Stoic 07-26-2005 08:23 AM

a spammer :D. He posted a lot of silly spam threads mostly insulting Steerpike and Superpeer. So how are you feeling now that you're back?

Hey guys, I usually don't venture in this thread but I need some help. I was wanting to start in on this weekly thread deal (you know what that means, Free Uploads :D ), in an attempt to become more active in MX, and also to pay tribute to some of my favorite bands. Unfortunatley for me, I don't have the ability to come up with catchy slogans. So if someone could help me come up with a thread name, that would be great.

And also i've narrowed down what the first band should be down to 5 choices.
At The Gates
Death
Mastodon
In Flames
Deftones
Any sugguestions as to which artist it should be on would greatly help me out too. Thanks and credit goes to anyone who can help me out.

Woodstock 07-26-2005 08:58 AM

They had some awesome camera shots.

Permanent Solution 07-26-2005 09:04 AM

Woodstock: They did indeed. Especially the ones down the side of the tank.

Don't worry about a catchy logan, I sure didn't. If it's about a good band and is a good thread it'll get attention regardless.

I don't have a suggestion because i'm not sure which of those bands is lesser known. Doing more obscure bands prevents over discussion.

Oh ok, i'll try to go for some more obscure bands. I'll let you know when I decide what band to do.

clearvision 07-26-2005 09:11 AM

Hmm these threads are getting slightly repetitive, no?

Full credit to the creator if the band is obscure like 'Ozric Tentacles'. But is there really much point in doing a thread on the deftones? Most people have heard them/heard of them, they are quite a mainstream band (i say most because MXican thought someone was talking about the datsuns when they were mentioned.)

Maybe we should look outside R&M if we want to do these threads, try and get something going where we look at really obscure bands that fuse rock/metal with other genres, take alec empire for instance, he fuses dance/industrial stuff with metal. Have people heard of him? Probably not, so it would be good to educate people. I just have the feeling that sometime soon someone will do a thread on metallica or slipknot :(

I understand now that making a thread on the Deftones would be very pointless which is why for my first thread I have decided to do one on Insomnium, a melodic death metal band. I'm sure plenty of people on here have not heard of them, and if they have, then they aren't talked about enough. I'll have it up sometime tomorrow or Thursday.

Arucard 07-26-2005 09:22 AM

Thats why i don't do my threads anymore. I don't see how Soundgarden are 'unsung heroes,' they are one of the most mainstream and well known bands of the 90's.

I agree that there's no point in starting series to promote already well known bands but it's not necessary to look outside R&M either. There are a lot of excellent underground acts waiting to be recognized, so series covering them certainly have a point. NJMetalMeister does so :)

I miss read the thread, big fucking deal. No need to constantly be a prick about it.

Permanent Solution 07-26-2005 09:28 AM

Mine wasn't about an unknown band, but no one talks about Alice in Chains here, so I thought it was valid. I'm a Dredg fanboy so that one's iffy, but oh well. My next one i plan to be something more obscure or, again, something not getting a lot of discussion.

Plus, it's all about education, and barring the really mainstream acts, I can always appreciate some education, I don't know it all before then.

clearvision 07-26-2005 09:29 AM

Yeah it's just becoming a trend though that everyone wants in on. It worked well with the FA, though some of the bands were pretty mainstream.

I think it would be cool to look outside R+M, but we have other forums for that. Many people may appreciate an insight into Bjork, and I don't think i listen to any 'punk' bands so y'know, it could help out.

Permanent Solution 07-26-2005 09:32 AM

I think the featured genres are better for that, because you can do one like mine, where I did pop-punk, and give a lot of insight into a style of music people here might not appreciate too much.

Arucard 07-26-2005 09:33 AM

Maybe you should have checked out the three threads i made on punk and punk bands then. I did one on 88 Fingers Louie, a massive Punk Education thread and a Filaments one.

I will do another punk one if people won't just ignore it.

Do you have any good Indie mp3s?

Uploading takes forever on my PC :-/

Permanent Solution 07-26-2005 10:04 AM

Tough call. More in pop-punk right now, but probably here more overall. I'm more knowledgeable about this style of music, though I'm always expanding and learning. Just got into Alkaline Trio the other day :)

I just noticed I missed my 14k post :-\
That would be cool.

I do on my laptop, but I won't have access to the internet with my laptop until I'm at school.

I have lots of indie music on the laptop actually, depending on what kind you wanted, and when I'm at school I'll have super high speed internet too, if you wanted to wait like a month to put it up, though we could begin work earlier on it to make it really comprehensive.

Angry Balled Fists! 07-26-2005 10:07 AM

I can't believe you only just got into them, they have been one of my favourite bands for the last 6 months.

Do you have Good Mourning ?

We should probably try and find songs that have rock/metal elements in them, so that people don't just shrug them off.

Well my gf is trying to get me into them since we're going to the concert together THursday. Basically I want to go for Rise Against, and she wants to go for Alk3, so we're introducing each other to the other band. SO she made me a CD mix, but it's comprised mostly of Goddamnit and Good Mourning. :)
That would be cool.

Yeah, a lot of indie I listen to is pretty rock oriented, so I know some good ones. Kashmir's a great one off the top of my head.

Cool, i don't liek Goddnamit much at all, but GM is my faovurite.

Best songs :

All on black

Every thug needs a lady

I know more R&M than Indie, so hopefully that will help you.
