I've been practising it for 3 years.. It's only lately that I've been getting anything usefull out of it... Now if only I had the discipline to practise my technique, I'd be all set! hehe
i suck at putting ideas in my head to the guitar :upset:
yeah, i have the same problem. i have some really great ideas, but i can't realize them on the guitar; therefore i stopped. now i playing only, but don't write. |
Ok, I finished downloading Ænima. I'll listen to it now, or try to at least.
Did any of you notice how allmusic lowered their rating of that album?
well, tool is very over rated. so over the years there album ratings will fall, if you want a really meaningful song by them download "L.A.M.C" its an amazing song.....ehm (TOOL sucks by the way) :) i wonder how many songs will be on the live DVD they are releasing. same question new cd. |
Good, I'm glad they ain't breaking up right now. Yeah, eventually they will, just as long as it ain't right now, or anytime soon.
What's your opinion on it?
I think he liked it, he just doesn't want to say. Because he has slagged them off for so long. Amirite? |
I'm not sure this thread ix gonna like my opinion on it.

I personally like more Lateralus than Aenima, but lets hear your opinion.

Well, I didn't like it. The album started off pretty good, Stinkfist is an okay song, apart from the vocals, that's something that annoyed me throughout the entire album, the vocals are so bland, whiny even. I don't really know why you call them progressive, especially with maynard's vocals, they sounds like another post-grungy nu-metal band, I'm not saying that to piss you guys off. Well, maybe a little.
But seriously, they do sound like a lot of those bands, I forget all their names, the ones who have videos on Launch, only Tool's songs are longer. All of the songs just go on and on, with the exception of Stinkfist, which is about the right length. The album wasn't particularly terrible or anything, but the fact that it was so long, I mean 9 minutes or even 13 minutes for a song that barely even shows a lot of change. Sure, there were some moments where I would think 'Hmm, nice riff' or sometimes I would enjoy part of the song. The drums were pretty nice, I guess. Best songs : Stinkfist and especially Intermission, at least that song had some energy. That reminds me, what's with all the useless tracks? They only add to the boredom. Overall, I would give it a 2/5 or so, maybe 1.5/5 for beign so damn long. RUN! |
That reminds me, what's with all the useless tracks? They only add to the boredom.
i hate those as well. I personally love that album, its my favorite from them. At least you stated your opinion wisely.
The drums were pretty nice, I guess.
tell that to a drummer ;) he is the reason i started drumming. |
Well, it also took me a while until i got into them; but instead of listening Aenima, i listened to Lateralus and after a while i got into them.

Whoah I've never seen Maynards voice critiscised before, what bands have vocalists that sound similair to him?

Meh, that's the main thing that bother me about Tool, (apart from the fanboys :p), the vocals, I really don't like them. And like I said, all those post-grunge nu metal bands, I'm not sure about their names. Sevendust, Cold, ??? Those things. |

I dont agree with the "cold" "sevendust" comment, the music is more technicaly thought out than that stuff (more oddtimes, tribal tendencies ETC ) |
Sure, they have that, but to me it sounds like nu metal with issues. :\

Yeah, I guess I meant those bands, I don't like those bands either, I hate that type of voice, it's not just Maynard. |
Sure, they have that, but to me it sounds like nu metal with issues.
I dont understand what you meant by that? you might like lateralus better than Aenima, but if you didnt like Aenima i doubt there will be much of a difference. :)

What vocals are more your thing then? The high vocals? Claudio from coheed and cambria, omar from the mars volta? Harsher vocals? |
nu metal?
explain? i hear refrences, but no backing |
IMO, Maynard's voice is one of the best in the Rock/Metal scene of today. He is very clear, has the abillity to go high and low(ish) and also does a great sceam.
He certainly improved from Opiate till now. And I think he could go beyond extremely good on the new album(new album....). |
