ahh... Where's the spirit? I'm having some fun with this dumbfuck n00b.

Slayer wise,

\still angry they aren't coming to Portland

I figured out the beginning of Silent Scream by ear and I'm dead set on learning that in the near future.

Bazarov 03-13-2006 04:22 PM

That sucks. I guess Portalnd is far away from Salem. I'm still trying to convince my father to drive us up towards LA to see them on their last tour date. I should have my license by then, but I don't even think he'd let me go by myself.

The only song I've figured out by myself slayer wise.. is the intro to Dissendent Aggressor. I should try to figure it out myself, but I'm far too lazy and impatient.

It's great practice and skill building to learn by ear, but I can't wait when a great tab is a click away.

Pantallica32 03-14-2006 11:34 AM

i wonder if slayer has some relative long songs?? ( like 8 to 10 min)
long songs compared to other bands
if your talking just about slayer then a five minute song is quite long

purgatory 03-14-2006 12:06 PM

Angle of Death is a good song, but my favortie would have to be either Manditory Suicide, or New Faith! good **** though. im going to see them with Children of Bodom in May!!!

Hell Awaits has some pretty long songs. I think 2 or nearly 7 minutes.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-14-2006 11:35 PM

Yeah Hell Awaits has their longest ones. Chemical Warfare is also pretty long.

both are great songs but if they were any longer id fall asleep lol. Slayers songs are the perfect length i believe. bands like i think i have A.D.D.

Song length:

First thing that comes to mind is Opeth, as much as I love them... That really gets old. I find myself listening to 5 minutes and moving on.

I think Slayer's songs are just right length wise.

Don't you live in San Diego? They playing there first aren't they? They're definetly doing San Diego though....

They're coming to europe aswell but no dates have been confirmed.

nowitzki 03-15-2006 11:15 AM

^I will go to that without a doubt.

SimonCore 03-15-2006 01:31 PM

^ I missed the last one, however i wasn't half as into slayer then as i am now. It'll probably be mid summer perhaps.
Don't you live in San Diego? They playing there first aren't they? They're definetly doing San Diego though....
Yeah they're playing SD first. And that's where I'm seeing them.

SimonCore 03-15-2006 03:33 PM

^ Oh so you just wanna see them twice?

Bazarov 03-15-2006 03:47 PM

Yeah. If I could, I'd see them on every date in America. I remember when I bought Metallica tickets there were these 3 biker guys talking about how they were following on the tour and had seen them like 8 times already just on the current tour.

SimonCore 03-15-2006 03:50 PM

^I wish i was rich enough to do that lol. (for the record i'm not actually poor, infact my family is quite rich, i was just stating my parents don't give me money i have to pay for everything myself)

Their funding probably comes from mugging kids at the shows. :)

 probably. They didn't look like well-to-do rich people.

Same here, well I wouldn't say my family is rich. But once I turned 16 my dad has made me buy all my concert tickets. :( Oh well.

Thor 03-15-2006 04:09 PM

I've always had to buy my own concert tickets because my dad obviously doesn't want to listen to the same stuff that I do. He says that if I want to see a band he doesn't want to then I have to pay for everything, minus his ticket.

Me and my dad have very similar tastes in music. Except he doesn't like death metal. But most of the thrash bands and other metal bands that I like he likes. Which is cool, we had a jolly time headbanging at Metallica. He wanted to see Slayer with me last year, but he's handicap and the venue last year was all stand up venue (no seats or stands anywhere, which is lame) and he wouldn't have been able to see them.

So this time he's going to get to see them, but yeah he bought his own ticket and made me buy my own.

Thor 03-15-2006 04:42 PM

I got my dad intop Opeth, but only their soft material. At least it's a start.

and why was your dad handicapped?

Bazarov 03-15-2006 04:55 PM
I got my dad intop Opeth, but only their soft material. At least it's a start.

 My dad is the exact same way with Opeth. We almost went and saw them on Monday, but we thought it was Tuesday, and we missed it.

Um he's handicap because back in '83 he had Ewing Sarcoma which is a kind of bone cancer, so they gave him maximum radiation treatment and now because of that he now has lymphedema, which is where his lymphnodes retain the water, so his left leg is extremely swollen. And the cancer at away his hip so he can only stand or walk for very brief amounts of time.

So did I. I played him the Damnation album and he liked it a lot. I don't think he'd like Demon Of The Fall or Master's Apprentices. haha.

Mr. Black 03-16-2006 11:07 AM

So, Erm, I need your help.

I'm going on Saturday to get Raining Blood. Is there anything else I should get too, cos my guitar tutor, told me to Get Raining Blood and nowt else, as the rest isn't great but, Y'Know. Is there ouwt else I need?

that sucks, i'm lucky my dad likes almost every band i like
comes in handy if you want to go to a festival or a concert
just hanging out with dad like hes one of my friends,
... accept when hes drunk ( none of my friends get as drunk as my dad)

SimonCore 03-16-2006 11:32 AM

Fariplay gigs aren't really that expensive. I spend more on transport there and stuff than the actual ticket.

purgatory 03-16-2006 12:34 PM

Slayer is without a doubt one of the greatest bands to ever record an album. I think we can all agree on that. It makes me think though. Why wont they headline thier own annual tour?

If you like Reign in Blood, you should like Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy.

Mr. Black 03-16-2006 03:55 PM

Oh I'll get them too, then.

Bazarov 03-16-2006 04:07 PM

Good :thumb:

Hell Awaits in my opinion has Slayer's best work. If you like Hell Awaits you also might want to get Haunting the Chapel, but there are only 4 songs on it, though those 4 songs are extremely awesome.

Hell Awaits (title track) is on of their best songs. In addition to being a favorite of mine.

Oh no way, the vocals on Hell Awaits are way too bad. Tom Araya is capable of so much more, as you would see later on South of Heaven.

There are some good riffs on Hell Awaits, but their songwriting abilities weren't at their best by this point in the band's lifetime.

Fools! You will pay for your blasphemes!

BLS_Infernus 03-16-2006 08:00 PM

 Hell Awaits is a great album but it only lacks decent production qualities.
