Jaymez hetfield is probably one of the best frontmen in the history of metal... He can really get a crowd going and his onstage moves and humour amuse me.
Definatly. James is an amazing frontman. He gets the crowd going by like letting them sing parts of the songs and stuff like that.

Joe 07-05-2005 03:13 PM
Would if I could, Joe. I'm saving for a new guitar. :upset: No cds until I have the guitar in my hands.
Ok, so what guitar you buying? I know some friends that are really interested in the Kirk guitars, but I've never actually tried one. To be honest I love my epiphone. The fretboard is great. However, the wiring is cheap so it won't be long before you need to get the cable jack reqired. Personally Fenders I don't really like. If you have the assets, Gibsons and PRSs are incredible.

So back to Metallica, either get MOP or KEA. Then get the Justice album (technically, it's their best, since you're a guitarist)

Not only that, but I have major respect for him for singing the parts well and playing them at the same time. And he's also pretty fun to watch. It always seems like a better concert when the guys on stage are having fun, and James is always fooling around with the crowd and letting them sing and all. If you haven't seen Metallica (live, not DVD), you need to.

I'm getting a Jackson DXMG Dinky w/ 24 frets. It's pretty awesome and I've heard a lot of good things about Jackson guitars. I know what you mean about the Fenders; I have a sucky-ass Fender Squire. The neck needs to be re-adjusted, it's fretting in many different places and the pickups need serious work. So I figured, fuck it, I'll just get a better guitar.

Metallica. Right. :thumb: I definately want to get Master of Puppets, I have the song on my mp3 player and I love it. I remember the first time I ever heard it; I wasn't sure it was Metallica until I heard Hetfield's voice. The guitar shit is great. The only thing I've heard off Justice is Blackened; good song.

Honesty I think, letting the crowd sing practically ALL of the vocals on the R&M was pretty bad.

hammet_ownz 07-05-2005 07:25 PM

dyers eve is awesome. i just listened to it this morning and after i heard the double bass drum line i can understand why people think lars copied and pated it in the track. its pretty fast. every time i hear it i just shake my head and think that i cant even move my fingers that fast. hell, i cant even think that fast!

what you reckon? did he copy and paste it, or can it be done?

I have a Jackson. It's got great sound, but you can't bend it well and get a good tone, at all (at least on mine).

Only Blackened?! Everyone has heard "One!!" There are some great songs on there
what you reckon? did he copy and paste it, or can it be done?
Possibly for the album, since yes you can do that. But live it's pretty incredible

Listen to ..and justice for all the song. Incredible song. The riffs in that song are amazing.

To Gocaps:What kind of guita do you have? and Have you heard dyers eve live? Because you said live it's pretty incredible.

TheDMV 07-05-2005 08:51 PM

I like ...And just for all, but the faint murmurs of JAson's bass piss the hell out of em. I find some of the songs to be a litle repetetive but Kirk's solos deliver throughout.

Hey Bros, its me again..talkin about guitars? Sweet...check it..i gotta a real fender strat w/ an EMG-81 in the bridge..ya know? the same lead PU as used by Kirk and James...yeah thats right..it sounds freakin bada**. Clean, it s sounds soooo good for intros like Sanitarium, or One, or like Fade to Black. Incredible! espeacially through my 80 watt Fender princeton chorus..w/ chorus of course.....the gain isn't too heavy, so i recently gotta a Line 6 Uber Metal dist. pedal. Rock ON!!!!

hetfieldfan86 07-05-2005 10:25 PM

Btw, i just listened to that Sum-41 tune..and it defintely ripps off some Metallica...yeah, Through the Never, but the rest sounds to me like Damage Inc..not Battery..just what I'm hearing....ROCK ON!!!

Chu 07-05-2005 10:26 PM
Most of the regulars in here like and/or respect Megadeth.
Well now, yes, but I remember the last time the subject of Mustaine/Metallica came up everyone was flaming Megadeth, but no one had really heard any Megadeth as far as I knew, or maybe just the more common songs (i.e. Hangar etc.) I really love Metallica, they will always be Metal gods, but Megadeth is just as good in my opinion.

Pfft Sum 41.

I have this one friend who is totally in to Pop-Punk. Anyway, I was at his house and Metal Mania happened to be on, and they played Metallica's one and this dumbass tried to tell me that Metallica ripped off the Blink 182's Adam's Song riff.

I had to explain to him that One, is a song about 16 years old.
this dumbass tried to tell me that Metallica ripped off the Blink 182's Adam's Song riff.
That is just plain sad. I mean there not even that similar. And more imoportantly were talking about a riff by METALLICA!!!....justa outa curiosity, can either of u guys play much of one?...like the long intricate clena intro>? or the classic Hammett solo at the end? i play the better part of it myself.

Is that when people were arguing who is more technical and such?
justa outa curiosity, can either of u guys play much of one?...like the long intricate clena intro>? or the classic Hammett solo at the end? i play the better part of it myself.
I can play basically the whole song but Hammett's shred solos at the end I have trouble with.

hetfieldfan86 07-05-2005 11:04 PM

Sweet, can u pull off any Hammett solos? like flawlessy? i can basically do the first 2 from Sanitarium and the First from Fade to Black....and technically the harmony in the mid-solo in MOP is Kirk..which i luv to play. First solo i learned honestly.

FlyingPaul_83 07-05-2005 11:05 PM

I can play the first 2 solos( not much of a lead player) and all of the rythm parts.

Dude, I play an LTD M-255. In my opinion ESP makes the best guitars in the world. I don't use pedals though. I used to, but I sold my Metal Zone after I got an amp with an effects board.

hetfieldfan86 07-05-2005 11:15 PM

thats sweet....whats in that again? I seriously want an ESP well, LTD for my next guitar after i get a good amp first......i played a KH-2 this spring..sooo nice....and the tone is sweet.....I plan on gettin the EX-400BD..ya know like James plays a lot...w/ the black diamond....and 2 EMG-81s......and the amp will be a Marshall AVT150 half stack

Pretty sick.

Um..the M-255 has reveresed neck, floyd rose tremelo system, 24 frets (abalone inlays) if that's what you ment by what's in it. I have Seymour Duncan pickups installed.

Nope. I have a sh*t setup. I have a selfmade Flying V and an old peavey head with some random cab. or distorion I use a Ds-1 Distortion pedal. Nothing special, or even average.

Has anyone else gotten the september issue of Guitar world. In the article The Producers it says this:

How long can you go?

Eric Rachel Expains the nuts and bolts of getting good bass tone in your mix.

When metallica's ..and justice for all was released in the summer of 1988, listeners who were spinning the disc(or double-vinyl album) for the first time were often heard muttering these two things;"man these songs are, like, really long," and "Did they even bother recording Jason newsted for this thing? I can't hear any Bass guitar!" The first observation, while true, simply reflected the fact that James Hetfield and co. had deliberately chosen to push the limits of the chromatic riff as far as they possibly could. The second, however, raised an issue with much more far-reaching implications: When you've recorded your guitars to sound as heavy as possible, is there any way in heaven or hell to make the bass audible? It's a puzzler that haunts producers of extreme metal to this very day, and one that producer eric rachel has started to unravel.

hetfieldfan86 07-05-2005 11:42 PM

Thats an interesting point...something i tend to think is that is was the first album w/ out Cliff, who was almost always heard. I really think it has a lot to do w/ the bassist specifically. Ya know like Korn, or so many of these current bands that have 5-strings goin that are pretty present. I think it really all depends. BTW, i plan of installing a Floyd Rose whammy system on my stripped down Strat. and i was wondering how to go about it. since i'll have to have it routered and what not. Rcok on!!!!

hetfieldfan86 07-05-2005 11:43 PM

i'm srry, ROCK ON!!! and keep truckin, keep it comin, headbangers.

I say YOU install on your own. It's cool knowing that you made your guitar better, not some guy in the back of your local guitar store. Just don't fu*k up.

Bazarov 07-05-2005 11:57 PM

Mine came with the Floyd Rose already installed, so I don't know how to go about installing one

hetfieldfan86 07-06-2005 01:01 AM

Do either of u know any guys who have done it?...I may just do that.....ya know for the fun and to save like 50 or 80 bux payin a guy....any help?..or know where i could like get some assistance or instruction.

Bazarov 07-06-2005 01:25 AM

I think if you go here, they'll show you??? I'm not quite sure. http://www.floydrose.com/instructions.html

Thank you....tty tomorrow...P.S. ROCK ON!!!!!!

fatbandit 07-06-2005 02:47 AM

Psh. Ways to make bass audible? It should be audible anyway, in Justice, if it was mixed right. Either way, it all depends on the EQ. Some say lots of mids, will help it cut through, as with bass driven guitars, they leave more in the mid and treble ranges, which the bass can exploit. With the example of Korn, Fieldy is audible because of his EQ too. He cuts out all the mids, and boosts bass and treble, and combined with his 'rotating bitchslap' technique, you hear his characteristic click which he uses to be heard among the downtuned 7 strings.

:smash:

Jev 07-06-2005 05:45 AM

:smash: indeed.

xtreme_skatah 07-06-2005 06:22 AM

I think Metallica should remaster all their albums especially KEA and AJFA. They should do what Dave Mustaine did with his back catalogue

fatbandit 07-06-2005 06:26 AM

Why? KEA has bad production values? Sure. That's how KEA should be. AJFA has no bass? Sure. Put bass in, it stops being the same ol' AJFA. It could be cool, but I don't think they should replace the ones on general sale with remastered ones. Why not remaster St Anger with new drums while you're at it...?

:smash:

Jev 07-06-2005 10:43 AM

They don't really need remastering IMO. Metallica remastered them in 1989 didn't they?

Carlos Santana 07-06-2005 11:01 AM

hey i was wondering, whos seen the Mtv napster Ad in 2000 or so with Lars in it?

Huber 07-06-2005 11:33 AM

I think the production is fine in all of the albums. There's no need for re-production. The albums with the more raw production, are pretty much raw albums.

flamesofbodom 07-06-2005 12:01 PM
Why not remaster St Anger with new drums while you're at it...?
Hmmm...

Huber 07-06-2005 12:03 PM

I'm doing Sweet Amber for the cover comptetition (hopefully), and the snare sound actually makes a difference. The tin can sound I almost like better.

metalcritter666 07-06-2005 12:29 PM
