I knew you were going to;)

You think you could send me some songs on msn when mine is fucking up? I've only heard the ones they have on myspace and i liked.

Drop The Baby 10-20-2005 04:42 AM

Yeah i'll try, the only problem is a while ago i accidently set my songs so they couldn't be played on other people's computers :(

Might as well give it a go though!

Thursday 20th October- Captain Everything! at the London Underworld

What a f'ucking good day! My bank account has taken a bit of a battering but it sure was worth it. These guys are a really good fun pop-punk band, who play some great high-paced sing along music. This si the seventh time i've seen them and i've enjoyed every time immensly.

First of all me and my brother happened to bump into the band on the street as we were heading to a record store. Had a bit of a chat with them as always and then bumped into them, again in the pub above the venie where we had a quick drink.

On stage they were terrific fun. Mass stage invasions occured throughout, i think i got up there about 4 times and both Jon the bassist and Lewis the guitarist were repetedly held aloft whilst playing! I came away from the show with no voice, a set list and a drum stick which was great.

I also bought a few patches for my jacket, a Filaments t-shirt, a CE poster, got a free CD and pulled a pretty good looking girl.

I was also recognised by the singer of a band called Fireapple Red and had a chat with him which was nice!

Great show, great night, great band.

9.5/10

PS i have got a shocking hangover right now, i feel like sh!t :(

DepthsOfDreams555 10-21-2005 05:58 AM

Is that why it is only a 9.5 instead of a full 10/10 because it seemed pretty 10.10 worthy to me?

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 10-21-2005 06:00 AM

They could've played a fractionally better set list too, but i really am just being over the top fussy. It should really have been a 10/10

DepthsOfDreams555 10-21-2005 06:01 AM

Haha alright well thats understandable.
Strung Out:
Yay. What a fun time this band was. I need more of their CDs I didn't know about 40% of what they played, but since I own most of their recent stuff, that's really cool because it means they were playing their old stuff. The set was lots of fun and most of the crowd was singing along the whole time. There were also several people filming it. It'd be neat if they were filming it for a video of some sort but I doubt it. Jason was literally dripping with sweat 2 songs in. That's how much the band was putting into the show, and it was great. During the show Valiant Thor came back out and danced with Strung Out and on their last song pre-encore Valiant Thor's drummer played with the band for about half a song. It was totally goofy but cool a the same time. It just goes to show what a bunch of great guys Strung Out are. As a bonus, after their encore I got to meet Rob and Jake as they wandered along the barricade. Both totally friendly guys and totally into their fans. When I told Jake what an influence the band was to me as a musician he came right up and hugged me and told me how much it means for them to be sharing their music and stuff, and it was really cool. Totally great guys and they were still hanging out meeting fans when I left. I think that's really cool. Lots of bands get big and forget their fans, but these guys were talking to guys about everything and anything and really loving it. That's so great.
I love these guys live they can really put on a show.

Whopps, forgot to post this:

mewithoutyou:
These guys were good in my opinion, but most of the crowd wasn't too into them. They were pretty high energy though and it was a good show. The "singer" (he mainly talks) came out wearing a mask at first and that caught the attention of the crowd. It was crazy though, last time I saw these guys none of them how beards, and now like half the band did. It was weird. Mostly, actually I think all, new stuff, which isn't bad, but didn't make for much variety. Short set too. The guys are real humble and shy though. The singer basically apologized to the crowd for taking up their time when they were probably there for Coheed, Dredg or Blood Brothers. The crowd yelled back "We love you guys too!" it was really nice and cute. Oh, and for their last song they had a jam session and the bassist from Blood Brothers came out and played sax with them. It was pretty neat. The band is a real tight knit group too, they all hugged after the show and stuff, it was pretty cool.

Dredg:
These guys played a fantastic show and honestly should have been just before Coheed. Of note from the previous times I've seen them was definitely the ending. They got to the end and sort of jammed and went crazy, and threw all their instruments into the drumset and went fucking nuts. No joke. I've never seen the guys get this crazy ever, it was awesome. The crowd also loved it. As I was wearing my Dredg shirt, I got plenty of questions about the band after their performance and hopefully helped the band sell a few CDs based on my recommendations, they deserve it. Definitely better than their ASU set, though I think it was shorter or maybe the same length, not longer. Not as good a set list either, but a better show.

The Blood Brothers:
These guys have gone so far downhill. They played almost exclusively new stuff and frankly their new stuff sucks. They were much much better last time I saw them. They also had a huge period in the middle of their set where they just had the feedback going, and by period I mean at least five minutes. It killed the crowd and from that point on the crowd was much more subdued. They lost all their momentum doing that. The only good songs they played were off the old records, and though some kids were into their new stuff, not enough were to make it fun. I wouldn't pay to see them headlining again which is too bad because last time I saw them they were really good. They played less new stuff then than now, which is weird because the record had just come out back then.

Coheed and Cambria:
If I had missed these guys I wouldn't have known what I missed, but I'm glad I'll never have to find out. These guys rocked. Worth the ticket price by themselves. They played almost the entire new album, plus some stuff from Silent Earth. Nothing from Turbine Blade that I an recall. Despite that, the show is well put together as they bring their own lighting to supplement the venue's, and they have the guillotine off the cover of this album on stage along with several screens showing videos the whole time. Very high tech for what I thought was still a smaller band. They opened with the first three tracks from Apollo in order (the first was a recording of course); their encore was Silent Earth and The Final Cut, with a huge jam session thrown into The Final Cut with some great soloing, Claudio talking into his guitar pickups, behind the head soloing and other fun stuff. Very awesome. Well put together and rehearsed show. Josh's open hand style wowed me as well and now I have a strong desire to learn that myself. Very talented band and they showcase it well live. An interesting side note, there is a third guitarist off stage backing them up most of the show.

DepthsOfDreams555 10-22-2005 03:21 PM

See Claudio didn't do anything cool at my show, no solo's behind his head or anything like that. Ya that third guitarist is a guy thats on tour with them, I'm not sure if he is going to be made a part of the band though.

That sucks, I thought their show was really well put together. But if there was less neat showing off it wouldn't have been as good. I mean it was good, but the little things are what pushes bands past good to great live.

Your not booking them, were going to the box office, i dunno if you are though, i dunno.

DepthsOfDreams555 10-25-2005 04:25 PM

I wish I had a problem with going to too many concerts....I got another Coheed show lined up for I think December 12, the pre-sale hasn't even started yet though. It is an extra date on the tour and its lookin pretty good. They are playing with Fall Out Boy and The All American Rejects.

Mute Print 10-25-2005 04:30 PM

 Woah. Is Coheed and Cambria going to tour with Fall Out Boy and the All American Rejects?

That would be a sick show. I'd rather see that line-up than Dredg, Blood Brothers, and mewithoutYou.

IT MIGHT BE MORE, YOU NEVER KNOW !!

DepthsOfDreams555 10-25-2005 04:46 PM

Ya that lineup I saw them with wasn't very good I don't like mewithoutYou at all. Brian I don't think they are going on tour with them, I think they are playing like 5 shows or something.

Mute Print 10-25-2005 04:48 PM

Oh, that sucks, because that would be an awesome show.

I'm not too excited about seeing mewithoutYou, or Dredg. I'm not much of a mwY fan, and I've seen Dredg before, and found them pretty boring. The Blood Brothers should be fun though.

DepthsOfDreams555 10-25-2005 04:50 PM

Dredg played good music but were really boring and the crowd wasn't into them, the crowd was really into Blood Brothers but I didn't think they played very well, it was still good though. When are you seeing them again?

Mute Print 10-25-2005 04:52 PM

I'm seeing them on November 4th.

There's no question Dredg is talented, and they're cool on CD, I just found their show to be boring. The crowd didn't move at all.

lozz 10-25-2005 04:53 PM

ive seen hardly any bands but hey im 14 so i have time to go yet lol
ive seen him status quo n velvet revolver

DepthsOfDreams555 10-25-2005 05:01 PM

Ya thats how my crowd was except for some people in the pit that were just like head banging im pretty sure just to be funny but i was on the other side of the pit, also like right next to me in the pit during Blood Brothers this stupid girl was like trying to get farther and farther near the front and I was like second row and she had this record and she kept jamming it into my head I was like WTF....did I ever tell you about what happened at Warped Tour? During the Hawthorne Heights set this kid had staples and pins sticking out from his backpack and I was behind him and my stomach was all bloody after the set.

You obviously didn't read my review :-\

TBB were the worst act of the night by far. The crowd wasn't hugely into Dredg, but they got pretty into them by the end and people were nodding along and such. Definitely got a great response. mwy was the only crowd fizzle, but they're so distinct that it's hard to get into them at the show. The first time I saw them I was pretty meh about them, but they were a lot better this time since I knew and liked the music. TBB was awful and killed their crowd mid performance.

Mute Print 10-25-2005 05:06 PM

Heh, I did. My hopes aren't very high for any of the openers to be honest, but I'm most excited about the Blood Brothers, just because they're the band I'm most into out of the three.

But based on what everyone has said, I guess I shouldn't get too excited :-/

DepthsOfDreams555 10-25-2005 05:09 PM

Dredg was worst. Coheed got the second best response only to TBB... where everyone loved them. And MWY was tight, but not many people liked them.

lucstone 10-25-2005 08:32 PM

The most fun I've ever had at a concert was definately Megadeth in Hollywood CA. Machine Head opened. My friends and I were getting punched, kicked, tossed around, squeezed, you name it. Believe me, we did some beating and squeezing ourselves. It was awesome man!!!! It wasn't punk, but it was an awesome concert!!!!

TBB was terrible, you can't say they out performed Coheed.

The Soviettes:
So I was a little wary of the performance these guys would have as I'd heard very mediocre comments about their show. However, their opening song was really catchy and drew me in immediately. I was also wary of a hick band, because we all know women don't belong anywhere near instruments (kidding), however, their best songs were the ones where the guy in the band (drummer) contributed some vocals. He has a real neat voice and I liked it more than the girls, though them all switching off worked well too. In fact, on the compilation I picked up at the show the song by them has the guy singing, and I can say I quite like the song. Too bad it wasn't a more frequent occurence, because I think that's the band's winning formula. Certainly enjoyable though. Oh, the one issue was they literally finished one song, got 4 drum stick clicks, and started the next. They didn't talk to the crowd except when they were leving to say "Thanks, Smoke and Fire are up next." Not conducive to a good crowd response I don't think, especially as an opener.

Smoke or Fire:
I'd heard great things about his band, so I was actually a bit let down by them. I think part of it was I totally wasn't focused during their show and my mind was on other things (yeah, I don't know what was going on there), but there were tons of fans of this band, and I figure they were probably better than I'm giving them credit for. Lots of people there seemed to know all the words and such which is pretty amazig for a non-local second opening band I think. It was pretty good, just not as good as I'd been expecting, oh well. High energy though for sure.

The Epoxies:
By contrast, I'd heard bad things about this band, so I wasn't expecting much. But I can easily say these guys know how to put on a good show. Mind you, the music was so cheesy (especially the keyboard) I didn't enjoy it much at all, but that's not to say they can't perform. They really can. They came out amid tons of fog, with laser beams, strobe lights and other various neat effects. The laser beams on the guitars, and the guitars themselves, were very cool. I need to mount a laser on my guitar haha. Another highlight was the keyboardist busting out a keytar for a song. Oh, and the chick was a good frontwoman too, she was the only performer to come up to the rails and she was always dancing on stage and having a good time.

Against Me!:
Very enjoyable show. No lighting or other effects to drive the show, the whole time the white lights were on the band, and the band drove the show and the songs. Great sing along type songs too, this band really has that down, so it's even more fun because everyone knows the words. These guys are really fun though, they're just up there having a good time, and trying to get everyone else to have a good time too. The jam session (sort of) at the end of Clapping Hands was awesome too, especially as it's my favorite song by them. The drummer was also impressive, 4 piece kit, ride and hats...yet he used it all so effectively it seemed as good as a full kit. Apparently they had an acoustic set somewhere I didn't know about, shoot. Fun time though, assuredly.
