|
The Baroness are awesome.
|
i thought you meant the lp because i've never called them the baroness, always just baroness...
so by "the baroness" i thought you meant like the baroness lp. now i wonder if i should be saying "The"... |
i think the song is about how a mother has children and like quits her job and then like she experiences like depression because she has to just stay at home and watch her kids. Hence, the lines like "I wanna see the building where you used to work in." And I'm not sure, but her husband might have also left her which contributes to the depression. Basically, I think it's about a kind of post partum depression, like dealing with the fact that having children isn't this glorious occasion, it's really kind of depressing because you lose your freedom and stuff.
I get the sense the entire album is about cities and the things within them (namely jobs) running everyones life, and a second theme is the absence of a parent or failed parenthood. The title kind of nods to this, as oxen are castrated bovine (unable to parent) and 'the lion sleeps when its antelope go home' is supposed to be a metaphor for work and how bosses or cities lose power once a person punches out. |
Word, I've never looked into the other lyrics but I think Easter has some kind of a mocking religion theme to it, like the lyrics to "perpetual bris" and "corporeal" are so clever.
|
I just started getting Easter today on slsk, so Ill get back to you on those jamz.
Oxeneers is seriously too good though. |
That's true to a certain extent but Oxeneers totally rules, sure they miss the mark by dragging the songs a little too long sometimes, but overall great album. Their diversity in songwriting improved so much on Easter but there's too many boring tracks to match the great ones.

Anyone want to rap battle my girlfriends 14 year old sister?
I feel like TAAS have awesome songs but haven't put together a whole album that slays me as much as any individual great song can.
Word.
Word, I've never looked into the other lyrics but I think Easter has some kind of a mocking religion theme to it, like the lyrics to "perpetual bris" and "corporeal" are so clever.
I hear a lot of that too. Stuff like "You were born, born from sin/And if that ain't a curse then I don't know what is". |
: Also, Botch just sounds like a better version of Norma Jean to me.
Maybe because Norma Jean is nothing but a huge Botch rip-off? Everytime I hear the opening riff to "Murderotica", I think "Is this Botch?". |
Botch lite
|
Word.

Hmm, apparently someone named Joe Preston played in TAAS. Not the same Joe Preston of the Melving and Earth I assume?
|
no. just a confusion.
|
What do you guys listen to primarily? Genre wise? I've pretty much selected the handful of emo bands i like that i listen to all the time, but i don't listen to that much emo.
I mainly jam grind, 80s USHC, Converge, and early Isis. |
Hey.
So speaking of Botch, guess who's gonna blow up next? If you answered Minus the Bear you guessed right. I was just watching MTV and a commercial hyping them aired. It seems like MTV made it too. Awesome. |
I thought Minus the Bear were already pretty big.

ya they totally botched their sound |
MTB is a pretty big indie band. But w/e I don't think they'll catch one that fast honestly. Number of bands have been played and forgotten on mtv.
|
mtb plays at the mall all the time over the speaker.
|
Minus the Bear is sooo good.
|
I've heard Cave In played a lot in the past in movies/commercials. So meh, I will dig MTB either way.
|
am i the only one who thinks minus the bear sucks a fresh dick?
so boring |
Yeap. Only one.
|
Everyone else that has heard Minus the Bear liked them besides you, Matt.
|
