because were all talkin about floyd i was wondering what guitar effects were used on another brick in the wall part 2 where gilmore does the a minor pattern in the verse thing and then on the g strumming after that
if anyone knows email me at plasticwaterz@yahoo.com

Riva 10-18-2004 02:35 AM

Not sure, I thought it was just a bit of creative distortion.

Riva 10-18-2004 02:41 AM

The first one is good, but the second one to me is unnecessary, as the first one said all it needed to. Just my opinion though. Don't be sad, Medopalis.

/hugs you round the shoulders.

Chin up, big guy.

Riva 10-18-2004 03:07 AM

Hehe, yeah, the live version off of Delicate Sound Of Thunder does that, and I actually prefer that version.

Kingofdudes 10-18-2004 08:27 AM

Meh, I cant stand the Delicate Sound of Thunder for some reason, Pulse live is much superior IMO.

Woodstock 10-18-2004 09:04 AM

The best part of Shine On You Crazy Diamond is right after that four note guitar riff when the drums kick in. Best buildup ever.
My favorite album of theirs is Animals. I guess it isn't haunting, but its dark, very serious, and the music is amazing. Great lyrics throughout the album, too.
animals is by far my fav album i like the song dogs, theres some meaningful, almost scary lyrics in it, and the guitar is wicked :thumb:

gmoneyguy 10-18-2004 09:48 AM

It is based off of Animal Farm.

Riva 10-18-2004 04:28 PM

Really? What parts relate to what? I thought it was just a stoner trip... :p

thickasabrick 10-18-2004 04:37 PM

how often do you listen to a floyd album?
i only have the records for the wall and dstom, i listen to the wall about once a week cuz its so long, but dsotm is less than 45 minutes so i listen to it usually every day..im kinda addicted to it.

Riva 10-18-2004 04:39 PM

All the time. I usually have music on while I am at home, or in the car, and Pink Floyd are a big part of my rotation.

The entire concept. Animal Farm is a George Orwell book about Communist Russia, which is the basis for the Pigs, Dogs and Sheep. The Pigs are the smartest of the Animals who can seek control over the entire farm (Stalin). The Dogs are the animals who are strong and vicious, but do what the Pigs tell them too in order to gain personall success (The Russian Police force, I forget the name at the moment). The Sheep are the stupid animals that follow whatever the Pigs say because they think whatever the Pigs say is the best. If the sheep ever get out of line, then the Pigs use to Dogs to control the sheep.

If you read the lyrics to Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones) , and Sheep, you can find the relation.
cool didn't think that many people knew :thumb:
Yea, I said that in the Classic Rock Thread.

the mighty zep 10-18-2004 05:22 PM

Thats the fourth of four different concepts ive heardin translation of the Animals albums...im so confused now.

Pretty funny though, most of you probably know this, but during the photo shoot of the Floating pig above the power plant, the pig broke lose and flew around the country side for a little less than a day i think, and when it approached a nearby airport, a pilot radio'd into the control tower reporting a 'flying pink pig' while landing.

And i also tryed that Dark side of Oz deal this weekend, and its pretty crazy. It didnt work halfway through the movie cause it was recorded off TV from 1980 somethin by my parents, so ill need to get the 50th anniversary DVD. But i defintaly wont buy it, i dont even like that movie, but the first hour was pretty sweet with the album. There are alos other ways ive read about, first playing DSOTM 3 times; playing DSOTM, then Animals, then tracks 2-5 of Division Bell; or DSOTM and The Wall disc 1. probably wont try that, but to anyone who does, let me know if it works out any better.

lunch998 10-18-2004 05:26 PM

What other translations of Animals are there? That is the overall point, obviously there are numerous smaller points, such as the different people Waters attacks in "Pigs(Three Different Ones)". Also in Dogs, the "Stone" is Water's sign of depression and negativity which leads to the him writing "The Wall".

I wrote a review on Animals at http://s3.invisionfree.com/music_discussion
I don't know if that link will work but if you go there and then under "CD Reviews" you can find it.

I heard something about how certain The Wall songs blend in with certain WYWH songs. i.e. The end of one blends in to the start of the other. Of the top of my head, though, I can't think of any that might do this. Anyone else heard about this?

Riva 10-19-2004 01:35 AM

Anyone?

Permanent Solution 10-19-2004 01:46 AM

Nope

gmoneyguy 10-19-2004 09:09 AM

Wywh?

Kingofdudes 10-19-2004 09:51 AM

Wish you were here

Jude 10-19-2004 03:20 PM

I don't think Animals is really equivalent to Animal Farm. It's more addressed to British society at the time. Dogs is about the rich and powerful, pigs is about the government, Sheep is about the common people...

I dont even know what your talking about

You mean when you play the wall (disc 1) over WYWH, they would blend or somethin?

if you explain ill try it right now

Maybe it's real, but it sounds like a hoax to me. Like the whole DSOTM/Wizard of Oz synch thing... its only there because people want to believe its there. It really doesn't work that well at all.

DesolationRow 10-19-2004 04:20 PM

I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. I don't have a favorite CD but my favorite songs include Brain Damage, Comfortably Numb, Time, Money, Wish You Were Here, Great Gig in the Sky, Run Like Hell, and Hey You. The last solo in comfortably numb is an amazing piece of music. The bassline to Money is usually stuck in my head all day. Pink Floyd is in the top 3 of my greatest bands ever.

jangus 10-19-2004 04:26 PM
i am a huge pink floyd fan, and The Wall and DSOTM are great, and though it doesnt have very many songs, Wish You Were Here(not just the song, the entire album) was great, the song WYWH is great, along with Welcome to the machine, Have a cigar, and i have never met anyone that didnt like Shine On You Crazy Diamond(dedicated to their first main songwriter, syd barret, who suffered from mental complications after their first album)

overall, Money is great for his awesome tenor sax parts by Dick Parry(i play tenor sax so its a weakness of mine), and WYWH is one of my fav songs ever, but the most haunting lyrics come from "Speak To Me/Breathe"

for long you'll live and high you'll fly, for smiles you'll give and tear's you'll cry, for all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be - Speak To Me/Breathe, Dark Side Of The Moon Album
I love when people try to sound like they know a lot about Pink Floyd, and then spell Barrett wrong (and his mental complications were during and after Piper)
Brain damage has fairly haunting lyrics, talking about insanity and whatnot.

I have been listening to Pink Floyd a lot over the past few months and with every cd I am continually blown away. A truly amazing band. Favourite song at the moment would have to be Dogs, the middle section is just brilliant and the harmonized guitar solos are one of the best. But one song I never see mentioned anywhere is Fearless off Meddle. It would definately have to be one of the best songs off that album apart from the obvious, echoes. anyone else agree?

anyway enough of my rambling its great to see another pink floyd thread, there hasnt been one for a while.
I'll have to disagree. Besides Echoes, I say San Tropez, then One of These Days, then Fearless.

Pink Floyd is my favorite band. I have every album of theirs. My favorite is Meddle or Wish You Were Here. The most haunting lyrics are from Dogs. Roger Waters was a genius.

I really hate Money and Another Brick in the Wall (part 2).
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a chapter from the book A Wind in the Willows. Thats where it comes from.
Thats where the TITLE comes from.

And Rick Wright did some back vocals too. Such as on Echoes.

RedHedFighter666 10-19-2004 04:40 PM
If you hate the Wall so much, then what's up with your Screen name
