Crash did not deserve best picture, I admire the premise and the boldness of the idea but it came across as idealistic preaching, far too much spoon feeding of the audience.

I am glad PSH won for Capote, he is a great actor and that was a role that in the hands of a lessor actor could easily have come across as a bad impersonation.

Felicity Huffman was robbed of best actress...ffs a women playing a man being a women, how is that not oscar material, and to be beaten by witherspoon in a fairly easy role really sucks.

Metallica has decent guitarists, who have come up with their share of decent riffs and solo's. People do like them for a reason, they're just not everyones cup of tea, and the fans obviously tend to overrate them because they are a damn popular metal band.

This is a pretty interesting spring so far, Tool fans and RHCP fans are waiting for soon to be released albums, and Metallica is in the studio as we speak (who knows how that will turn out). This my freinds is History in the making.

Of course JP can run rings around Metallica technically, as can the rest of DT, but my point with the MOP cover performance is that DT are also indebted somewhat to the style Metallica helped develop (Im not saying they pioneered it, but they were a force in the shaping of metal in the 80s). Now I know DT arent strictly in the same style of metal as metallica were, but they do borrow some elements from that genre.

I heard a similar thing from the guy who does 'Full Metal Racket' on Triple J, and whose name has escaped me for some reason. Andrew...Boag? Something. But he said it was really hard hitting, and much heavier overall thatn Lateralus.

He also said that at the end of the listening, Maynard himself went over to the cd player and took out the cd and pocketed it before anyone else could go near it.

Very protective.

And apparently there is lots of Meshuggah influence, and the drumming is aboslutely spectacular.

I just used Joe and John as an example as an example to show the humongous gap between the elite and Metallica. I could list alot more guitarists that are better thank Kirk and James, but why bother if I can just two of the top and get my point across?

Otherside, while I do mostly agree with you, Metallica are part of a genre of music called heavy metal (Or most of their back catalogue is, anyway). This means that the style of music they play is heavy compared to the rest of music as a whole. This is an accepted fact by the majority of people, and while they may not be heavy within their genre, or compared to other genres; they ARE a heavy band.

(Yeah, I know they're been more specifically thrash, and at other times just hard rock)

Danny already has a massive amount of sounds. His current setup with acoustic drums combined with electronic triggers is great. I'm with you on the epic part, though.

Alot of the rolls including the bass drum sound like regular tom rolls due to a ****ty bass drum.

Because it doesn't actually prove that they are bad.

I never said my standard was better at all. In fact, I wouldn't say there is a "standard" in my opinion. There's certain factors of guitar playing I like to see in my guitar players before I say they are good or bad. James and Kirk have those certain things. I never said they were outstanding, I never said they were necessarily better than anyone else, because those things don't matter. What matters to me is that they can pick up their guitar, write some good lines and play them well.

I'm not going to dismiss them as good players simply because better ones exist.

I bet it will be pretty good actually. They have already said that its going to be more like their older ****. What they need to do if they want to make a good album is go back to getting ****ed up, fighting with each other, and sticking to their own intruments.
