As do many other jobs that dont envolve saying "you want fries with that?".

I'm Sam, and most people know about what i do.

I'm really lucky to be where i am, but i work damn hard to stay there.

I use Yamaha, Brady, Sabian, Ziljdian, Stagg, Pearl, LP, if it makes a nice noise then ill use it.

Im involved with music 7 days a week most of the time, i play drums alot, but dont practice as much as i should, i just love playing with bands.

Ive been with my girlfriend for 2 years now, since yesterday.

I work in halfords- an English shop where we sell mountain bikes and make them etc, i love it, seeing as my other passion is bikes!

Im really extroverted and love attention haha.

I have said "i" way too many times in this thing, i suck at writing these.

Congrats Bro!
Hows the new Brady snare been treating you?

Rich..
That Aussie made guitar is so awsome... any place you know of i could order one?

Vespa 02-27-2005 11:44 AM

The snare is gorgeous, my mates got a craviotto and its got nothing on the Brady

PowerStamp 02-27-2005 03:06 PM

Actually I have never ONCE asked if they want fries with that. I just take their order and leave it at that, letting them order what they want to eat. It goes by quicker and I don't sound like a jackass haha

Vespa 02-27-2005 03:10 PM

Dont sound like a jackass?

Rethink.

PowerStamp 02-27-2005 03:25 PM

hey I just realized it doesn't censor the word "jackass", I spelled it normally haha!

Let's see...currently making $7 an hour, up for a raise sometime next week. All I have to do is say "how can I help you" and "have a nice day" and then basically stand around for the rest of the day.

And your job would be.... ?

Seafroggys 02-27-2005 03:34 PM

I had the greatest job ever.

During October I was helping this one political group that paid us through 'stipends' (or whatever the term is when you get paid for volunteering so its tax-free). We got paid $40 a day while we worked.

We were supposed to put up signs saying "Vote Early" and stuff like that (as Oregon uses a mail-in voting system). Me and my friend spent a week getting names of people to call up and ask to help us (and we got paid for this, during school!). Then we got people, and for the next week we weren't given any assignments, but still got paid!

So literally I made almost $300 for just driving to the headquarters two or three times, waiting around at my school for the guy to show up to pay us, and to ask around at school for people who want to help :D It was so frickenly easy.

That's how I got my Sabian 18" AA Crash

Making, selling and testing bikes with my friends for $10 an hour.

I have a £1000 bike and ride alot, so bikes is kinda 2nd in line in my interests after drumming.

So i do what i love, and get paid $10 an hour for it.

Oh would you look at that.

PowerStamp 02-27-2005 03:37 PM

sounds cool. I don't bike as much as I used to, I used to ride all the time but mine broke and I never got a new one haha
Full time?

I'll be applying at both Argosy Casino and Musicians Friend soon though (MF first of course), both starting at about $10.50

Vespa 02-27-2005 03:41 PM

Nope i dont do full time.

I go to music college full time, and i get paid £10 a week to do that.

Distant Echoes 02-27-2005 04:17 PM

Whats up all?

This stronghold is actually pretty weak compared to the ones in guitar and Rock and Metal...but i guess it just needs to catch on

I have a job at a local golf place, not a course, but they got miniputt, chipnputt, a range, and batting cages. I basically get paid for watching tv and telling people to have a good time, but im unemployed over winter, so im more then broke right now.

Double Bass Jim 02-27-2005 11:23 PM

Sounds like a relaxing job, id be out there workin on my short game all day!

sup :) i'm alvyn frm singapore. 19 this year, about to enlist into the army for 2 yrs compulsory military service as a commando.

apart from drumming, i play waterpolo (2 years) and i swim. i swam competitively for about 4 years before giving it up. i was a shooter for my previous school. shot in the national youth team for 2 yrs from 15 to 16 yrs old.

i've been drumming seriously for around 2 yrs or so, and my major influences are carter beauford and josh freese.

Vespa 02-28-2005 02:30 AM

Commando: Respect.

alvyn 02-28-2005 02:44 AM
Commando: Respect.
haha actually i didn't have a choice. they told me to report for a medical examination + mental stress test. and sent me a letter telling me to report to the commando camp on 7th april. heh.

Caps 02-28-2005 02:45 AM

What's up guys. My name is Darren, I'm new to this board and I'm glad I found it. I'm from Canada, and drumming is a serious passion for me. I've been playing for approx. 16 years. Other than drumming, my other 2 passions would have to be weightlifting and GOLF!!!! I can see that I'm going to meet a lot of interesting people here, and learn a lot on the way. As for gear, I play Taye (studio maple), Paiste (all the way baby), remo and pro-mark. Major influences are Danny Carey, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckyl, Tim Alexander and lately I've really been getting into Will Kennedy. Cheers.

Excellent job. Any job whre you don't have anything to do besides talk to random people and watch tv is good.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 10:06 AM

The best part is
a)i get everything for free, anytime
b)i can literally do anything i want al day, like the driving range or batting cages (free), and nobody cares

$6 and hour isnt much, but its like im getting paid for having a good day

Double Bass Jim 02-28-2005 10:14 AM

Yea no kiddin thats sweet man.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 10:20 AM

Do you Golf Jim?

lunch998 02-28-2005 10:37 AM

I'm trying to get a job at a record store, because I just quit my job at a grocery store.

Double Bass Jim 02-28-2005 10:49 AM
Do you Golf Jim?
Sure do, i've been playing since I was a kid.

When it gets warmer out i'll be on the courses for sure.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 10:55 AM

I will too. My 'rich' uncle bought me the highest line clubs when i went to vegas with him. I posted them in the Golf Gathering in the Sports forum. I cant wait to use em...not to mention they BACKORDERED, so i got two sets!

Ive only been playin for 2 1/2 years (on real courses), but my last score last season was in the low 90s, with low end crap, so im hoping to get below 85 a few times this year, and sell my other clubs for drum/guitar equipment

Double Bass Jim 02-28-2005 11:05 AM

Man thats great, having nice clubs really helps.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 11:15 AM

Yeah, we have a ton of new 9th graders tryin for the team this year...i cant wait to annilate them. Last year, i was put on jv, but moved up to varsity halfway through the year. What do you shoot jim, or whats your handicap? Sometimes all that muscle helps, but too much can get in the way.

On a different note...i dont post here much, but i was thinking of have a temporary thread to reduce all them "whats some good songs i can practice to" threads. If people respond, I could organize all the suggested songs by catagory, skill level, and band name (a-z in each catagory), but Im still debating over the idea, or if its even been done before. When its done, it could be stickied in the Beginner forum so the question stops reoccuring. Does anybody else think this is a good idea, or should i pass it up?

XvintagefadeX 02-28-2005 01:27 PM

it sounds like a good idea to me. it gets annoying when people keep posting the same types of threads and although stickies are kind of a pain, it would be better then having a bunch of those threads. unless the noobs wised up and started posting those3 kinda threads in the beginer section

-Obscurity- 02-28-2005 01:36 PM

I think we also need to make a thread called "Lars/Joey/Travis are the greatest drummers ever!" Anyone who posts in there will be automatically banned. It will be like a rat trap.

TTTSNB 02-28-2005 01:47 PM
I think we also need to make a thread called "Lars/Joey/Travis are the greatest drummers ever!" Anyone who posts in there will be automatically banned. It will be like a rat trap.
I'l do that. Although, wouldn't that mean that the threadstarter would be banned too?

-Obscurity- 02-28-2005 01:54 PM
I'l do that. Although, wouldn't that mean that the threadstarter would be banned too?
Nah, we could make an exception for our "mole" on the inside. I'm pretty sure something like this would need mod approval though.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 01:59 PM

That sound like a good idea too

But if i did my idea, id need somebody here to help me, that listens to modern rock (im into classic rock), so all the catagories are organized and such, and id probably want Jims approval first...

Does anybody here know how the NP deal works...we usually use it in the rock/metal community thread when the conversation gets dull, or whenever we like. Just at the bottom of whatever you post, put what your playing, just for the heck of it. Hell, sometimes it makes a good conversation and keeps the thread alive.

NP: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Astro man

Double Bass Jim 02-28-2005 02:13 PM

Na to be honest im not into those types of singular threads, it's easier for me to answer and handel peoples questions with individual threads. The answers get taken care of fast and prompt without having to surf through 10-20 pages.

I used to have dedicated threads stuck at the top here for media, gear and everything else. It was ok for awhile but alot of people missed pictures and gear help by doing that.

-Obscurity- 02-28-2005 02:16 PM

NP: My boss yelling at me for being on MX instead of working. Seems like they never stop playing that song, it must be a #1 hit or something.

Distant Echoes 02-28-2005 02:23 PM

Alright, well it was worth a try. Im cool with that.

Right now its snowing like a mofo here. I was gonna record some drum samples on my friends ****ty set which i tuned up for him, but i didnt feel like setting up his stuff, so i just ripped some 5 minute solo out before leaving. It was really the only chance i had to play today, so im not really satifsied

spirit 02-28-2005 02:27 PM

I have nothing to contribute, so I'll just do this:

I want a Brady snare drum!!

*cries*

Der Meister 02-28-2005 02:32 PM

Jim, remeber the Ask Jim thread, how fast did that get overloaded?

I did that once, I have my entire kit loaded into Fruity Loops. It's cool for late night ideas and it provides a different perspective on composing music.
