Best Jam Bands:
Phish Grateful Dead MMW String Cheese Spin Doctors Three Apples High Soulive Big Head Todd and the Monsters (bit of a stretch) Robert Randolph and the Family Band Yes (a stretch once again) |
Yes isn't a jam band.
|
i know, it was a major stretch, but close to the edge was definetly on the jam side of their music
|
Yeah, sure a lot of their music is/ :)
|
Yes is Progressive Rock.
|
I would say RX Bandits was almost a jam band live...since they played 5 minute jams leading into each 2 minute song lol...
|
I forgot rusted root!!! how careless of me
|
oh yea, check out the beastie boys "the in sounds from way out!" very much like MMW and extremely jam style, not what you would expect even after reading this
|
I just bought Keller Williams and String Cheese - Breathe
I like his collabos with String Chesse, but I would also suggest his solo albums. Buzz is great and so is Laugh. His newer album Stage has one disc with upbeat live dace-type material and another disc has more laidback venues. Very nice. If you haven't checked these out before, that is. |
Laugh is my favorite by Keller Williams.
|
You can't beat Kidney in a Cooler.
|
You certainly can not.
I actually just reviewed Laugh yesterday if you're interested. |
Nice.
I'll check it out. You inspired me to do "Buzz." |
Sweet :thumb:
I actually haven't heard that one. So I'll look forward to your review. |
So yeah that widespread panic album that badmoon gave me is awesome. Jam bands are growing on me (I already liked Grateful dead and Phish).

Good to hear. I would suggest: American Beauty-Dead Lawn Boy-Phish Billy Breathes-Phish Keller Williams-any CD will do WSPanic-Till the Medicine takes What Cd did he recommend btw? And phishin', my review is up. :thumb: |

I adore it. And i've heard the first half of lawn boy :) I'll definitly check into some Keller Williams though :) |
I gotta say, Widespread Panic - s/t > Til The Medicine Takes.
There are few listenable tracks on TTMT. The keyboard ruins most of them. The Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead The String Cheese Incident - Born on the Wrong Planet Rusted Root - When I Woke Phish - Lawn Boy; Hoist Blues Traveler - s/t; Travelers & Thieves Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite Gov't Mule - The Deep End Vol: 1 There's the basics IMO. |
I'd be proud to send you some of those over AIM.
|
Yeah.
Some parts in TTMT ruin it. Like the techno part into "Dying Man." I don't mind Space Wrangler though. And if you want to get it, Slip Stich and Pass (Phish) gives a pretty broad look at them. I have it on AIM if you want to get it. |
Yeah, "Blue Indian" owns though :thumb:
Space Wrangler's the purest it gets. I gave Rock not Roll that. " |
Frankly I think that Billy Breathes would be a good Phish first album. Though it is much more clean sounding.
A Live one/two, Slip Stitch and Pass, and of course any live albums you can find are the best of course. |
I don't care for Billy Breathes that much. It has only a few songs I really like. One being "Character Zero".
I'd say Hoist, Lawn Boy, Rift for first picks. Or maybe even Farmhouse. |
Actually I was surprised by Undermind. But it would be a bad first pick.
Rift and Lawn Boy definately. And my friend loves Ghost(first Phish album he's heard) so I would suggest that as well. |
Billy Breathes was the album that got me into Phish, but definitely not their best work.
|
I'd agree :)
|
Lawn Boy is awesome. It's on my cds to buy list (which consists of about 200 cds so I guess that's not saying much...).
|
Yes, that was the second album I bought by Phish. I gave it one listen, and just fell in love. "Reba" would have to be the best track though.
|
I like The Grateful Dead, Leftover Salmon, Phish, Cracker, and Jack Johnson. I guess...he's sorta Jam Bandish.
|

Reba, BRTR, and Gin are pretty much classics. Great live too. |
They're all classics.
|
They are all opinions.
I like Split Open and Melt. And have you ever heard the Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday by chance? |
Wasn't that not released?
|
Yeah, but supposedly there are tapes and it circulates around. Or at least did at shows I assume.
|
The story probably. Google search Gamehenge if you already haven't.
I know they commonly perform songs from it. |
Yeah, I know that bit. I just think that somewhere there are tapes with Trey speaking and playing. It's on some Phish-related websites.
