From what the reviews I read on M-A suggest, Serenades is more messy/amateur and a lot of them regard Enigma as the band's masterpiece. As I said, I haven't heard Serenades, so I couldn't compare the albums, but Enigma very much fits into the early-Peaceville-three framework as far as I'm concerned.
The review for Enigma on our reviews site is a lot more critical of it, but again, I haven't heard it so I can't say much.

Oh, like the avatar, watched Escape From New York for the first time about a week ago.

rasputin 11-25-2008 09:08 PM

Yeah, Snake Plisskin rules. Watch Escape from LA as well, if you haven't already.

Take your time with this one.

RetiredAt21 11-25-2008 09:12 PM

Uhh, isn't it Escape from NY?

rasputin 11-25-2008 10:53 PM

Yes, and there is an Escape from LA as well, get educated man.

My flatmate has Crestfallen/Pentecost III on him, I should really give them a listen soon.
Serenade and the EPs are where it's at with 'Nathema. The Silent Enigma is good and contains their big hit "A Dying Wish" but the first album has much more atmosphere in my opinion.

RetiredAt21 11-26-2008 06:37 AM

Listening to The Dead Shall Inherit right now. So good.

masscows 11-26-2008 09:22 AM

solid album, not the top of the genre by any means though

RetiredAt21 11-26-2008 11:25 AM

I think it'd be in my top 10.

masscows 11-26-2008 12:02 PM

You heard Morpheus Descends dude? they're in the same vein as Suffocation, Baphomet, early Incantation etc. If you haven't you should get Ritual of Infinity, it ****ing rules.

np: Hellwitch - Syzygial Miscreancy

This is pretty incredible. Technical death/thrash in the vein of Piece of Time-era Atheist but I'd say it's more aggressive and incendiary. Awesome, awesome stuff. The acoustic break during Mordirivial Dissemination is incredible, if only for the bass.

Txus 11-27-2008 05:57 AM

you didn't like portal, tyler? wtf?

Tyler 11-27-2008 03:41 PM

not really no, on one listen it reminded me of deathspell omega recorded underwater.

heard of that too but never heard. cheesy space art if i'm remembering right.
/goes to MA
yep.
you didn't like portal
they do kinda suck (the AUS one and the US one)
the curator brings lulz occasionally although i do sort of like his vocals

Tyler 11-27-2008 10:19 PM

You shuold definitely check the Hellwitch album out, it's awesome. And short, which is a plus. It's a 25 minute "full length".

witchxrapist 11-27-2008 10:20 PM

shorter albums are usually less watered down, js

Tyler 11-27-2008 10:21 PM

It's just to the point. There's a stupid spacey intro but other than that it's concise and awesome.

Deth 11-27-2008 10:27 PM

Just listened to it today and it's a very good album.

Plus they get points for the name Hellwitch and being from Ft. Lauderdale, which is like 8 miles from me.

witchxrapist 11-27-2008 10:29 PM

my best friend (until i was like 15) moved to ft. lauderdale for 2 years, then he moved back to pa during our junior year and he turned into a total guido, he totally denied me a chance to play him in beerball at this one party, dick.

Deth 11-27-2008 10:35 PM

It's an extremely fruity city.

i'm going to make it a priority along with the baphomet and morpheus descends albums.

adb 11-27-2008 10:43 PM

I listened to Hellwitch last night, can't remember the last time I cringed more at vox

oh wait, I can - Protest the Hero (not saying they sound similar in any way)

yeah but you have god awful taste in everything, the vocals are fine and nice completely original stab at protest. they're the only band i listen to and you not liking Rody's polarizing voice is something I obviously take completely personal!

adb 11-27-2008 10:58 PM

bu bu we have a medium compatability rating on lastfm

Tyler 11-27-2008 11:01 PM

I really dont see the big deal with Hellwitch's vocals. They fit the style perfectly. They're far from above average but they're totally cool. Not enough pig squeals for you I guess. They're a lot like Kelly Shaefer's vocals, which is good enough for me.

adb 11-27-2008 11:04 PM

I totally dig pig squeals brah
but yeah they're really grating.
