yes, black sabbath digitally remastered albums can be bought individually, personally the best one to get is "Master of Reality" their 1971 album (remastered in 1996).

I highly recommend you don't get the 1996 Castle re-masters, in two words:

they're shite.

The band didn't ask them to be re-mastered, it was a record company thing.

Getting the box-set would be a good start, a bit expensive but you get every song from every album.

Even ''Blow on a Jug'' at the end of ''The Writ'' from the Sabotage album.

Blow on a Jug is basicly Ozzy and Bill fooling around in the studio with a piano, its about 32seconds long and is only on the old vinyl pressings, old re-masters and the new box-set editions of Sabotage.

If you have a vinyl copy of Sabotage, at the end of The Writ, turn your volume up loud to hear the short song.

There's a song on SBS featuring an Anvil?

I know too much about Sabbath, i r teh sabbath nerd.

But I'm confused about this anvil thing, care to explain? :)

rising_fury 11-04-2004 03:05 PM

alright, in the september issue of guitar world, tony iommi was on the cover (yeah, i know it was a special duel cover with an alternate of judas priest) and in it tony iommi was talking about sabbath bloody sabbath.

during the recording of sabbath bloody sabbath, bill experimented highly and "highly: ;). one day he brought in a metal bathtub, filled it with water and stuck and anvil in there and smacked the anvil making sounds. and those sounds made it onto the album someplace at bill's demand.

Thats fantastic.

Do you know what songs got the joy of having Bill's anvil added to them?

rising_fury 11-04-2004 03:13 PM

i was asking you that question

Brew 11-04-2004 03:21 PM
i was asking you that question
I see.

/me puts on SBS

Brew 11-04-2004 03:36 PM

I kinda listened to the first few mins of each track on SBS, and at a guess I'd say that ''Looking for Today'' has Bill's crazy anvil playing on it in those few mins.

rising_fury 11-04-2004 03:45 PM

i'm going to have to give sbs a good listenin to soon... but i don't think it's on looking for today, could be wrong

rising_fury 11-04-2004 03:46 PM

although it'd really help if i knew what the hell it actually sounded like

Brew 11-04-2004 03:47 PM

I've only got a vinyl version, so it should be interesting to try and pick out the anvil.

rising_fury 11-04-2004 03:49 PM

i wish i had an anvil and a metal bathtub, i'd experiment :p

Brew 11-04-2004 04:01 PM

I wish I was high.

Have you seen The Black Sabbath story Vol.1? The bit about Tony playing the Flute is great.

IbanezAxer 11-04-2004 07:55 PM

that dvd is great, i like the story about ozzy beating that guy up in the crowd (i think its at the end)

whats the volume 2 dvd like? i was thinking about getting it but it doesnt have ozzy on so i didnt bother

Brew 11-05-2004 02:27 PM

The only times I've seen Vol.2 in the shops, is when I have no money.

But I'm going to get it, I know some stuff about the years of 1979 - 1992 but I'd like to get the DVD for the videos etc...

shadow_stalker 11-05-2004 03:02 PM

im not sure if i want it because i dont like dio and i havnt heared the other singers, well ive heared some guy on the best of black sabbath (its one of the last 3 on disc 2)

Brew 11-05-2004 03:13 PM

I don't have that best of, but at a guess I'd say its either Tony Martin or Glen Hughes.

I like Dio, not only is he a short little dude, but he's got a great voice.

shadow_stalker 11-05-2004 03:26 PM

i dont like dio, probably because he took over from ozzy but to me sabbath will aways be toni iommi, bill ward, geezer butler and ozzy osbourne

woo post 1000!!!

Brew 11-05-2004 03:36 PM

:chug:

Well done.

shadow_stalker 11-05-2004 03:58 PM

thanks

a couple pages back you said that you downloaded some of their songs, what did you use?

Brew 11-05-2004 04:08 PM

Winmx.

I'm using it right now to get some Blind Guardian, the songs I downloaded were:

Born Again
Trashed
Zero the Hero
7th Star

They're all pretty good, with 7th Star being my fav. out of that list.

guitarmh2004 11-05-2004 04:14 PM

Sabbath & Zeppelin do have their similarities and although they came from the same area(Birmingham,England...'cept for Jones & Page) at the same time and Zeppelin definitely came first but the big difference is that Sabbath never ripped off anyone's music ever and Zepp pretty much stole from other musicians left and right.
they do a little bit, but not too much
shadow_stalker 11-05-2004 04:17 PM

**** i tried downloading winmx earlier and it didnt work, oh well

ive decided to stop hating all sabbath singers that arent god (ozzy), what albums would you recommend (not dio albums i still dont like him)

Brew 11-05-2004 04:19 PM

I've heard good thing about Headless Cross and 7th Star.

It'd be better to ask Frail about the non-Ozzy albums, he has them all.

shadow_stalker 11-05-2004 04:21 PM

ok next time i see him i will try to remember to ask, but if the album costs more than £10 then i will get master of reality instead
