What's great about EADGBE? DGCFAD pwns it.
I can get just as heavy(Opeth plays in E standard btw), and I don't to have adjust everything by a whole step. |

I know Opeth does. I don't mind tuning to different tunings all the time. |

I don't mind tuning to different tunings all the time.
Its just easier for me, Because that I know exactly what I am playing, and I don't have to think as much about it. |

My theory isn't great as you know. So it doesn't make a different theory wise what tuning I'm in. I just tune to w/e the song is in. That's pretty much it. |

Ya thats why I said it was easier for me. |

@Mitch: i recently got i problem, maybe you can help me. first of all i'm burn out on guitar... i don't enjoy it anymore, don't have fun while playing and therefore i haven't really played guitar for more than one week.
The main reason is that i can't hear the same melodies all the time; i sit down and practise my licks for some hours to play it smoother and faster but after some weeks i got sick of the same melodies... its the same with Kalmah's Swamphell. i have to relearn it, cause i made the same mistake all the time, but its so frustrating. i play it at 40bpm and i can't play it for 10x without mistake. at least at the 4th time i made a mistake :upset: i have this routine i do every time: warm up, play licks, concentrate on technique and finger stretching, learning songs (lick after lick, part after part) - and everything i do is playing slow... increasing speed takes a lot (too much) of time; so therefore i think i'm frustrated, don't enjoy guitar anymore, etc. can you give me some tips i can do better? how are you practising, playing? do you too have any special routine-practise? |

Repcak: Do you have a teacher? If not maybe get one. That could help/encourage you to play more often and a teacher should know how to get you out of the rut that you're in. Alternatively, I guess you could just try learning some fairly easy yet fun to play stuff to keep your enjoyment alive. I doubt I'm much help. I'm distracted at the moment so I can't give you a very good answer. |
Something Wild is C# Standard.
Follow the Reaper and Hatebreeder and D standard - DGCFAD Hatecrew Deathroll is D standard except Angels Dont Kill and Sixpounder. AYDY is Drop D: Down a step - CGCFAD. This is going from memory, havent actually palyed or listened to CoB in months :p. |

No ?
Drop D = DADGBE then, Down a Step = CGCFAD. |
No ?
Drop D = DADGBE then, Down a Step = CGCFAD.
Bodom doesn't play in drop D though, they just drop everything a whole step and play in D Standard, then just drop the low string to a C. |
I'm not saying they play in Drop D? Learn to read.
They use the tuning 'Drop D: Down a step' which morons call 'Drop C' - CGCFAD. |
so you mean, Drop C in D Standard, right? :p
|
so you mean, Drop C in D Standard, right? :p
Yes, if you want to say it like a retard. |
he, that tunning is called drop d down a step like squirrel said. people get confused by tunnings, like drop b which is not, B F# B E G# C#.

Bad. Plexi is a very bad influence on you (lawl @ me for sounding like a concerned mother). |

it is quite a bitch...
but i find the journey extremely invigorating. WTF else would i do, watch TV? |
You are doing exactly what it takes to be a good guitarist.
 what i do is only practising ... and after some time i just can't listen/hear to the same melodies/licks all the time. i play always with a metronome. its frustrating ... i don't play, i practise and i don't enjoy it anymore... and playing guitar should be, in the first play, be fun |
trying doing more diatonic exercises, or bits from different solos you wanna do. Try changing it up more if you find everything becoming STALE
|

Try playing songs for your friends, start a band, write your own material. |
diatonic exercises? what do you mean?
the other thing is... if you want to learn something, you have to start to play it SLOW and increase the speed each time a little bit.... and thats frustrating too! i can play some licks fast, as fast as it should be, but its sloppy... but when i want to play it clean i take my metronome and play this lick 20-30x until i increase the speed... and thats frustrating... cause it takes so long to increase the speed. everything i play, i play at 50% of the speed it should be :upset: and tell me, how many time do you practise and how much of the time you play just for fun and do other things (like theory) |
diatonic exercises, as in exercises that follow a progression, and actually sound like music

For the Swamphell thing, I would say turn the metronome OFF and play it as slow as you can without messing up. Even if you have the metronome at 40bpm, you're still being pressured to keep in time and be constantly playing, if you haven't mastered it in terms of what frets to play, then you should not be practising with a metronome, just play each note one by one really slow without an amp or clean and make sure you have it down perfectly, then put the metronome on at 40. I get discouraged from playing all the time, after an hour I'm bored of the licks, the guitar, myself, life, but you just got to stick at it, take a break, have a drink etc and maybe listen to a really good song, when I do that, I think "woh, I wanna be able to do that" then it motivates me to play again, and since I've been playing already that day, I'm kinda warmed up so I can jump right in. Also, watching live videos and instructional stuff also gets me in the guitar playing mood, give that a shot. |

Playing in key basically. When something is said to be Diatonic the meant it is in whatever key. An example would be saying that B is diatoninc in Cmaj. |
