Southern Lord Records has a really good Doom/Stoner lineup. Has anyone heard of Teeth Of Lions Rule the Devine they are a good doom/stoner band with the one of the guitarists from Naplam Death. Ive listened to a couple songs by them and I really like them.

Bartender 03-28-2005 09:56 AM

I've heard of them, I think. Lee Dorrian's involved with them somehow, I think. I haven't heard them though.

SSSnake... 03-28-2005 10:04 AM

Yeah. I know them. Amazing collaboration of Lee Dorian, Greg Anderson, Stephen O'Malley and Justin Greaves. I really recommend 'Rampton' if you like extreme drone and extreme sludge. It's a really dark album, the first song is half an hour, with the first ten mintues dedicated to hypnotic drum patterns over a droning guitar. The last song is a Sunn O))) riff turned into an entirely new song. I got it on cd. One of the best slow heavy albums I've heard in a long long time. Obviously if you like any of the bands those guys are involved with, you'll probably like it anyways.

Bartender 03-28-2005 10:06 AM

Is Stephen O'Malley in High on Fire, or am I really confused?

SSSnake... 03-28-2005 10:12 AM

Stephen's the mastermind behind Sunn O))). He also play's guitar in Khanate, was in Burning Witch and Thorr's Hammer before that. A modern day legend to me.

Lee was in Napalm and Cathedral

Greg, guy that put together Goatsnake. Also plays bass (I think) for Khanate and Sunn O))), and Burning Witch

Justin Greaves was the drummer of Iron Monkey. He's now gone on to be the replacement skinsman for Electric Wizard.

Oh okay. Now I don't know who the guy in High on Fire is though.

SSSnake... 03-28-2005 10:19 AM

Lawlz Bartender. You might be thinking of Mike Pike, who does vocals for High on Fire.

Well last night I saw Reverend Bizarre. This means that I am better than you. And at one point I was going to sound check with them as their drummer had gone awol! Unfortunately he turned up. I was well warmed up to do DoomSower!

RetiredAt21 03-29-2005 12:45 PM

Good bands never play around here. Lancaster sucks.

SSSnake... 03-29-2005 01:30 PM
Good bands never play around here. Lancaster sucks.
my stoner/doom bandmate is from Lancaster. Go up there sometimes to jam. You have a band there?

(he always says about the lack of good gigs there too)

Jondur 04-01-2005 08:04 AM

Well I'm going to be joining the stoner crowds on Sunday. An alldayer with Orange Goblin, Alabama Thunderpussy and loads of others. We'll be the only metal band there! but we're playing early so at least I can avoid most of the boogie-woogie.

Jondur 04-01-2005 09:23 AM

Apparently we've got a guest book now so you can tell us that you love us!

Just heard them on the radio. Awesome epic doom: ISOLE

MindlessPickle 04-03-2005 04:02 PM

Have no idea if this band has already been mentioned but Fu Manchu rocks! They're so god**** great, any other fans of them?

Jondur 04-04-2005 02:49 AM
Just heard them on the radio. Awesome epic doom: ISOLE
Absolutely. They used to be called Forlorn. And they're playing at Doom Shall Rise and I shall be enjoying them very much!

Played a stoner all-dayer yesterday. It was terrible! God I hate stoner. They all sang in American accents despite being from East London or something. Stupid generic riffs and bouncy rhythms. Needless to say we went down badly for being far too METAL! But the songs they played between bands were ace, Solitude Aeturnus, Vitus, Trouble, Celtic Frost etc.

bamboomonkey 04-04-2005 01:05 PM

No one has mentioned Iron Monkey. Though they are more extreme stoner than doom, per se, they are proper top. Listen to them now or be a loser all your life. They're that good.

Shred Danson 04-04-2005 01:09 PM

NP: Clutch-Wishbone

Great stoner rock, Clutch is.

Bumping...

All the doom expired before I could get to it....if someone could reupload or MSN me some that would be great, thanks. :)

Jondur 04-11-2005 03:05 AM

What's your MSN cos I can't be bothered uploading all those songs again - it takes ages and I am supposed to do some work now and again.

Jondur 04-11-2005 07:46 AM

Here's a bit of a gem for you. the band is called Colussus - I don't have any more information except that the singer is one Messiah Marcolin and this is from a rehearsal demo from 1996.

Anyone else who wants to add me to talkabout metal or whatever else can, just explain you're from MX so I don't get all paranoid at weird random people adding me.

I listened to the Gates of Slumber track and really enjoyed it.

Earache 04-11-2005 06:04 PM

After Carcass broke up appearently Bill Steer went on to make the band Firebird, which is a stoner rock band, are Firebird any good, i heard they have alot more in common with Cream than Carcass

PaulRawNerve 04-15-2005 04:33 PM

i totally love doom and sludge, like some stoner stuff although it depends on what the vocals are like..

for sludge - khanate, grief, goatsnake, crowbar (although a bit more metal), electric wizard, red right hand
for doom - bethlehem, sunn o))), early my dying bride, until death overtakes me, beyond, candlemass
stoner - queens of the stone age, kyuss, black sabbath..
nice
