It's been adopted by chavs etc over here in the UK. It's quite amusing watching a skinhead with an IQ of approximately 6 wandering round threatening smaller people in a pink polo shirt.
There was a big fight last night between the larger louts and the chav gangs in the town centre alst night and I swear the whole high street had just turned pink. There was not a single one of them without some sort of pink polo shirt or knitwear or something.

FA 03-12-2006 12:09 PM

Is everyone here from the UK? Or is chav an american thing I'm not aware of?

metaliq 03-12-2006 04:42 PM

Chav is slang for chafe.

The chavs usually have itchy inner thighs.

Yo.

Just because I'm dismal and bored, I'll suggest a listen.

My band. I do bass and voice. I just put up a new song, with lyrics that I posted on here. "Eviscerate."

Not really my kinda music, so it's hard to comment on it.

I can believe that.

Hey, new member here. Am I in the right place or am I about to get flamed?

Just wanted to 'Hello' to everyone. Hello.

Nightvision 03-13-2006 07:38 AM

You're in the right place. Good start.

You'd have only got flamed if you'd have made a thread about it. Also, just as a suggestion, have a look round the rules thread and read a few songs/critiques by the guys in this thread just so you can get an idea of what the place is all about - we're all pretty laid back if everyone stays sensible. Sadly, that doesn't always happen. :-\

FA 03-13-2006 09:44 AM

haha, rarely does it happen. Like jason said, read the rules, be considerate...etc.

Welcome to the S7L Forums.

metaliq 03-13-2006 11:37 AM

S7L forums!!!

Yeah. Welcome. Critique well and we will love you.

drumass04 03-13-2006 11:44 AM

Haha, indeed!!

Welcome to the forums! Hope to see some of your writing up on the board and a few crits from you as well.

SikotikBunana 03-13-2006 05:59 PM

Thank you all.

I have read all the rules and looked over a few posts. I'm trying to be extra careful after that albino-midget-porn-posting-in-a-Harry-Potter-community-thread incident.

I'm an awesome critic. My mom tells me that all the time.

My "****" is deeply influenced by Aria Giovanni and Briana Banks getting it on.

I'll post something right now and I hope you guys have the patience to go through it.

Good to be here.

And please, no nude pics of yourself in my PM.

SikotikBunana 03-13-2006 06:04 PM

Hey, the censor actually made it better. Lets throw a little bestiality in there.

The "****" didn't come out right.

I'll stop now and post something.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 03-13-2006 06:35 PM

Watch out for me though, I'm angry and probably senile.

Amanda Woodward rules. Discuss.

It's teen angst, isn't it?

Go on, admit it.

Justin; two can play that game... http://timmyjp.deviantart.com

I have a question for you all...I want to show my mum the poem I wrote about my dad after he killed himself. Thing is I don't know how to do it, I can't exactly walk upto her and thrust it in her face and say read this like I do with most of my work can I?

Last time I showed her something I wrote about my dad (a piece of prose) she cried, I know she'll cry when she reads this piece. I don't really want to upset her all over again. Should I just keep it for a later date?

On a slightly happier note I'm moving house soon, back to a rather larger citadel :D I've been thinking about my bedroom, I don't really want all my posters on the walls again, they're all getting a bit old and tatty now. I've decided on doing some cool black and white photos and a couple of coulered as well.

I also want to incorporate some of my poetry into the room, preferably something that isn't permanent so no writing on the walls!! Any ideas?

Perhaps get a photo-frame sized piece of glass, and etch the words onto the back of it? (Just remember to write backwards!)

drumass04 03-14-2006 11:38 AM

That would look awesome, I could get some clear acrylic through school, and then use the laser cutter or router to engrave it. Would look kinda cool :)

Thanks!!

Haha, I've done my good deed for the day. :p

drumass04 03-14-2006 12:02 PM

Haha :p

I've still got mine to come...Does helping disabled people count?

*enters silly ramble for the sake of it*
I'm out tonight helping at D of E (Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for those who don't know about it, visit www.theaward.org ) They run a Mixed Abilities course for mentally and physically disabled teenagers and young adults. It's not only a great experience for them but also a great experience for the leaders involved in helping them through it.

It can often be quite challenging, persuading someone with the mental capabilities of a 6 year old, and the physical capablities of a 3 year old, to light a camp stove and cook over flames can often be fairly daunting!! As I said I help at the centre with the MAs at Bronze and Silver level.

Very interesting experiences to be had!! Great fun though, and gives you a great feeling of satisfaction at the end as well!! (I'm only a leader because of my skills in the outdoors - an Ex-mountain rescue leader I used to walk with gave up trying to teach me the necessary skills because I knew everything he could throw at me. I could also keep up with him on a week long expedition :D)

Right I'm going now, before I totally lose the plot.

Talk later!!

Timmy P

deathscreamingsheep 03-14-2006 02:08 PM

Ah good old Duke of Edinburgh. I completed silver about 6 months ago and handed in my award book. I was preparing to begin gold this summer until I was told that they don't have my Silver book cause the jackass I handed the book to has lost it. I'm still arguing with them at the moment.

drumass04 03-14-2006 03:42 PM

Haha, sounds like fun!

I'm going onto Gold about this time next year because I'm too young at the moment :(

slack 03-14-2006 10:52 PM

Anyone get tired of trying to be an avant garde writer all the time? Anymore I just find it very taxing to read. I dunno, maybe that's a weird question, but I was thinking about it today and I came to the conclusion that I just don't give a shit about what is or is not cliche anyone. I mean, most things are not horribly cliche anyways, but I find it's a common criticism because it's an easy one to make.

Ah well.

And get well Tojes. :) Try ginger ale.

eh, I donno. I like reading off-beat stuff, something new other than the same old "cliche" stuff. But if I find it as an interesting read, I let that person know.

ps: you mean...Try Ipecac...right? right.

slack 03-14-2006 11:23 PM

Hm. I was browsing PFFA and most of the advanced stuff is over my head, so that's why I thought that. I dunno. I guess I burnt myself out on poetry when I was really into it.

Chicken soup is the best when you're sick.

EmergencyRoom 03-15-2006 03:45 AM

Jeez, i've only been gone for a few months and i've no idea who most people in here or the pit are anymore! The world has moved on and left me standing still. :-(

Nightvision 03-15-2006 07:42 AM

I have to admit, I'm not all that keen on the avant-garde style... however, I do enjoy reading some of the good stuff some of you guys put up.

I think a lot of the problem is with S&L (and don't get me wrong, things are better right now than they have been for a while... it was absolutely dead a couple months back...) is that there aren't that many really excellent SONGwriters. We have some excellent writers here, most of whom have posted on this page to save my name-dropping and forgetting someone, but the popular style looking around seems to be the slightly unstructured poetry piece, usually a fairly short one as well (apart from DR's marathon pieces... :p;)) - which is fair enough, as we can't force people to submit stuff they're not happy with, but there's no real middle ground.
We've got some outstanding poets in the regs, and some horrible songwriters in the n00bs (not all of them, but posts like Varment's are typical of what we've been getting recently), but not a lot inbetween.

metaliq 03-15-2006 11:12 AM

Jason, it seems that I only find enjoyment writing songs when I have a band to do it with. Usually I write them off of a song already written, or I recycle poetry and make it fit.

I just find more personal gratification from writing free flow stuff instead of sticking to a set mold.

:) Just my input, yo.

Nail on head. :smash:
:p

What needs to be happening is for the not so good writers to stick around and learn from their criticisms and from reading the better writers stuff. I know that i've most definitely become more creative from being around here, although i don't know about better. I always seem to run into the same problems with my stuff and i know my major flaw: lack of concentration. I tend to be "in the zone" (that's the worst phrase ever btw) at the start of writing a piece and then tail off after a verse or so. Trouble is i can never concentrate long enough to try to fix my flaw...

metaliq: i find that working with others brings on my creativity too. Unfortunately i do most of the writing duties for my project, both lyrical and musical. I find sometimes that when no-ones pushing me i don't move forward.

metaliq 03-15-2006 11:30 AM

Yeah. If you have a "deadline" for a song, like the next practice or something, it usually helps make me write it. Hah.

Same goes for my essays in school... I usually get 2-3 weeks to write it and start at 2am the day it's due. I score pretty well and sometimes I dont remember most of what I wrote, but I cant get work done if I have anything else that I could do.

Not saying writing is like an essay for school... but I find deadlines help push me.

I just need to start writing again.

deathscreamingsheep 03-15-2006 12:07 PM

I don't know whether it's because I'm narrow minded musically (instruments-wise) or purely because I like a lot of pop, but my writing has done a wierd 3 stage change.

1. The boring angst.
2. Then comes the serious free-verse shizzle where I just wrote a lot of free-verse poems.

The problem is, that these poems don't trasnslate well into song, especially becuase while my music is quite proggy, my main project is based mainly on melodies and with big loud chorus's, and while the verses can be poetic, I'd actually prefer to write my song in a more accessible style.

So actually currently I'm moving onto a third stage where I'm attempting to be more accesable in my lyrics, the difficulty being that I don't want to become boring in my writing...

EmergencyRoom 03-15-2006 12:43 PM

Dammit!

I just posted a piece with haiku then realised that slackjaw got there before me!!!!

Now i look like a tube:mad:

deathscreamingsheep 03-15-2006 12:47 PM

I'll freely admit that I'm writing a haiku simply because of recent interest for them in the forums.

Plus, Slackjaws isn't actually a Haiku as it doesn't follow the syllable count, but it is a pretty cool snap of poetry.

drumass04 03-15-2006 01:07 PM

Aye, it seems to be good poetry or crappy songwriting at the moment. I find that I naturally write poetry, this is partly because I can never seem to fit my writing into a structure that is necessary for a lyrical piece.

I should try some Haikus and other different types of poetry for a change.

As long as I don't start writing shape poems I'm fine within myself!!!!!

Get well soon Tojes, I'm just recovering from the bug that seems to be going around at the moment.

Timmy P

SikotikBunana 03-15-2006 01:12 PM

drumass04, why not try sonnets too? You can even make up your own rhyme schemes...

Nightvision 03-15-2006 01:30 PM

Hmmm... I'm toying with the idea of writing a song in collabaration with someone else... but it's a case of getting back into the writing groove, and finding a willing victim... not to mention the problems of actually writing the thing! :-\

EmergencyRoom 03-15-2006 01:43 PM

I've always resisted writing with anyone else due to the lennon/mcartney problem of which name comes first on the credits:p . Your post gives me an idea though. We could have a collaborations thread where two people could interact via email to write and post some work like that. It would give people a bit of experience with that sort of thing if they wanted to try it. Just a thought...

I'm full of inspiration today. I really have to work out why and do it again:)
