Hey man, can't be lambasted for having an opinion. That's the way I see it. |
Quick question: How long is the song "pull me under"?
|
8:11
Yes it is supposed to end abruptly like that :P |
8:11
Yes it is supposed to end abruptly like that :P
is it? I was a little bit confused with the ending... |
Hmm, Donati doesn't really own Portnoy. I saw him on the Steve Vai tour and his drum solo was nothing too special. And I'm not neccesarily a Tool fanboy, it's just that Carey uses occultist geometric equations to make his drumbeats, and ends up with these unbelievably complex, mystifying webs of percussive brilliance. Portnoy is just like Niel Peart, except more boringly precise and without the sense of humor or the tact to pull back on the beat. Besides, his bass drums sound like pillows being squashed.
Are you kidding? It's a gimmick to get people talking. I shouldn't even call it a gimmick, just Carey having some fun with us. He does not arrange his patterns by the phases of the four moons, but i can say it'd be fun to make people think so if i were him. |
was the song "home" released on any cd other than a live one?
was the song "home" released on any cd other than a live one?
Its on "Scenes From A Memory" |
Heh, am I the only one here who got into dream theater through Rock Discipline?
(says me eagerly anticipating a RD2) |
is it? I've was a little bit confused with the ending...
Yeah, that has to be the most commonly asked question related to Dream Theater. When I first got it I downloaded it, and I just thought "Oh, another retard on Kazaa has screwed it up" |
scenes from a memory is probly my fav album, followed by images and words, but no matter how many times i try to understand the story line, it's never quite clear. Did "the miricle" kill both victoria and "the sleeper", then plant a fake suicide letter on them? my question really is "explain to story on SFAM?"
|
is it? I've was a little bit confused with the ending...
Yeah it signifies how life can abruptly end. |
My first albums were Images and Words and Awake. Awake still remains to be my fav, though IAW does have Learning to Live on it... I really need 6DOIT. May get it for Christmas and the Budokan Dvd..

lets get some conversation going again. Which MP's drum kit do you prefer between the awake kit, the purple monster and the siamese monster? I love the awake kit.
1)the colors are cool 2)its big without being huge. |

Dude, you're a ****ing fagot. You have no sense of music at all. First of all there is not one thing boring about Dream Theater. Second of all, your name...maynard sucks..?? What the **** are you thinking??? He is one of the best singers out there. When you read this review, get a gun and shoot yourself, because someone with your music sense should die |

thanks :chug: i had always wondered what the hell happened right at the end....... if thats the story, how the hell does metropolis part 1 fit into the whole scheme of things? (apart from the musical ideas that were passed on) |
Here’s my interpretation of metropolis part I. I think this song is a summary of SFAM.
Key:Lyrics Notes The smile of dawn Arrived early May She carried a gift from her home The night shed a tear To tell her of fear And of sorrow and pain She'll never outgrow I think this verse is about the death of Victoria (Death is the first dance, eternal) I was told there's miracle for each day that I try I was told there's a new love that's born for each one that has died I was told there'd be no one to call on when I feel alone and afraid I was told if you dream of the next world You'll find yourself swimming in a lake of fire I think this is Victoria talking/thinking after her breakup with Julian As a child, I thought I could live without pain without sorrow As a man I've found it's all caught up with me I'm asleep yet I'm so afraid I think this is Nicolas talking of his dreams about Victoria (his past life) Somewhere like a scene from a memory There's a picture worth a thousand words Eluding stares from faces before me It hides away and will never be heard of again This is Nicolas talking about is hypnotherapy and how it helped him to see things clearly Deceit is the second without end Sorry, I can’t figure out this line The city's cold blood teaches us to survive Just keep my heart in your eyes and we'll stay alive The third arrives... I think this verse is about love (the third arrives)…. Before the leaves have fallen Before we lock the doors There must be the third and last dance This one will last forever Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles She's taken you to your home I think that here, metropolis = Victoria. This verse summarize “the spirit carries on” It can only take place When the struggle between our children has ended This verse tells us that love can only take place when the fight between Victoria(metropolis), Julian(the sleeper), and Ed (the miracle) has ended. Now the Miracle and the Sleeper know that the third is love Love is the Dance of Eternity I think everybody can understand this verse! Okay, this is MY interpretation of the song. Yet its really complicated and i'm pretty sure I'm wrong in some place. Enjoy! |
Very nice. I'm still trying to completely understand every line of Metropolis part 1 and 2 and how they relate. That helped alot.
thanks2u |
Well, Quebec, your explanation would make sense except for the fact that Part II (SFAM) is a continuation or further rendition of I. So it really doesn't add up the way you put it.
From DTFAQ's:
What is Metroplis Part I Based On? It is based on the story of a telepathically-linked Romulus and Remus from Virgil's "Aeneid". It has no relation to the 1927 movie "Metropolis". Petrucci wrote it as a sort of fantasy epic, inspired by the likes of Yes and Rush. The story itself is original (the twins are named Miracle and Sleeper and do not appear in literature) but the story type was Homeric. It is linked to part 2 (Scenes From A Memory) in that Edward and Julian Baynes are metaphors for Romulus and Remus, and Victoria is a metaphor Rome (or the 'Metropolis'). This is supported by several lyrical lines in SFAM.
|
I hope someone can post the meaning of metropolis Part 1 and 2
it seems really interesting but complicated. |
