It's also funny that I'm gonna ban you.

Exactly what I was thinking.. :D

If you like Strip the soul, there's a great chance of you loving Russia on Ice
YSI of it here: http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=28OSHS83T8XEP02U9TNHS35X4F

There's tonnes of other great dark PT songs if you enjoy this.. Half of their stuff is really gloomy, while the other half is more light and poppy

From what i've read, we've shown a person who really doesnt like Tool that we're not mad fanboys, and its the n00bs that give us the bad reputation.

/steals PT download

Yay to Russia on Ice! My favorite PT song. I don't listen to it too often so it stays great and it's a treat to listen to.

To add something to this useless post, is there anyone else really digging the new Opeth album? I can safely say this is some of their best material I've ever heard.

Yeah, you've all surprised me. <3

The fanboys only seem to show up when Tool is in some kind of poll.

Adam Jones is GOD 08-30-2005 05:09 PM

Its due to the large number of lurkers who love to click pretty buttons and make the only band they've heard win a poll. Then they tell their friends, and they all start signing up.

Thats my theory anyway

Some of the clean mellow sections are the best they've done, but this one is taking some listening compared to the others. It seems like something ill grow to love more, as there are bits I picked out first listen that struck me

Kage 08-30-2005 05:11 PM

The first song completely blew me away. Also, Harlequin forest is an amazing song. I was afraid that the use of full-time keyboards would be overdone and sound waterd-down, but, aside from slight overuse on The Grand Conjuration, it's not overdone at all. It adds some great ambience to it. I also love the theme/concept of the album. It's very haunting. The artwork is brilliant.

Adam Jones is GOD 08-30-2005 05:14 PM

I was listening it with the mindset of how these songs would work live, in excitement of next week (seeing them in London next week :) ). But I agree the keys add well instead of over-doing it

I've not voted for Tool in this poll at all yet, and I only did once in the albums poll (I think)

denboy 08-30-2005 05:17 PM

Even though I haven't listened to it for weeks, I still think the new opeth album is one of their best, and in fact, at the moment I'd say it is their best... The vocal work is absolutely stunning, I was so suprised that Mikaels voice actually could be more beautiful than it was on Damnation and Blackwater park.. And that his growls could be more evil than on Deliverance

Futuro 08-30-2005 05:21 PM

Opeth would be better if they had a Kazoo player to lighten up there heavy parts

/cant get into them because the death growl always sounds like he is saying "YOU TOOK MY MEAT LOAF!"

Killtacular 08-30-2005 05:22 PM

'Tis pretty good, though as of now, I don't think it's their best. Better than Blackwater Park? Maybe, though I'm still undecided. Can't top Still Life.

Agreed 100%.

His voice is just amazing. I was listening to it with a friend who'd never heard Opeth, and he was just stunned. He's a singer, and he was floored by Mikeal's singing/screaming abilities. BWP is/was my favorite, but this is almost topping it.

BlindWriting 08-30-2005 06:07 PM

I definitely want to pick up the new Opeth album. Blackwater Park is amazing, and after hearing Demon of the Fall, I'm dying to pick up My Arms, Your Hearse.
Why does everyone forget that I'm a mod as well. :( Longer than any Rock and Metal mod as well.
Ah. Sorry dude. Thanks for doing the deed, though.

Endless Obsession 08-30-2005 09:10 PM

Hey. Im just starting to really get into Tool and I already have Lateralus, and Ænima. I was just wondering if someone could do me a HUGE favor and upload Undertow for me that would be GREATLY appreciated.

Neurotoxin - Thanks man. If I had rep I would give you a lot because you have Uploaded so much for everyone around here.

Darkness 08-30-2005 09:45 PM

I know I'm really late and stuff, (was out buying new Opeth and listening and hanging with this girl...nevermind) but Superpeer dude... have you given any other albums a listen? I don't think you would like Lateralus (which happens to be my favorite :p) but what about Undertow? It has harsher vocals (to an extent) and shorter songs. If you want, I could get you a track or two?

Edit: just noticed someone else is uploading Undertow... listen to it Superpeer.

Petary791 08-30-2005 09:50 PM

I could have sex with the bass tone on Undertow.

I know you guys wanted to hear that.

I did.

Well not really, but I don't think Paul gets enough credit. Its always like "Paul was good, but Justin is much much much better!!!". I like Paul.

deathmetal 08-30-2005 10:13 PM
Well, I didn't like it. The album started off pretty good, Stinkfist is an okay song, apart from the vocals, that's something that annoyed me throughout the entire album, the vocals are so bland, whiny even. I don't really know why you call them progressive, especially with maynard's vocals, they sounds like another post-grungy nu-metal band, I'm not saying that to piss you guys off. Well, maybe a little.

But seriously, they do sound like a lot of those bands, I forget all their names, the ones who have videos on Launch, only Tool's songs are longer. All of the songs just go on and on, with the exception of Stinkfist, which is about the right length.

The album wasn't particularly terrible or anything, but the fact that it was so long, I mean 9 minutes or even 13 minutes for a song that barely even shows a lot of change. Sure, there were some moments where I would think 'Hmm, nice riff' or sometimes I would enjoy part of the song. The drums were pretty nice, I guess.

Best songs : Stinkfist and especially Intermission, at least that song had some energy.

That reminds me, what's with all the useless tracks? They only add to the boredom.

Overall, I would give it a 2/5 or so, maybe 1.5/5 for beign so damn long.

RUN!
The songs are long, and there are some useless tracks, but above all they're pretty good. At least their lyrics mean something, and you have to actually listen to the music to get the meaning or whatever. It's not just some useless "I f*cking hate you" bs, but thats my own opinion

Kosmos Tree 08-31-2005 03:16 AM

I needed over one year to get into Laterlaus, i even disliked it after i heard it the first time. Today Tool is my favourite band, so you should give them another listening, maybe it'll also grow on you.

horseypie 08-31-2005 03:54 AM

tool are a band which grow on you, i know lateralus took me fookin ages to get into, now i loves it

unless you start with opiate, which is a kick-*** album, but unfortunately it isnt proggy tool, just pissed-off angry tool.....with paul

Alright, I'll listen to that album. :p

clearvision 08-31-2005 07:14 AM

See, you can't get enough of tool!

superpeer 08-31-2005 07:21 AM

Haha, I do remember hearing a song from that album and thinking it was okay. So who knows? ;)

clearvision 08-31-2005 07:23 AM

It was Sober, I remember you saying (i think). Yeah it is a top song, there are a few others, Intolerance, Flood and undertow.

And 4 degrees before AJIG shoots me in my fucking head!
