Bleak is just a great song overall. Great atmosphere, amazing solo in the acoustic break, fantastic clean and growled vocals, impressive structure, and still a headbangable live favorite.
I love that song. Especially the clean part. |
I overlistened Bleak.
|
Can't beat White Cluster of The Lepper Affinity for me.
|
I overlistened Bleak.
I hate when I do that. I'll find a really great song, but then get tired of it 'cause I listened to it too much. |
DADFAD (open dm) tuning is insanely great.
But last I heard was that GR is in DADFAE. I don't know for sure though.
Shi', I thought it was straight up drop D. /screwed |
I overlistened Bleak.
Same. Still listen to it though. But when I'm listening to Blackwater Park I have been skipping it recently. |
For me when it comes to clean singing and acoustic/clean guitar nothing beats Benighted.
|
Bleak builds up greatly. Despite the repetitive intro lyrics, it's overall a great song that flows amazingly.
|
Bleak is one of my favorite Opeth songs, the layered guitars create an hypnotizing effect and SW's vocals are great on that song, they work so good with Mikeal's ones. :)
|
Some poeple don't like them because they're waaaaaay too high.
I can't sing them without stretching my voice to stupidly high levels. |
I have quite a range, so I can sing along with them, though I have to warm my voice to be able to pull if off decently.
|
Can you guys do the intro to The Pot? That's what a real man does.
Bleak is probably my second favorite track off BWP, next to the title track. |
I must say I'm not really familair with Tool's last effort, I don;t like it as much as previous stuff. :(
my favorite off BWP: 1. Title Track. 2. Bleak/ Leper Affinity/Dirge For November. Too many awesome tracks on that album. :) |
My favourites
1. The Drapery Falls(I'm with the fanboys on the awesomeness of this song) 2. Bleak 3. BWP or Leper Affinity |

Why should that be a bad thing? |
Why should that be a bad thing?
/Is listening to a song that last for 71:26. I agree with you Kage. |
Jesus, Pete. I read your "np" in the comm thread, went off line to take a shower and eat, came back, and it was the same song.
What's it like? |
Yeah, it's that long. Haha. It's a song by a Japanese Sludge/Drone band called Corrupted. Their songs are quite long (atleast some of them are) and they sound so evil. This music is poop-your-pants-worthy. really hypnotizing, repetitive and dark. Real mood music, I've been on a binge lately. :) |

SW? Isn't that Mikael? |
He and Mikael trade off/harmonize in one section.
|
SW?
Isn't that Mikael?
The clean parts on Bleak are partially Akerfeldt, partially Wilson. The longer sentences are done by Wilson. Their clean vox sound so much alike, but you'll hear a slight difference. :) |
IMO SW is better with Mikael than on his own; PT's albums get boring with SW singing all the time
|
If this was the Porcupine Tree thread, I'd kick you out. Given that it's the Opeth thread, I'll let those kinds of things slide though.
|
Well his voice is somewhat limited. And a bit weak.
The music's good tho' |

Actually it doesn't. It's just because the vocals are undermixed there (to great effect mind you), that you hardly notice the change. I didn't until someone pointed it out to me, and now they sound completely different.
Well his voice is somewhat limited. And a bit weak.
The music's good tho'
I have to agree with you that SW's voice isn't that strong, however I never get bored of PT, just maybe out of the mood. |
Why should that be a bad thing?
It isn't. You know, just angry people and stuff. Anyway... The Funeral Portrait. |

Being a drummer, I'm not very good at musical theory and stuff, but a lot of PT stuff seems to me to be in the same key - the key that SW can sing in, whatever it is. This leads me to get tired of listening to them after a while. But the drumming is great. :smoke: |

Well every song usually goes through a number of keys. There are a few songs that just follow the same pattern though. |
