When the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you,

The Goo Goo Dolls have such good lyrics. Johnny Rzeznik is an amazing lyricist.

And even though the moment passed me by
I still can't turn away
Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose
Got tossed along the way
And letters that you never meant to send
Get lost or thrown away

And now we're grown up orphans
That never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame
But if you could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I won't tell no one your name

And I won't tell em your name

Scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there
Did you get to be a star
And don't it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are

You grew up way too fast
And now there's nothing to believe
And reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell em your name

I think about you all the time
But I don't need the same
It's lonely where you are come back down
And I won't tell em your name
Blue oyster cult, though im not sure they make sense
Check out Martin Popoff's book 'Blue Oyster Cult: Secrets revealed'. That explains a lot of the lyrics.
And yeah, I gotta agree, the lyrics are great.

'It's the nexus of the crisis, and the origin of the storms.' That is lyrical gold.

Mad_caddies420 10-29-2004 04:29 PM

you're right. it fits with the music and theres an overall message, i just dont think they deserve to be on this thread. it is "fall"

Permanent Solution 10-29-2004 08:42 PM

AFI...read some of their stuff, it is fantastic....this is one of my favorites, it is a poem type thing spoken over a piano piece:

session9 10-29-2004 09:02 PM

Some good 'uns (I wouldn't say anyone's the best, my picks change with my mood):

Jarvis Cocker, Tom Waits, Morrissey, Paul McCartney, Frank Zappa, Frank Black, Pete Townsend, Sting, most of the old Motown "production line" writers, and many more...
Maynard
Cobain
Zach de la Rocha
Ozzy

Thats all i can think of right now
you are such a tool(pun). cobain, zach and ozzy were not really good lyricists. and in reality maynard isnt the best either. you are just following the crowds. follower.

xKONRADx 10-30-2004 12:52 AM

aw, i just read the posts above me now, and it looks like i was following the crowd. ****it.

Jezen 10-30-2004 01:08 AM

Nah I followed the crowds by listening to Tool's music but now after I have actually read through some of the more meaningful songs, such as Opiate or Disgustipated, I will swear by them that Maynard is the best lyricist.
I didn't mention Lateralus or Aenima because to be honest I dont fully understand them yet. Maynard is a genius.

Arm_The_Homeless 10-30-2004 01:28 AM

Maynard James Kenan - most powerful vioce and lyrics I've ever heard and they go through a whole range of tones, moods and emotions.

Zach de la Rocha - best political writer I've ever heard and one of the only ones I've ever heard that seemed to have a clear, reasonable message (anything anarchy doesnt make any sense, even animals dont live in anarchial socities) and some of the most educated lyrics out there. He also has a great vioce.

Billy Corgan - very poetic with some strong emotions, great guitarist too.

Trent Renzor - shattered hope ... stuits me.

John Davis - I can really realate to the loss/questioning of faith in anything, the supressed hate and the culture of the music.

Serj Tankian - best political writer now that Zach de la Rocha is out of a band but the non-political songs get old fast

James Hetfield - great songs about death, insanity, war, and the beliefs that people have imposed on them.

Slipknot has good lyrics too ... sometimes you just gotta hate stuff.

Everything about Nirvana sucks. The lyrics, the chord that Kurt Cobain knows, the bass lines only suck worse because he follows Kurts chord and basic drum beats are pretty sad as well.

Music pretty much died about the turn of the century except any bands that were together before and are still now, although most stuff did suck before 2000, too, but there are a few exceptions.

ROM - motley crew ... are you serious?

And someone should have gotten on Chucky before me for saying Simple Plan ... that is the worst band ever ... you are a fucking moron, unless you're nine, then you still have a small bit of time before your brain has reached the point of no return.

Jezen 10-30-2004 01:33 AM

Good article. Seriously. I agree with everything you said there.

Arm_The_Homeless 10-30-2004 01:41 AM

Konrad if you don't think Maynard is a great lyricist it's more than likely that his lyrics are far beyone your comprehension and if you don't think Zach is either than you're either not a political person, a right wing nut job, or you're not educated enough to know what hes talking about.

Bright Eyes,

I like sunny day real estate for their lyrics.

MisterXIsSilent 10-30-2004 09:55 AM

In my opinon, dashboard confessional, listen to the song Hands Down and Screaming Infidelities they are both great lyrical pieces
