The new DVD/CD is out or leaked. I downloaded the cd and Alexi's tone is utter crap. I've seen them twice live and it was way better! Why was cranking the gain required for that show?

Not really. Their cd solos are very good. It's just a shame their live solos are the complete opposite.

From correct (sounding) GP tabs, their tunes aren't complex at all. Sam plays a power chord at 250 bpm. Herman plays ultra simple leads, except they're at blazing speeds.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's just some people don't like it. Personally, I enjoy it too. Same thing applies with people like Rusty Cooley. Some people think it's totally boring, others think it's super impressive and they love to watch/hear it.

"Shredding" is a novelty. Yes, it is fun to watch. Yes, it's kinda neat to listen to for a while. After a while, it gets very boring. The fact that someone can alt pick @ insane speeds doesn't make me think ultra highly of them.

I honestly can't stand solo guitar stuff. It gets so bloody boring, it's just nothing but extremely high speed playing for the most part.

i agree with you Mitch. "shred" is indeed used too often.

10guitar players can play at solo at 16th notes at 200bpm and each solo will be different; every gutiar player has its own style. some can write shred-solos which are fantastic, other will write a shred-solo which is boring.

the best example for me is still "the blind leader"-solo by Kalmah... its only fast, one of the fastest solos i've heard, BUT its not only my fav, but even the best solo i've heard so far...

no CoB has great songs. Except in a lot of their songs, they start out cool, but then get kind of lame in some parts.
