I never understood the fascination of Mogwai either. Never could get into their stuff.

yeah they have 2 songs that are actually cool, and then the rest of them are just dull droning notes played on guitar for full 5 minute songs. it's supposed to be "pretty" and "peaceful", but eugh. just dry. |
Not really. I mean, I can't even think of one song on Rock Action or Young Team for example that is like that.
Live they rule. I've never heard a cooler sound coming from three guitarists than on Helicon. |
Explosions in the Sky has more dynamics, atmosphere, stronger melodies, and everything.
|
EITS and Heroin are the two bands I constantly see you mention. Just an observation.
|
Jaga Jazzist is pretty full too.
I mean, not much atmosphere all the time (at least not in What we must) but pretty good overall sound. |
Check out my review of Mouth of the Architect's split with Kenoma: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review_8488
I've mentioned them once or twice in here, with little response. So go familiarize yourself with them. Kenoma is a brand new band, and they're excellent. |
I've never heard of them :(
|
Are they similar to any band?

I could name off the usual, Pelican, Isis, Explosions in the Sky, but they've got their own sound. |
i have just within the past few days heard of post rock and i downloaded sigur ros's ( )
i cant get enough of it.. its sooo good, perfect music |

i cant get enough of it.. its sooo good, perfect music
that was the album that got me into post rock. beautiful band, Sigur Ros. download "The Earth is Not a Cold, Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky if you have not already. a new fan of post rock, especially a fan of ( ), will undoubtedly enjoy that album. |

me? i mention heroin every once in a while when a debate strikes up from somebody who thinks that Fallout Boy is emo, and i do mention EITS occasionaly, but not too often. maybe you just happen come across those posts more than any of my others. i'd say the bands that i whore the most are Defiance Ohio and Sonic Youth, perhaps. |

I'd say Mono is also a good band for a postrock newcomer. Their albums are stunning, and I haven't even heard their latest, but I've read it's their best and I yearn for it. They're much better than EitS, I think. Their elegiac, calm parts are far more poignant, while they can get as intense as anything I've ever heard.
|
I've heard Mono, and they are excellent. I've still yet to hear anything more intense than We Followed Tigers. But I'm just an enormous fanboy (if I haven't made it obvious).
|
Yes,
Did you receive it?
Yes, I did. Thanks a bunch, this stuff is fantastic. :) |
Can someone upload some Mono? I haven't heard them.
|
I've come to the conclusion that Explosions in the Sky are the most boring post-rock band I have heard so far.
|
Don't Look Back and The Samuel Jackson 5 are my favorites in the genre.
Jaga Jazzist's "What we must" is also a very good album, looking forward to their next album. |

Anyone hear Burton Wagner's stuff. |
I had some songs by him, but i deleted them because i needed space in the hard drive. The songs are very good though.
|
yeah i have his album on my computer.. not a big fan but its well written
|
Fans of Pelican and Isis should really check out Disappearer. I actually consider Disappearer much better than the former.
|
I highly doubt they're better than the kings, Pelican. But I'll give them a shot. Do they have a website with some songs? Myspace or something?
|
Oh band possibly named after a Sonic Youth song.
There's a local post rock band here that seems to be pretty decent: http://www.myspace.com/esskyma |
