On a side note - My drummer has a Roland V drum setup (cant remember which although I think its the TD10).
At the minute all iv been able to do is record straight from the line out into cubase which comes in as one track of audio data ( very hard to EQ well ). Is the main idea behind recording with these setups to get the midi data from the module and use something like Superior drummer to manipulate the midi data? I'll find out for definate which module he has, but as of yet i havnt been able to figure out how to get seperate tracks in for each drum/cymbal.
The straight-forward, but tedious method would be to record the MIDI output on the take. Then solo the drum parts one at a time and record while playing back the MIDI file for each part. This will result in a new track for each of the parts individually. You may or may not want/need to dissolve the combined MIDI track into individual tracks. Alternatively, you could also take that MIDI file and use it to feed a multiple-output drum VSTi (check out GTG Synths Drum Sampler I or Fretted Synth's SoftDrum for a good free one). |
visciouscycle - Yeah iv got firewire now (ordered a diferent laptop), but i dont think i would be using the multiple inputs right away. I was loking at an FP10, but im unsure if i would use it to its full potential right away. If anyone could suggest a firewire inerface comparable to the Fast Track id be moe than gratefull.
About the V-Drum question - Im gonna try taking the midi out and using BFD through cubase. Also - I have the option of geting a Digitech 2120. How would you guys say it stacks up against the Pod x3? Iv not been able to read up much on the thing as of yet. |
Well if you don't need mic pre's and are just recordings guitar you probably won't need it
I don't use the extra hookups at the back either |
Well its gonna be guitars & bass and the midi from a V-Drum module. Probably do vocals eventually aswell.
|
Anybody in here used a Digitech 2120 or any of the Digitech range of effects processors?

Good head and cab + a 57..can't go wrong :)
Good head and cab + a 57..can't go wrong :)
I think we all wish it was that easy my friend. |
So after reading up some more on the issue, im thinking about getting a Line 6 interface with Pod Farm as opposed to buying a Pod X3. From what iv read the Pod Farm plugin is far more flexible than presets on the Pod and GearBox. And i wont be using the Pod live anyway. Anyone got any advice on this?
|
I use Toneport UX1 with PodFarm (there is now PodFarm2, but I don't really know the perks) and it's decent. Never can quite achieve a tone that I'm happy with every time I plug in, but that's how it goes. I recommend the Solo 100 (Soldano) guitar amp model, maybe dualed with the Citrus (Orange). Probably use the V-30 cab on both, but maybe a little bassier one on the Citrus

I'd agree with this if it weren't for the fact that most of us live in small bedrooms with shitty acoustics and want to be nice to our flat mates :P I mean if it was up to me we'd all have triple rect's and the best mics available...maybe one day! |

no thx on the triple recto, yes plz on a bogner uberschall
no thx on the triple recto, yes plz on a bogner uberschall
I remember seeing Avenged Sevenfold and one of the guitarists had taken out a letter on the front of his Bogner so it said 'Boner'....................i thought it was funny! If i wanted to record a dry signal into cubase using a pod x3 into an FP10 which outs from the pod would i use? And its going into the input section on the back of the Presonus? |
no thx on the triple recto, yes plz on a bogner uberschall
Yes! |
don't hate on mesas, they're amazing heads if you know how to sweet talk the rectifier tubes
|
Elitist guitarists, jebus christ! I'd take anything with a decent brand reputation and full tube.
|
well, just cause it has tubes doesn't mean the circuitry is designed well :) but a mesa... come now, it's an amazing head, that's what i used in those recordings for the chase and what i'm going to be using above having access to ubershall's and diezels etc... when it comes down to it, it's more preference than anything
|
Lol totally. I think if you can't get a good tone out of a decent Mesa it's not the amp's fault...
Are you making a new album with The Chase or a new band? |
For now it's both but if things go well it'll all be for the chase
|
just got my new monitors man they sound nice
|
watchu buy
|
sweet what kind?
|
i got a set of rokit 8s for relatively cheap. i wanted the HS80Ms but didn't want to break the bank for my birthday. even though they're not the worlds best monitors, it's a tremendous change going from computer speakers or pod + headphones
|
Those are pretty big, they'll give you some boom boom
|
monitors are how you get better mixes in general eh?
|
They don't make your mix sound any better directly obviously. But the better the monitors the more detail you can hear in your mix and the less wrong eq you'll be doing for the most part.
Eg: You have pretty bass light speakers, so in all your mixes you add a **** load of bass to compensate. Then you go listen on another system and it's washed out from all the lows/low mids that have been added. Vice versa etc etc. |
where can you get impulse responses from?
