hmm well you may say that "hit the lights" and "ride the lightning" solos suck...but just think...those were when metallica just started...you can't expect their initial stuff to be THAT good can you...

To whoever was silly enough to say that Lynyrd Skynyrds 'Freebird' solo is lousy: It may not be very clever or technical, but it's darn good fun.

And I have to agree on Smells like teen spirit. It's not a solo, it's the vocal rhythm/figure on a guitar. Any moron could do that.

yeah guitar world voted 'guitar solo' by poison to be terrible.

I forget who its by, but the guitar player just place one note and changes the distortion.

Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit is at the top.

awesome solos or riffs dont have to to be complicated or intracate in order to absolutly rock, i tabbed the can't stop solo on ten seconds when i was half asleep but it still gets me the chills when i hear frusciante playing it.

I saw a video of them playing it live and god**** it was bad, he tried improvising it and playing it really fast and it was actually painful to listen to, but obviously coz slipknot are such (and i use the term lightly) a *rock hard band* all the fans cheered

Pick any Kerry King solo you want and you could argue its the worst. His solos sound like a monkey playing guitar(sorry to any monkey gutarists i offended).
Also, pretty much all pop-punk have horrible one string solos that last about 5-10 seconds.

I just read something on Limp Bizkit's guitarist auditions that pissed me off.They made all the guitarists play something they themselves made up.It couldnt be copyrighted, it couldnt be a solo, it couldnt some other bands riff or a LB riff....basically it had to be something they made up.They were made to sign a contract stating that Limp Bizkit was able to use their guitar parts for any type of release.They basically stole riffs from everybody that tried out!!!How can someone just **** their own fans over like that?And to top it off, Limp Bizkit hired long time friend Mike Smith for the slot.Making the tryouts pointless.I hope Fred's demise comes very soon.A very violent and painfull demise.

Mustaine wrote a VERY awesome over 2 minute solo on Ride The Lightning. I have no idea where you got that from.

And the worst solo that I had ever heard would for sure be Smells Like Teen Spirit. Even though I enjoy the song...the solo is pure crap.

dude. i personally dont like mustaine. but ride the lightning solo is amazing. metallica started with songs like seek and destroy, also amazing. hit the lights is cool, but still, its amazin. every metallica solo is amazing (solo, this doesn't include st anger ppl)
