In the program I use, there is an "Export to MIDI" option?
Aha! Cool. Mine has that too. How could I get it on the web though so that people could listen to it? I don't know how to use the service you used.

Steerpike 02-14-2005 11:05 PM
That's cool. I save my dissonance for my metal stuff, generally: I'm not very inclined to break too many theory rules when I'm playing melodically, generally speaking. :) But I do occaisionally. It honestly depends on what kind of music I'm playing.
I seem to have an affinity for dissonance myself. One thing I'm fond of doing in my riffs for a little spice is this chord shape:

A |---12---|
E |---9---|

I first heard it used in The Dragon's Child by Iced Earth, and since then I've been experimenting with how to use it properly.
That's pretty cool, man. Sounds like a Breaking Benjamin riff or something with those harmonics and emphasis on the lower strings. With a good drum beat that riff would probably be even extra cool. :thumb:
thanx..i ususally throw in a couple trills and i like to use some quick little "gallops" in place of the palm muted 0/2's

man i love just jammin until i feel like ive got something...music is sweet

I like it. Keep up the good work. I'm impressed with the rhythm skills: as I don't play with a pick it's hard to do really cool fast gallop rhythms like what you do. :thumb:

Lessons? You don't need no stinkin' lessons! :)

I've been playing for three and a half years now, and it's all without lessons. I'm pretty good I'd say...I think I have a natural affinity for the guitar. I have tons of tab books, tons of theory books, tons of guitar magazines...I just drink it all in. It's a trip for me, and it's hugely inspiring to me to learn the whys and wherefores of theory and structure. I've never run scales. Just dedicated practice, practice practice.

\m/Pete\m/ 02-14-2005 11:52 PM

yeah thats how i am

Im 19 almost 20 and my little brother (16) and i were taking lessons at the same time but i only did 1 cuz i got a job out of town and he took them all and he is phenominal...its rediculous how good he is and frankly i am jealous, but i do feel that i have a nac for songwriting and what fits and what doesnt so we'll see where i go from there. :)

I took lessons to start, but there really aren't any good teacher around my town. I just learn everything from the internet and books now.

\m/Pete\m/ 02-15-2005 12:14 AM

My teacher was amazing...he won a national finger picking contest or something like that 2 years in a row, plus i know him personally and hes a really great guy so i might go back to him since we're friends and that

The only reason I stick with my teacher now is because I've gotten to know him personally, and he's an awesome guy. He can't teach me **** anymore, but he's still cool.

Huber 02-15-2005 12:20 AM

My drum teacher apprently has a band that is getting kinda big. He's real modest and doesn't really share anything from it though. His name is Mike Lund. Does that ring a bell to anyone?

I've been taking lessons with the same guy for 5 1/2 years. Lessons are a good thing. Well, atleast for some people. I see myself stopping my lessons only when I really have too. There's always something new to learn. Even if your just learning random tidbits from a song, it's good to have someone else there to help you. Especially when you can't think of anything to work on, you always have someone else to give you criticism and tell you what to do.

\m/Pete\m/ 02-15-2005 12:27 AM

did any of you listen to my song on the previous page at all?
I think it's been down since Sunday night...about two days? Not sure
Yeah, I wasn't able to get on at all last night, and its been up and down periodically through the day.

Riva 02-15-2005 01:05 AM

Hehe, good old database corruption. :)

^Dream~Theater^ 02-15-2005 01:11 AM

How is everyone doing?

Riva 02-15-2005 01:12 AM

I'm doing fine. Nothing utterly screwing up my day yet. YET.

ArcLite 02-15-2005 01:13 AM

Not bad. At work, eating some Fatdonald's, MXing again...don't get no better.

Riva 02-15-2005 01:24 AM

I see. Well, I can imagine better, but then I am Australian. :)

You mean such as frollicking through the outback with your neighborly kangaroos and dingos?

/And it would be better if I had a nice frosty brew in my hand as well.

Riva 02-15-2005 01:33 AM

That reminds me.

*grabs beer*

Ahh, that is much better.

By the way, added a solo at the end...sorta (imagine rough take #1):
