There need to be more bands like Earth Crisis.

"Hey were Earth Crisis and if your not Straight Edge, There's the fucking door."

cbmartinez 09-27-2004 02:35 PM

When I went to a show yesterday, there was this fashioncore kid there, and he was wearing a pink bandana over his face, cowboy style. Anyway, the lead singer of one of the bands, Break Away, goes, "Dude, are you from Philly? Cause you look tough as hell." I was cracking up.

knoxrockstar 09-27-2004 03:15 PM

I have to say this: the new Sum 41 cd is very very good. I'm posting it in hear because it has a metal/metalcore feel, and I thought you guys might want to check it out.

"The bitter end" sounds like a mix between Metallica's "batter" and "master of puppets."

BuddyBigsby 09-29-2004 11:13 AM

They've been a guilty pleasure of mine for a while...

NewKindofArmy03 09-29-2004 02:37 PM

Yeah they are. I heard their new stuff a while ago before I got the stuff in the mail, after I had joined the street team, and I didn't like it. But I'm listening to the sampler and it sounds great.

You can't say there is no hardcore left in them. Those two songs are really good, nu-metal or not.
**Decided to bring this into the Punk Forum. If it turns into a spam/agrument thread then close it as soon as possible. It's meant for education and actual discussion.

This is for those of you who throw around the the phrase hardcore far too often.

Metalcore is often mistaken for Hardcore on these boards. Here's the difference.

Hardcore is punk influenced music that sometimes has a heavier sound and sometime's doesn't. It sometimes have breakdowns and some don't, this depends more on the age of the band. Some are straight edge, some aren't. But most have honest sincere lyrics about issues that they themselves face.

Metalcore is obviously metal influenced and because they're of this there is more complexity in the writings of guitar, more noted riffs added to it than hardcore has.. Some say that it has punk influences...but that depends on what band you are talking about. Metalcore has a lot of breakdowns, most of which have the "JUN JUN JUN" sound which some double bass. Metalcore was a lot better a couple years ago before more and more band's started learning that you can tune into drop-C, use only thin picks, and get a drummer who knows his double bass.

Hardcore bands:
Blood For Blood, Chain Of Strength, American Nightmare, Death Threat, Judge, Gorilla Biscuits, 7 Seconds, Champion, Count Me Out, Carry On, Terror

Metalcore bands:
Hatebreed, 100 Demons, Bury Your Dead, Black My Heart, On Broken Wings, Hoods, North Side Kings, Walls Of Jericho, Clenched Fist

Hatebreed is hardcore and sounds nothing like metal. The only other thing i want 2 comment on is you left out the 2 most known probably best metalcore bands Lamb of God,God Forbid and Killswitch Engage which basically put metalcore on the map.

you don't think hatebreed is AT ALL metallic? uhhhhhh okay.

you don't know what you're talking about.

Let's Chop Cats! 09-29-2004 09:29 PM

Lamb of God is more metal than anything else.

Killswitch is metalcore sure, it's not like we need list every band possible.
Besides Jesse > Howard for KsE vocals.

shane italian 09-29-2004 09:31 PM

Notice he said we left out 2 bands yet mentioned 3.

40 oz 2 freedom 09-29-2004 09:33 PM

shane italian 09-29-2004 09:34 PM

Let's Chop Cats! 09-29-2004 10:28 PM

Someone should cover Dag Nasty, but in a more hardcore style. Man...I have all these awesome ideas but no band to back it up.
