its a miracle he didn't ask when is jean gonna buy some roland stuff too

After watching the Mario Theme over and over, I feel inadequate. I've got just the standard MXtabs Tab for it, and I really want to two-handed tap it. I've tried importing the real MIDI file of the theme into Powertab, but it goes too high for Powertab.
Soooo... Does anyone have a transcription or tab for something similar to what Jean plays in the video or better yet... a tab for what he plays in the video for 6 string bass? |
hey guys - haven't forgotten about you.... I'll get back to answering questions in the next day or two. :naughty:
I had it custom made. Wakka-wakka.
If for nothing else, because of that you rock man. I had a Nuclear Rabbit buddy icon for the longest time just because it was cool looking. Who does all the art for the band? |
Hi, I think it's great you've taken time to visit our forum :thumb:
You or your band ever make it down to the east bay or south bay (I see you're in novato)? Ever run into Metallica up there? :p Ever go to Sears Point to watch the racing? I wish I lived a little closer to that track Have you always been a professional musician? What sort of jobs did you do before doing music full time? I'm assuming you're a full time musician here ;)
okay, guys going in for another round... if I'm missing any questions just repost them. Yeah, we play out in the East Bay and the South Bay, but I don't think there's much left in the South Bay after the Cactus Club closed. James lives in Novato and we see him all the time around town (we even have a song about it). When we were kids our drummer would put nuclear rabbit stickers on his car when he was shopping / eating. He even picked a fight with me at Denny's one time (long story - hahaha). As for being a pro musician I have no idea what that means! hahaha. |
jean your "Joust" bass is beautifil and when it is done you will have to send some pics over this way. and while everyone is cray about you pac bass and joust (Dont get me wrong i love them to), but i am also loving your 6string alembic. have you ever used that on any of your work.
The Alembic was used on Intestinal Fortitude. It had frets at the time. |
Wow, you and Michael Manring are actually online simultaneously, how about that!
|
How did you arrange the Mario Theme? Did you use sheet music or tablature or just an insanely good ear?
|
also do u have is there a reason for putting emgs in you alemic. instead of just having alembic pickups. and since you dont have the normal pickups in there. do u have a different pre amp.
I bought it used while we were on tour. It came that way. I had broke the headstock of my 5 (and didn't have a backup) so I bought it at Guitar Center in hopes of returning it 30 days. I liked it so much I kept it. I had 2 hours to adjust from 5 to 6 strings. Yeah! :thumb: |
RIP..
NHØP so deserves to be FA at some point. Especially now that he's no longer among us. Luckily I got to see him before it was too late. ____ So, Jean, you have some pretty interesting lines and riffs going on most of the time in your music. What's your creative work-flow? I mean, do you work from a scale or just messing about by ear. And how do you incorporate your work with the rest of the band. Do you figure out a song sitting and talking about it or do you jam until it just sounds right? Also, Nuclear Rabbit seems to be influenced by tons of things. It sorta reminds me of the Dillinger Escape Plan. But what are your personal favorite bands. Oh, and have you ever thought about experimenting with the fretless bass guitar? Anyhow, it's always a big inspiration seeing players as talented as you get their groove on, so rock on and thanks for coming.
Usually, we make up ****ed up stories and try to write soundtrack music to them.... I don't think scales and stuff really come into the picture since we aren't doing solos etc. As for sounding like Dillenger Escape Plan, we've been playing since the 80's, I think they formed in 97 or something. hahaha. They're new singer (Greg?) sent us an email when we were looking for a singer and said he would love to do it if he wasn't in Dillenger(or was some kid pretending to be the singer of DEP). We've been told we sound like dozens of bands that were formed long after us (system of a down is another one), but that's okay - we're more underground and not on MTV or anything. Geez, the deftones, greenday and papa roach used to open for us! I have a recording of Papa Roach playing (or least trying to play) a Nuclear Rabbit song... hahaha. That wasn't a dig on them, they just half-assed it. Yeah, I have a fretless bass and I have one being built so I dig fretless, but I much prefer fretted. Glad to be here and thanks to you guys for having an interest in my playing! |
Jean, I think everyone would like to know about the near-fight with James Hetfield; I know I would. Do tell! :D
|
Hey Jean;
As a clearly talented bassist, you're ability is no limit to what you can play. Do you ever get the urge to play hideously over complicated bass parts that would detract from the song as a whole? I'm still very much limited by my ability, but I still find myself wanting to play solos all over the place... :upset: Fallen Angel
I'm not really into soloing like the "widdely, widdely, widdely" type stuff - so I guess not. But it's fun to do as a joke sometimes. I want a bass with a whammy bar for that exact reason. |
You're definitely a cool guy, Jean. Here's a very important question:
What is your favorite SNES game? Just curious, of course. :)
Castlevania IV or maybe Zelda Link to the Past. Zombie ate my Neigbhors? Yoshi's Cookie. Man, that's a tough one. A lot harder than those tapping questions. :D |
... I said it before, but I'm not into "bass" players.... I don't read Bass Player magazine and follow bassists. Pretty sad, huh?
So are you saying that you'd rather play guitar and not bass? and by playing the 7+ string basses you secretly pretending to play guitar? lol  Only joking, ive been hooked to your nuclear rabbit stuff, ive downloaded all the mp3's! You remind me of a crazier soad. my question is, Who where you the most proudest to support??
Hmmm... seeing previous post on support/soad. And it's piano, not guitar! :D |
OMFGQWERTY i just saw the video, amazing. when i tap i can't seem to get my left hand to be loud enough.
MY question, probably been asked before, what was your first bass, why did u get into bass? why bass and not piano or guitar?
see post #58. Left hand not loud enough: Tap harder! Practice more. Lower action. Better Bass. In that order. |
Do you agree that making it in the music industry is just Luck? Or do you think that your talent was what has brought you this far?
How far am I? |
Jean to my knowledge you are primarily a tapper, and utilize the extended range basses quite a bit. It seems to me that a stick would suit you very well. Do you own one? What are your opinions on them?
(A robot couldnt have come up with a more soulless post, but Im temporarily lacking in wit, so its the best I can do at the moment) Thanks
Actually, tapping is just a small part of what I do... but two the videos on my site show it so I guess that's what you guys think I do. If you seen me live (with the band) it's maybe 15% tapping. I've always played bass and wanted more notes. I don't think a Stick would do anything for me since I can't play it like a normal bass too (and it's got that whole upside down string thing going on). My witless robotic reply. |
Jean: When will you buy a Wal ;)?
If for nothing else, because of that you rock man. I had a Nuclear Rabbit buddy icon for the longest time just because it was cool looking.
Who does all the art for the band?
A guy named Mark Thompson. He working on a bunch of new drawings now. |
How did you arrange the Mario Theme? Did you use sheet music or tablature or just an insanely good ear?
I listened to the game. It sucks cause if I didn't figure out the notes fast enough I would get killed. |
Jean, I think everyone would like to know about the near-fight with James Hetfield; I know I would. Do tell! :D
He was sitting behind me at Denny's and I kept leaning over and going "Hey are you James Hetfield lead singer for Metallica?". Then he said he was a look alike. After about 5 times his girlfriend starting screaming at him and then he started saying stuff like "Hey shut up and eat your food", then I reminded him that we hadn't ordered yet. Then he started heckling us. I had to tell him to shut up and eat his food. I deserved it though. So no hard feelings. The things you do when you are 16. It's fun to heckle rock stars. Okay, I think I got all the questions. Until next time! |
Have you ever tried the Tetris theme song? I've figured out the main melody, but I can't get the bassline simultaneously because I don't know much tapping. However, I was wondering if you've ever considered arranging it for yourself.

Kahler just came back out. Maybe you could get them to build a custom whammy bar for you? http://www.kahlerusa.com |
