You know, women are actually like extreme metal.

-Both are good if taken in properly.
-It's impossible to decipher what they're saying.
-Both can cause you extreme pain if one is not careful.
-Both attract hordes of men.
-You can control the volume on either one by working the little knobs.

.... Okay I'm gonna get slapped so hard for that last one.
Oh man Steerpike, you totally made my day with that.

*gives high five*
Melodic death and melodic black metal are some of my favorite genres out there, though. Melodic always beats out brutal and raw music in my opinion.

Dissection + Arsis > Darkthrone + Cryptopsy
(Team melodic) (Team brutal)
I'll take melodic anything over raw and brutal, although sometimes I do enjoy some good ballsy brutal metal. I'll take Arsis over avy of the other three, but #2 would be a Dissection/Cryptopsy tie for me.

Crytopsy's guitar parts, while still being very cool, just can't compare to Dissection's riffs IMO.

I don't know, a lot of melodic metal uses the same formulas, patterns and progressions over and over. I find that more brutal metal isn't confined to using any progressions or formulas at all, so it can be more original and interesting. That said, a mix of both pleases me most.

Brutal metal falls victim to repetition and lack of originality much more than melodic metal. I like a mix, such as my precious Arsis.

There are a lot more repetitive brutal bands, but I find that many melodic bands that are regarded as being great aren't too much better or different than every other melodic metal band out there. Whereas brutal metal bands that are regarded as being great are far more interesting than the rest. Arsis are good though, it's just those out of tune guitars! :p

I really don't see why people say that, they all sound fine to me.

James Malone is a songwriting genius.

"Maddening Disdain", anyone?
I'm sorry, Ben, I couldn't resist that one.
I forgive you, Ollie. You and I have shared too many wonderous moments to let a mere joke (I think there was supposed to be humor) ruin what could be a great, meaningful, yet solely heterosexual relationship.

After saying this, I feel the need to listen to manly death metal while having sex with my girlfriend.

What part of the song? I've listened to that one millions of times and it all sounds perfectly fine.

gillygan 03-05-2006 03:38 PM

Im a Limewire noob. After you download something, where does the music go? How do I get it to go into the 'My Music" folder?

At 1:00 for about 30 seconds it's really noticeable, but you can hear it pretty much every time they hold a chord. At 2:14 it's really noticeable as well. It ruins the album for me.

I don't have Limewire anymore, but it can go where ever you want it to.

To change the directory, it should be something like this:

Tools --> Options --> Saving --> Save Folder

Rocket Ride? I listened to the first track so far, and heard Superheroes, and thought they sunk down a bit...

Arsis I can't stand. Get a new vocalist, jerks.

The last few tracks (from catch of the century) are great. The first lot is a little less so.

And you missed the context in which I described it as great :p

Have you heard/got Mandrake by Edguy? I thought it was ok, but then it isn't really my cup of tea.

NP:Julius Reubke - Sonata On The 94th Psalm for Organ

Shattered_Future 03-05-2006 04:01 PM

I never really thought of it that way, but I trust your judgement. :thumb:

Even though it's late, Alex's comment made me smile. Specially the last one. :naughty:

One more thing how metal is like women...the simpler it is, the easier it is for the general public to get into it.

Mandrake is an excellent album. It's not the best power metal I've heard, but it's certainly good in its own right.

thanks mane. Does anyone know where the default place is for where the music goes?

Shattered_Future 03-05-2006 04:03 PM

Follow the steps that I showed you, and it should say. Copy the location (example: C:\My Documents\My Music) and paste that in Windows Explorer.

Lord Abortion 03-05-2006 04:06 PM

Jom, we need to talk.

Lord Abortion 03-05-2006 04:40 PM

Hey Jom, how are you?

Man. What posessed you to listen to that much Incubus?
You go deaf for a week and not notice the aural torture?

TojesDolan 03-05-2006 05:39 PM

meh, Incubus has it's moments.
AFI has it's moments.

*looks at his last.fm*

But Ben Folds Five!

Meh, I guess I listened too much variety this week.
