On Jaga Jazzist, I enjoy what we must because the band feels more grouped together than A Livingroom Hush, but as btqlwlst said, it's more energetic and pumped-up.

bwnstl 08-07-2007 08:51 AM

I know they're more sludgey and post-metal based, but I'm completely in love with Mouth of the Architect right now. "Boabab" is my favorite song at the moment.

What does everyone else think about them?

Zebra 08-07-2007 10:13 AM

I like 'em.

Shadius 08-07-2007 10:39 AM

I find a lot of post-rock kind of boring, but I admit that it's the kind of music can can grow to love if you give it time to sink in.

My favourite post rock bands are probably 65daysofstatic and Sigur Ros, tbh, because they don't fit the mould that a lot of post-rock i've heard seems to adhere to.

Shattered_Future 08-07-2007 11:36 AM

Mouth Of The Architect bored me quite a bit, to be honest.

Eliminator 08-07-2007 11:37 AM

the more you let post rock sink in the more it sucks

Angmar 08-07-2007 11:39 AM
the more you let post rock sink in the more it sucks
Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose then... not that I would know or anything :p

depends the band
the more you let post rock sink in the more it sucks
This is true a lot of the time.

Moon Flavor 08-07-2007 12:31 PM

^yes. Bands like Explosions and Godspeed I could stand a little more as I listened to them for a while. Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, etc though....it just gets more predictable with each listen.

edit:yes@uncle phil and kage

Kage 08-07-2007 12:32 PM

Godspeed is something else. It's not fair discussing them with post rock bands because it's just not fair for all the mortals and their little guitar melodies drenched in reverb.

Moon Flavor 08-07-2007 12:38 PM
Godspeed is something else. It's not fair discussing them with post rock bands because it's just not fair for all the mortals and their little guitar melodies drenched in reverb.
Wait...you actually think Godspeed is that much better than all the bands that sound like them?

Kage 08-07-2007 12:39 PM

Compare the world's greatest architectural achievement to a tiny, rickety lean-to in some desert.

If Antoine Saint Exupéry influenced a band it must be mildly good.

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-07-2007 12:55 PM

i wouldnt go that far kage

Kage 08-07-2007 12:59 PM

Then again you also dissed dredg's Catch Without Arms simply because it's poppy.

Moon Flavor 08-07-2007 12:59 PM
Compare the world's greatest architectural achievement to a tiny, rickety lean-to in some desert.
...no kidding?

Godspeed is just...i dunno....decent.

edit: I dissed it for that? No way, I listen to plenty of pop. If anything I dissed it because it sucks.

Kage 08-07-2007 01:07 PM

I was talking to YouGottaBeCrazy regarding the dredg thing.

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-07-2007 01:20 PM
Then again you also dissed dredg's Catch Without Arms simply because it's poppy.
No, I dissed it because half of the songs sound like generic pop rock, which is true. It's a half-baked album through and through. You're the one that was practically jizzing over it's songwriting.

Good call though.

Kage 08-07-2007 01:23 PM

No, that's not true. It sounds like dredg, except they used more structured song formats, which is okay, it's not a crime. You don't really know what you're talking about, anyway, because you called their earlier albums experimental.

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-07-2007 01:45 PM

Experimental for a rock band with a generally catchy sound, yes. And I do know what I'm talking about. You can't see it because you're buying into the dredg hype too much. The songs themselves are inconsistent, with some just being downright bland and uninspired.

Kage 08-07-2007 02:17 PM

I'm buying into the dredg hype, that's funny. I was into dredg before you joined these forums and back when they were rarely ever talked about on here.

If anything you're the one buying into the hype using buzzwords like experimental.

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-07-2007 03:09 PM

No. CWA is a mediocre album.

Dimmu Burger 08-07-2007 03:24 PM

Anybody heard Jesu? I recently picked up their album Conqueror and found it interesting.

Eliminator 08-07-2007 03:28 PM

never heard of them

what do they play

Kage 08-07-2007 03:28 PM
No. CWA is a mediocre album.
Shut the fuck up, you make a terrible elitist.

Of course, we spent a good load of time talking about them ITT. I love that band.

Sorry I'm a bit late, but it has a cool sound to it. Good chillin music.

I'm starting to really like Hydra Head bands. Ive liked Cave In for awhile, but they have a lot of good bands!

publicastration 08-07-2007 03:38 PM

I can't believe anyone could call Catch Without Arms mediocre.

Why is catchy a bad thing?

Anyway, can we discuss post metal in here too? As you can see by my avatar I'm a big Battle Of Mice fan, anyone else like them?

Kage 08-07-2007 03:38 PM

Check out Mare.
I can't believe anyone could call Catch Without Arms mediocre.
I just have a hard time getting into Dredg in general.

A Dead Modernist 08-07-2007 03:53 PM

Anyone like Animal Hospital? Not sure if they fall directly into Post-Rock, but it has its influences.

camdizzle 08-07-2007 03:54 PM

Also Check out Do Make Say Think. I'm not sure if they've been talked about yet and I don't want to go through 118 pages to check, but for recomended songs:

The End of Music
The Landlord is Dead
It's Going to Rain
Minmin

Yep, that's a pretty damn good album. I still have to listen to Made Out of Babies (one of the parent bands of Battle of Mice) and see what I think about them. They also have Julie Christmas on vocals.

On Jesu's Conquerer: I appreciate Jesu, and they're interesting and pretty good, but their later albums are a little to synth-heavy (or whatever that is) for my tastes.

Which album(s) do you like? I'm pretty new to them.

Kage 08-07-2007 06:45 PM

Get Silver and the Self-titled.

jrowa001 08-07-2007 06:49 PM

Silver is my fav from Jesu

Concubine 08-07-2007 06:52 PM

Made Out Of Babies are pretty bad
Which album(s) do you like? I'm pretty new to them.
Silver is their best. Self-titled is pretty good. Conqueror is pretty good as well except for the aforementioned synth-heaviness.

Dimmu Burger 08-07-2007 07:58 PM

I don't mind the synth really. But I'll have to check out those other albums.

NemesisDivina 08-07-2007 08:14 PM

listening to Conqueror right now.

good stuff :D
