Hey LR, can I ask you something (again)? What happened to the catalog (I think it was an online catalog) that the store you worked in was making? I just remembered about that...

Totally out of topic: I wont buy a fretless soon... I lost $100 :(

LightRaven 07-11-2004 10:41 AM
...So you'd go jam out with the sickies at the hospital and get paid for it?

more like, teaching them to use music as a tool for healing.

Catalog? Well... either you mean the newsletter... which goes out every month, or the website... and I have yet to get to the website to fix it up.

DON'T LOOK AT IT!

Hello LightRaven!

I guess you don't know who the crap I am, but it doesn't matter, cause I remember you and I've always loved your great posts. If there is ever a voting for the best mx:er ever, you will get my vote.

Heck, I'm positive you'll get all our votes.

Let me put it this way: over the years I've been active at more than a dozen different forums and none have been as great, as tidy and as friendly as this bass forum.

They tell me that it's much thanks to you. And I'm bound to believe them, after all I've seen.

Keep up the GREAT work!

Hey LR are you gonna accept my apology?

gaslight 07-11-2004 11:14 AM

^ Everyone in the bass forum <3 LR. Bestest mod ever.

Bass+Fingers+Amp=Groove 07-11-2004 11:22 AM

Hmmm. then she is a super mod...is she the one that would name the new Mod, there has been a debate about that, i have come to the conclusion that the best candidate, is Joe, he is mature and wise, but still a fun guy. Joe for Mod

cAPS_lOCK 07-11-2004 11:25 AM

I second that. Joe for mod!

...on a second thought, let me rephrase that...

Joe and a whole bunch of others just as worthy for mods!

Wintermute 07-11-2004 11:29 AM

Yeah, I did wonder on the futility of that thread. I think MX has to appoint a new mod, but as he/she/they/it can't read all the forums all the time, I guess recomendations of existing mods and supermods will be taken into account heavily...

... I love you Heather!

HaVIC5 07-11-2004 11:31 AM

Instead of bickering over which vet should get modship, we should just entitle that to the first newb that we see.

cAPS_lOCK 07-11-2004 11:33 AM

^^^ I actually thought about that one seriously. It would be cool as an experiment.

But I think many of the possible candidates would be very upset if we just gave away that symbol to a newbie who didn't earn it, and that many of the existing mods would be upset because they wouldn't want to play in the same league as a total stranger. And so on. Conclusion: nah.

gaslight 07-11-2004 11:39 AM

I think there's a chance Adam was joking ;).

I suppose so....

wait.. what did you do that pissed me off

Wintermute 07-11-2004 12:01 PM

I'm starting to think it would have been better if no-one had been told there was an opening for a mod until someone had been appointed. It seems to be generating a lot of bad blood.

gaslight 07-11-2004 12:02 PM

^ There is a fair bit of tension around here lately. Tension makes baby jebus cry.

Radiobass81 07-11-2004 12:03 PM

Meh, now that I think about it, do we really need a new mod? We have LR and Mad Thumbs now, and the bass forum is a pretty respectable and mellow place. There arent as many bad posters as on other forums.

Wintermute 07-11-2004 12:05 PM

Was I just not paying attention, or did all this happen last time round? I seem to remember just waking up one day and Madthumbs was a mod. That was better.

:amaze: 07-11-2004 12:07 PM

I agree. MX and the other mods should have chosen a couple people they thought would be good candidates, then kinda watched their postings for a bit to see if they were worthy, then informed them after they decided they could become one.

In all of actuality, this is the way it works:
Jeremy (MX) is on very little... he's got tons of stuff going on.. as moderators we are his eyes and ears of the forums. When the topic of needing new moderators comes up.. we, as in all the moderators, put our opinions and nominations in.

That is not really to say that a moderator who knows nothing about the bass forum, has much too much weight in saying who should be a new moderator. They certainly have a right to express their opinions.. but in general, when concerning the bass forum, it is me and madthumbs who do the nomination.. and since I have been very fortunate that MX has a great amount of trust in me... it is usually never a problem to get what i want. ( ) That's how whodoo came to be, that's how madthumbs came to be. How I came to be remains a mystery

Anyway... things aren't really moving fast in the new mods department because this time around, we actually need alot of mods all over the place. Me and Troy have dicussed who the nominatees are... so don't worry your pretty little heads over it. If nothing comes of it soon, I'll just force my LR hand and get it over with.

I'm rambling...

That's a really interesting concept, I have never heard of that before.

Wintermute 07-11-2004 12:09 PM

In fairness I know they've been thinking about this one for a lot longer than it's been made public to the forum in general.

gaslight 07-11-2004 12:09 PM

Well, might I break that tension in saying that... the members of mx have no say in who the next mods will be. It is up to the moderators and jeremy... and that's it.

Sounds kinda crappy... but it's the way it works. :-/ Perhaps in order to relieve the forums of the tension of who should be mod... don't even concern yourself with it... because it all of actuality.. you have nothing to do with it... and can't do anything about it.... :-/

Man.. I hate saying **** like that... bursting the whole democratic bubble..

LR

Wintermute 07-11-2004 12:14 PM

To be honest, it's probably better that way. It means that the decision makers are people who have been proven to be responsible and thoughtful rather than just anybody who knows how to make an account.

Of course, most of our regular users are responsible and thoughtful, but there are always idiots around.

Radiobass81 07-11-2004 12:15 PM

^^ Well, we know we dont choose them, we just say our opinions. And I actually think its better that way, because a lot of new people could chose the wrong person without really knowing them that much (just an example).

gaslight 07-11-2004 12:16 PM

Oh I didn't mean about the mods. I'm glad that the members don't choose the mods, democracy is asking for trouble in any situation.

I just mean tension in general between members.

Music therapy?! How awesome is that? I've never even heard of that before. It kind of makes me sad though, because I've always been intresting in psychology, and I just really started getting to music, but I'm almost done my bachelors at my school now :upset:

I really should have picked up bass a lot earlier, maybe I would be here staring at text editors all day :upset:
That's a really interesting concept, I have never heard of that before.

:amaze:
Well, think about it... if you are anything like me... I use writing songs as an emotional healing of sorts. Alot of people used to know.. but perhaps not anymore, that I suffer from severe depression. And one of the very very few.. it only the one.. positive way I deal with it.. is writing music.

Now imagine being able to teach people that. To give them that outlet. So that they don't have to resort to negative coping methods.

Other things about music therapy.. it can be used with autistic children.. you know, the ones who are stuck in their own little world. Studies have found that there are two things that can bring them into the real world: Math and music. I've worked with an autistic child once... and I cannot express the profound feeling I had when I finally was able to get through to that child and bring him into the real world... that he was able to see me, hear me and understand me... recognize me. for them, it's like being stuck in a day dream...

Alzhiemers patients also react to music... and are able to be brought back into the real world through music...

It's a wonderful career.. very fulfilling. I get to do the two things I love absolutely best: Helping people, and teaching/helping people with music.

Man, don't worry about it.

Here's my situation; it's 4 20 am, I woke up at 3 pm today. I'm sitting here drinking tea and eating Coco Pops, without milk. I just have them in a big plastic container. I'm on teh internet and watching old Simpsons tapes.

Laziness = :cool:.

It's the perfect compliment to practice time.

And LR, you sound like you're really enjoying life and music :). That's v cool.
