I went to a Zaireeka show last night.
left half way through.
Sucks for you. |
So I'm seeing Joanna Newsom on Tuesday.
I think that it should be awesome. |
I missed her in Columbus about 2 months ago.
Have fun though. |
It better be awesome for how much time/hassle I spent refreshing craigslist to try and find tickets after it sold out the day before we were going to buy them.
|
Tomorrow I start pilates.
|
Tomorrow I go to school.
|
Today I go to school.
It better be awesome for how much time/hassle I spent refreshing craigslist to try and find tickets after it sold out the day before we were going to buy them.
I honestly can't imagine it will be really amazing, but I'm sure it won't be a bad show. |
Yeah, Johanna and her harp can't be too exciting
|
yes it can
|
So I'm seeing Joanna Newsom on Tuesday.

I don't like her voice.
|
I'm finding the Joanna Newsom love very hard to understand.
|
Same here. I already deleted her album.
|
I'll probably keep it, but I'll be surprised if I listen to it more than one more time.
|
hey dmd
you were saying t'other day you wanted to see a picture of me to judge if i was unattractive as i always said i was. well, here goes nothing: http://www.myspace.com/imliam |
You're exaggerating, you are not unattractive. Getting contacts may not be a bad idea though methinks.
I crashed during my driving lesson today (minor crash but still), and now I've got a soccer match in the swirling wind and rain tonight. Life rules! |
That seems like it'd be the ONLY way to play soccer
|
Soccer's pretty boring.
|
I really like Joanna Newsom. I find her voice to be a rather charming fit for the style of music and I also find her lyrical style to be noteworthy. Milk-Eyed Mender is a genuinely nice folk-pop album. And Ys is an exceptional marriage of traditional folk with the compositional scope of classical music.
It's a shame she played at my University when I hadn't gotten around to hearing Milk-Eyed Mender yet. I'm still kicking myself for missing that show. Especially since my Uni rarely books any good shows. |

Could somebody please explain to me in detail what "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" is like?? And what their top albums are??
It'd be appreciated :) |
Their music is based around long-building crescendos where more and more instruments layer on and build up to a huge climax. It often starts with a single guitar riff and adds percussion, bass, horns, violins, cellos, keyboards, voice samples, etc. Usually very dark, lonely and depressive in nature, although occasionally uplifting. Their songs are often segmented into distinct movements, causing one track to last anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour or more.
Their best album will vary from person-to-person but most people start with F#A# infinity. My personal favorite is Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven and their EP (which is far more digestible), Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada. |
This is what a Godspeed You! Black Emperor song is like:
0.00---silence---4.30---cymbal---12.00---more silence--- --15.00---violins start chugging--21.45---guitar enters--37.03-- --drums and bass kicks in---46.40---the first melody is introduced---50.30-- --cellos enter---speed increases---ENTER THE TIMPANI!-- -59.34---heavier and heavier--now one more note on the guitar-- --74.00--CLIMAX--CLIMAX--CLIMAX--74.25---silence---95.30-- --more silence--146.06---the end |
146.06 of pure awesomeness, exactly.
|
more like Sweasshole.
|
I dig them though.
