What for?

Jev 03-04-2006 05:59 AM

Man... I feel dead. I slept for 11 hours but I'm still tired and my back kills. and I have band practice :(

Did anyone in england see the 7 stupidest things to escape from. He's pretty crap at escaping, I must say.

Bartender 03-04-2006 06:27 AM

I saw it, or at least had it on in the background. He's better at escaping than I am, at least. And the dog one looked really painful.

I know how that is. I have an English coursework to redraught, a maths coursework to finish and a science coursework I've hardly started and I have to do my English creative writing which I hate. Oh and I have to prepare a poetry presentation for English aswell; English pisses me off in a big way.

Right. Can't wait to start A levels. Having myself spread over all these subjects some of which I find really dull is just a pain.

I loved both GCSE and A-level years. Didn't necessarily love the subjects, but that's not the point.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-04-2006 08:06 AM

Are these like the end of high-school year or something?

Mazeppa 03-04-2006 08:08 AM

Well I'm making it sound worse then it is really. The only subject that really tires me out is English and not because I can't do it, I just find it...tiresome.

NP:Edvard Grieg - Sonata, Op.7 - I. Allegro moderato

Oh and by the way Bart', was that Prokofiev I sent you the right thing?
Are these like the end of high-school year or something?
GCSE is a general certificate of secondary education, which you take after a couple of years on your chosen subjects at the end of year 11 (you start secondary education in year 7, aged roughly 11). A-level is then optional further schooling for years 12 and 13.

So, yeah.

Haven't checked my email recently to know; will do so now.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-04-2006 08:10 AM

Ah ok.

I did finished Year 12 last year. That's as far as the Australian system goes, then it's Uni or something similar.

i'm having to re-draft my A-level French coursework at the moment, write my 2 speaking test things, plan another french coursework, and finish this geography. thankfully, physics doesn't have any coursework as such, just a planning exercise.

Yeah, there can be quite a bit of variation, with different styles of qualifications and stuff. I was just listing the route I took, which seems (to me, quite naturally) to be the most frequent one.

metal_guitar - how many GCSEs are you taking? I know some schools have their pupils take ridiculous numbers.

At the moment I'm looking at my A level choices. I'm thinking of doing Maths, History of Art and Biology. I'm deciding if I should add Chemistry to the list aswell.

A cousin of mine did fourteen :-/ I have no idea why.

Gmail seems to be dead, so I can't check that email yet. I'll let you know when I have, though.

I moved from Norway right before I would have to start GCSE.

Ad Absurdum 03-04-2006 10:55 AM

While we talk about exams, maybe someone could help me out. I'm applying for a scholarship at summer school at some unis this summer and I need to know how the English system is roughly equivalent to the Scottish one. Is GCSE the rough equivalent of a Scottish Standard grade (which is usually taken at 16)? Also, what is the more advanced course out of AS and A2? What course would you go on to study after GCSE, assuming they are the equivalent of the Scottish standard grade? Finally, what age would year 12 be?

Bartender 03-04-2006 11:03 AM

I've always been confused about the relation to the Scottish system, but yes, I think GCSE is equivalent to the standard grade, also taken around age 16. AS is the lower level of the A-levels, A2 is the higher. After GCSEs, assuming you carry on with 'regular' school and don't go off to do a GNVQ in electronics or something, you move onto A-levels.

Year 11 is the GCSE year (ostensibly; higher level maths classes sometimes take the Statistics GCSE in year 10), so year 12 is the year right after that. So 16/17, in year 12. To hopefully help give context, Year 12 is also the first year of A-level study, so it's the year you'd do the AS level.

Does that make sense? :-/

However, there's a new system being introduced in Scotland that's going to complicate things even more. It looks like I'll get into this thing though, they're looking for A*s in five subjects and I think I got the equivalent in eight, and the right age and I'm studying the right subjects at the equivalent of A2 level.

Steerpike 03-04-2006 11:18 AM

Last night I went bowling with my friends. It was... interesting. I haven't bowled in almost 4 years.

Anyway, since it was a Friday, all the regular lanes were occupied, we ended up playing "duckpins." A Maryland thing, I guess. Basically, the pins are about 7" tall and the ball is about 2 pounds. What the hell?

And the lanes next to us were all drunken rednecks. The music was blasting near the threshold of pain. There was a white guy with corn rows whom I couldn't tell if he was drunk or high. There was a girl there who insisted on dancing to the music every time she went up the lane, despite the fact that she was bigger around than she was tall. My fuckin' eyes. :upset:

And twice they played that god damn "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" song. I hate, hate, hate that song!

After the first round, the three of us gave up on scoring and started heckling each other. By the time it was over I was deaf in one ear and my voice was hoarse, but we were laughing despite it. Figured we might as well make the most of the situation.

We'll make sure the next come back it isn't a weekend.

Josh 03-04-2006 11:20 AM

wow, i finally finished my coursework :) i managed to put in an extra 4 pages as well, so that helps. such a good feeling to have it all done, finally.

Sounds like a fun time, all three of you who had adventures last night.

And well done Josh on finishing that bitchspawn coursework.

I found out I'm on holiday from work for a week now, but today there was gay, I got the closest I have ever got to saying shut the fuck up to a cutomer, who happened to be a 6 year old girl, who was crying, in between asking where the youghurts were.

It was just this guy, thought up seven different situations to escape from, had his dad assist him in being put into the situations, and afterwards gave them ratings out of ten for Pain, Danger and Stupidity, ranking them from the total out of 30.
