A little help: Any recommendations for Southern metal/sludge type bands. Those genres really suck so any bands that sound like the following:
Corrosion of Conformity Down Clutch Early Grand Magus and the likes.. |
You might like Halfway to Gone. Maybe Nashville Pussy too, though I think they're a little poppier. I can do some uploads for them, if you like. I would recommend bands that seem to be associated with that whole area of music, like Crowbar, but I'm loathe to recommend something I've not heard.

Orange Goblin, good band, probably know of them already as well though. Alabama Thunderpussy maybe worth a look into as well. OH OH! LaMont! |
Oh yeah, Orange Goblin. I should really whore them more (and buy more of them).
They don't really have a southern sound, I think, but they fit in the general area, so yeah. Good band. |
Orange Goblin I already have some stuff by, I just forgot to mention :p Same with Eyehategod incase anyone is about to suggest them.
I'll check out Danzig, thanks :) I have some Crowbar stuff, and although they're classed as sludge/doom I don't really see the resembelance between them and COC/other sludge bands. Grand Magus are classed as doom as well for some reason, even though only their second album only hints at it at certain palces. This is why I hate these Genre names :) |
I think Crowbar get shoved in there because of their connection to Down.
|
Orange Goblin rock so hard, their gig at the Academy 2 got cancelled though because not enough tickets were sold. Criminal :(
They moved it to the Bar @ Academy though so everything was ok. EDIT: She Rides - Danzig Not a fave of mine, but all I can get uploaded right now. PS, Crowbar I do not like... |
Again, asking for Nevermore recommendations.
|
Some Danzig tracks would be great.
Silly Genres, I wish they would sort themselves out  Black Label Society are classed as Southern Metal as well, But I already have stuff by them. I guess stoner rock is kinda related to this sound as well so would Kyuss, being one of those bands that I've always meant to check out but never quite got around to, have a similiar-ish sound? |
Yes, and if you like them, then;
The Awesome Machine Mannhai Nebula Fu Manchu, maybe. Maybe also Hangnail, though they're only alright. EDIT: Though I said I was loathe to recommend things I'd not heard much by - Hermano. And probably almost everything else that Give Me Beer recommends. |
Again, asking for Nevermore recommendations.
The River Dragon Has Come Dreaming Neon Black The Sounds Of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel cover - no, I'm not kidding) Deconstruction Beyond Within Believe In Nothing Insignificant Narcosynthesis Enemies Of Reality (the album) had awful production, and the material wasn't up to their usual standards, so stay away from that. Dreaming Neon Black and Dead Heart In A Dead World are both definitely worth a look though. |
If I didn't really like Narcosynthesis, is there much chance I would like other things by them?
|

Thanks for the recommendations and upload :)
Change your usertitle, please.
Ah, sorry I didn't notice this earlier. I'll change it right away. |
Thanks.
Thanks.
Also, someone reported me for advertising, and i'm not sure if it is or not. Is this considored advertising? And am I too late to edit it? http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344181 |

Um.....not really. :-/ You might like their slower stuff, like Believe In Nothing. |
Best Slayer albums. Anyone help ?
|
Reign in Blood is the most well known, and flows best as an album, but I prefer Seasons In The Abyss because the individual songs are better.
But damn, Reign in Blood is fast. |

I don't think it's strictly advertising. Probably best not to do it anyway though; do you really want all the Pit rats to join? |
Can someone recommend me some Possessed?
|
Seven Churches.
|
Anyone have any recommendations from John petrucci's solo album, i have some songs and they are savage
Anyone heard anything from the ex marilyn manson guitarist John 5?,i have some of his stuff and he surprised me because he is so good. Anyone have any more stuff by him? cheers. |
^^^Jaws of life, Glasgow Kiss, Damage Control
I've heard that Amorphis is a good band. What CD should I try out first? |
I want some new music similar to ISIS/Neurosis/Pelican/Mare/Jesu and the like, anyone got any names they wanna drop?
|
The Red Sparowes, possibly. They're less heavy/metal than what you list, though (closer to post-rock)
Cult of Luna if you want to go the other way. I'm sure there are more, but my mind has gone blank. |
Ah ha, yeah I already have a couple of tracks by them off their website, really quality stuff.
Haven't checked out Cult of Luna, but will do. Are they the Italian group with a female lead singer? or do I have them mixed up with someone else? |
You might be thinking of Lacuna Coil there. They don't sound much like any of the bands you're looking at though. Cult of Luna are Swedish and, as far as I know, all-male. I can recommend their second album (The Beyond) and most of their first, self-titled, one, but I haven't heard their most recent, Salvation. Most reports I've heard indicate it's not quite as dense and oppressively heavy as, and just-as-good-as-if-not-better than, The Beyond. I should really pick it up myself actually.
|
^^^Nope, you're thinking about Lacuna Coil...
