Well, guitar is my second instrument. After piano. It took about 2 weeks to learn it, but I'd been tinkering around on the guitar for a little while, like a month or so, just hadn't gotten around to learning anything. I take my instruments very seriously, so I practice a lot. Which reminds me, I need to go practice cello now...

ilikesatriani 03-01-2005 06:32 PM

Great guitar song^^ (simple, but great)

Edit: thats to blackbird

Walrus Gumboot 03-01-2005 07:20 PM

I gave up when the time signature changed, so I think I got at least one measure down

Edit: someone said I sound like the female equivalent of John Lennon.

Seafroggys 03-01-2005 11:14 PM

Female equivelent of John Lennon? Awesome, I want to marry you (mainly because I think Johnnie is the best looking guy of all time). We'd fit perfectly.

DeusExMachina 03-02-2005 12:00 AM

Man, if my girl could sing like John Lennon... that would rock so hard.

Glitterati 03-02-2005 12:05 AM
Blackbird is such a pretty song but its a bugger to sing at the same time!

Random fact for ya
Paul became a better pianist than the others because whilst in Hamburg he was forced to play piano instead of guitar for ages because he broke his guitar and couldnt afford another one. I love the stories of the beatles in Hamburg, it all sounds really crazy and dirty, very unlike the clean cut Beatles that Epstein made them.
Yea, I love those, back when they were wild teens  . I heard they had to sneak George into clubs because he was so young.

Bass_guy333 03-02-2005 12:07 AM

The Beatles are overrated in my mind. (starts war)

Why do you say? I don't care if you think they're overrated, makes for interesting discussion. But give some reasons.

clown_phobia 03-02-2005 03:10 AM

Did you know that they had to go back to England from hamburg because George was underage?

clown_phobia 03-02-2005 03:10 AM

I personally don't think they're underrated one bit.

I can sing very much like J.L, and can speak like him, i studied his accent and singing style for ****ing ages, because i was doing a monolog for drama, and i chose to do one of J.L's speeches.

Something that continuously bloody amazes me is the song "a Day in the Life" feels so powerfull and moving, and emotional and makes me feel this awesome feeling Yet the lyrics mean Jack S'hit!
Gotta love the song, :thumb:

I dunno, they're not that great a band to begin with, but thats personal preference. They're given way too much cred for what they've done, because to say they changed rock music forever is a bit much. Sure they've influenced it, but who hasn't nowadays. Not everything that's done today has led up because of them. The only reason everyone likes the Beatles is because everyone else likes the Beatles, if you get my drift.

I'd say more but I'm on my way out.

No, they actully did change rock forever. Try reading a book on Rock history.

Oh and the Beatles were known for their songwritting not their musical talent.

Idyll 03-02-2005 09:54 AM

Thing is regardless of whatever the beatles may or may not have done. They had a massive impact on music. Before the Beatles the press considered popular music to be a passing fad of musical ineptness.
If you dont like thier music thats fair enough, its been a long time and some of it does sound dated. But their impact cannot be overstatted both musical and cultural.
Besides its a fascinating period musically, culturally and politically.

pigonthewing82 03-02-2005 03:10 PM

You know I was thinking the Beatles songs are really bass driven. I think this is because Paul was a Bass player, but wrote some of the other instrumentals. Do you guys think they would sound different if Paul was the lead gutiarist?

darkkeeper9 03-02-2005 03:40 PM
George was definitely rad, and very underlooked. His solo career is really incredible, and songs like Here Comes the Sun and Something are just incredible.
I agree, even though he did not write that meny songs in the early years he seemed to me to have the most potential, look at "while my guitar gently wheeps" its amazing, i mean the guitar solo says it all :)

darkkeeper9 03-02-2005 03:51 PM
How does everbody feel about Revolver because it hasnt been mentioned at all.

I really like it. I think Taxman has an incredible groove to it.:)[/QUO

Revolver is one of there best, i think its incredably creative, if you look at such tracks as tomorrow never know and love you to. but i think the best track is and you bird can sing its just got such a good rythem and i just can't help singing along with it

Seeing as George is a better guitarist than Paul, I think the band would've been worse if Paul played lead guitar. Although it probably would have been a good deal less bass driven, I agree. But, Harrison wrote many of the guitar solos, even if he didn't get writing credit, so I think the band worked fine just as it is.

To Bass_Guy, I actually do see your point about the whole knee jerk "I love the beatles just because" reaction. However, I think they really did have quite a large influence on modern music. But, it's really impossible to say, because its all speculation on how it would have been different if The Beatles had never been. Who knows?

I know it's against the rules, and I apologize, but I need to ask for advice from people who I know have good music taste.

Not quite sure how this happened, but my school's Battle of the Bands is at the end of the month, and each band plays 3-5 songs. I'm playing lead guitar for 3 bands. Any good advice for quick tunes? Two of the bands I've never played with before, but they want me to play lead for them. Not quite sure how I got in this mess, especially with all the school work I need to do, but any advice would be MAJORLY appreciated. Emailing me at EthanRodkin@gmail.com, or hitting me up on AIM at DeusExMachina107 would be sooooo helpful its unbelievable. Thanks in advance, and if anyone is pissed about this post... I don't blame you.

my advice is don't show up, and this has nothing to do with the Beatles, so go to the Community Thread with this.

Walrus Gumboot 03-02-2005 07:37 PM

What are the band's influences and styles? Maybe some of them know/like some songs you already know...

maybe you could er... play Beatles songs
/makes this post relevent

You know I got into a debate with my sister if the Beatles influenced Punk. I say that they did. Helter Skelter I think influenced the Ramones. Am I wrong?

Walrus Gumboot 03-02-2005 07:45 PM

I still love enteraining the thought of getting some super-trendy kid to listen to Helter Skelter and think its some edgy new band from Greenwich Villiage or something

Edit: IV'E GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!

Yea I mean too many people just think of the Beatles in their fab four days, witch is really sad because while they were a great fab four band, they were an even better rock band.

I don't think Helter Skelter influenced The Ramones. The Ramones are poppy. Helter Skelter I would think more influenced stuff like The Sex Pistols. But, I haven't heard much by The Sex Pistols, so couldn't say for positive.

Yea see thats my problem I've just started getting into Punk but don't know that much about it. I'm pretty sure the Beatles influnced it, but I don't know much about the comparisson.

DeusExMachina 03-02-2005 09:42 PM

I'm not huge into punk. I like some of the 70's and early 80's punk, and I'm a sucker for ska, but in general not a huge punk person. Against Me! are like, the best band of the 90's though. Unbelievable folk/punk fusion.

Sgt._Joker 03-04-2005 12:22 AM

to Limewired: george wrote "taxman"'s riff around the Batman theme song.
