Pinback - Nautical Antiques

It's okay. Really nothing special. Summer in Abaddon is better.

perriwinkle 02-28-2007 07:45 PM

actually i listen to Pinback a lot and i think the songs on Nautical Antiques are better. they all took longer to sink in for me but i think theres much more substance in all of the tracks in Nautical Antiques than in SUmmer in Abaddon. granted the latter has better production because it was made five years later after the band gained more momentum but i mean come on... listen to Anti Hu again. ****ing amazing song.

i think the Arrive Having Eaten ep beats both

asdf 02-28-2007 07:52 PM

I'm sure I'll give it another try.

American Music Club

Currently digging Patti Smith's Radio Ethiopia. I gave the new Ted Leo a spin. Didn't really hold my attention. Seems like there are some cool songs, but I dunno. Felt the same about Shake the Sheets save for "Me and Mia" which is kinda undeniable. I'm sure dei hates it.

Radio Ethiopia is good stuff, though. The middle ground between Horses and Easter. First side can't match up the the brilliance of the second, though. "Pumping (My Heart)" -> "Distant Fingers" -> "Radio Ethiopia" is such a fantastic little trinity. I really want this album on CD but I think it's oop or something. Gonna listen to Gavin Bryar's Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet.

Matt? 02-28-2007 10:26 PM

yeah already got the american music club goin.

Robert Crumb 02-28-2007 10:40 PM

Maybe some (Smog) or something if you haven't heard his stuff, I dunno.

Matt? 02-28-2007 10:46 PM

maybe i've heard it all

The Antique 02-28-2007 10:56 PM

get Smile From The Streets You Hold by John Frusciante that's depressing as ****.

Robert Crumb 02-28-2007 11:13 PM
maybe i've heard it all
Or maybe at least all that's worth listening to. Listen to their influences. I dunno, a lot of this sadsack shit ain't really my bag.

I was doing the compare to allmusic thing and now all of a sudden, I'm listening to Bone Thugs.

Minimalist electronic-wash from label head of 12K. Pretty great. Just ordered a few other releases from the label, pretty excited to hear them.

Cynic - [I]Focus

To think people made this is just ridiculous. It is so out of control how talented the members of this band were.
