god

that's a start... don't want to overwhelm ya

mainesnowrider 01-14-2005 11:02 PM

where do i go from primus, the mars volta, chili peppers, jimi hendrix, dream theater, and mastodon?

I think you'd have almost infinitely more luck in Alt/Indie, and maybe the Classic Rock thread (19,000 posts, somewhere in this forum, can't miss it).

pmal 01-14-2005 11:14 PM

ive read the first post many times, if you say this to me i suggest you have whoever started the thread reedit the title, it is obviously unclear then.

[edit] and why pms when people just ask for music? are you too cool to suggest other people to music, is it yours, are you too leet to get others into somthing? stop hiding behind your forum name, we all love music, I don't see a problem.

No its very clear, you just can't comprehend it. The purpose of this thread is for people to ASK for suggestions on bands and not have noobs come in and post what they think people want to listen to. I get lots of people into music so maybe you should know your facts before you assume kid.
