hey, can anyone give enlightenment on Cesaro Summability and (-) Ions? I know cesaro is about a math formula/theorum thing, and (-) Ions (negative ions) involves things that make u feel good or soemrhing...help?
I do remember Danny saying something about how Ions make you feel good, and that was their "feel good" song on the album. I don't really get it though. |
All I know about negative ions i sthat they form from atoms by adding electrons to their outermost energy level in order to achieve the stability of the noble gases, thus bonding with other atoms!
|
emotive fans will really like amotion. the dvd the release a week ago. i highly recommend it. A commentary with maynard really puts some of the songs into perspective.

If you listen to Ions with headphones, it gives a strange buzzing sensation that feels like its going through your head, which feels pretty cool (Not something that can be acchived well with a stero system) Thats the only way I can find it to be a feel good song |

whoa just went to the dissectional thing at the tool website, and i remember going there a while back and it just being like a fan thing, and now its like a... i dont even know what it is, its wierd but i was screwing around with it and i clicked on this little thing in the beginning and it went to like a body thing and i went through the same thing like three times so i exited and clicked on the beggining thing again and it took me to a whole nother thing (i dont know what to call these "things") and it was a whole bunch of symbols so i clicked on one and it took me to a whole bunch of words.
and when i clicked on them they were like art or something, i dont know it was wierd but the reason i typed that was because i wanted to know if anyone knows what that stuff is.. if its some of a****s work or someone elses because some of it was pretty cool but yeah and i was wondering if the body thing actually served a purpose or not.. but yeah if you know what it is, i'd really like to know :) and sorry for all the typos i dnt really feel like going back and correcting them right now, but i know there probably alot in there |

I suggest going through their albums chronologically, listen to Opiate their EP then progress to Undertow and Aenima then Lateralus.
Id suggest some individual songs but id recommend getting their whole albums if you can, but if not OPIATE= Sweat, Hush, Part of Me, Cold & Ugly, Jerk off, and Opiate (i know the whole EP but its an extremely classy ep) UNDERTOW= Intolerance, Prison sex, Sober, Flood Undertow.. AENIMA= Stinkfist, Eulogy, Hooker with a *****, 46&2, Pu****, Aenema, Jimmy, Third eye LATERALUS= The grudge, the patient, schism, Parabol/a, Ticks & Leeches, Lateralus.. Once again i strongly reccommend you get the entire albums, their more than worht the money, but if not these should keep you interested and hopefully get you hooked to Tool (which you will). |

well i know when i first got lateralus, i really wasnt to into it.... i wasnt even into LATERALUS (the song) and thats pretty bad...very bad haha but yeah it might take you a while to get into them becasue thier music needs alot of attention you actually have to LISTEN. becasue i know i didnt get into them overnight :thumb: |
Maybe I should have posted this in the drum forum but anyway.... Peoples always tell me that Danny Carrey creates his drumbeats around geometric patterns but some peoples tell me that this is just Danny making fun of us. So, whats a geometric drum beat?

i just realized, i havent listened to Tool in about 3 weeks...mmm, i got nothing...this isnt good...
i didnt bother reading anything, but i just did, and as they say "History repeats itself" and i noticed that these topics have been repeating themselves ive seen so many lists of the same Tool songs of recomendations, and then additions, and other peoples opinions...its been done, so, i give up, maybe i'll find some good threads outside if this one...doubt it...if i dont come back, dont be surprised, but if youre still enlightened enough to hear what i have to say for god knows what reason, im on AIM alot, its the same as my username, or XThe Tourist x6, either work |
sorry, i'm only just really getting into tool, and i was wondering, what's the dvd called? salival?
|
I don't know that one, sorry...
But the Schism video was just **** awesome. So was the Parabola video. Heh |
I started listening to Pus.hit the other day.............and I thought to myself :"Why O' Why did I only start now??"
That is a great song. Like every other Tool song. Any news on a new album? |
New album coming out sometime early 2005 i think, i honestly dont know the specific date nor what it shall be called but none the less i can not wait for it to be released and for Tool to start promoting it by way of tours (Especially in Aus)
It shall be very intersting to see the transition in sound of this one compared to lateralus and how it will flow as a whole. |
Great thread. A lot of intelligent and provoking thoughts on here, although sometimes shrouded in some amounts of mind numbing comments. However, we are all here to grow so I hold no grudge towards those who still struggle to think.
Just read 'The Da Vinci Code' and as much of a 'mainstream bestseller' of a book as it is, it is a MUST read for anyone interested in the ideaology behind some of tool's (and APC's, of course) music. It sure did open my mind further to look beyond what we are presented with in order to seek the truth. (Correct me if someone has already brought it up, but there is 72 pages and I havn't had enough time to read it all yet.) This as well with all things about geometrics, codes, mathematics, lightwaves, energy, the beauty of life and all it becomes apparent that we are all interconnected in some devine way. One of many ways I can see it clearly is through mathematics. Keeping this in mind, I like to think of Tool songs as metaphorical equations, that can be dynamically applied to our lives and ourselves as beings under various situations to reveal and explain how we feel and why we feel a certain way. One of many aspects to think about. Another amazing thing is how one song might mean something to myself, might pose a completely different meaning to another person or even an utterly different meaning to maynard. I think it is great for people to post thoughts as to what they beleive a song is, but I strongly beleive one must find the meaning for themselves, well put as "thinking for yourself". Simply put, Tool is musically and mentally on another level compared to a lot of music these days. Embrace the next step, Embrace Evolution... |
Woo, hi new user  I need that book, i read parts on danny careys website about it www.dannycarey.org or something. What is the author/title of the book you read?
Geometric drumbeats - I expect this is relating to the fact that Carey uses the fibbonacci sequence in the song lateralus. This sequence is pleasing to the ear much like the golden ratio is pleasing to the eye. You can read up on it in the infamous tool FAQ on www.toolshed.down.net Check the forum there also, there are some geniuses on there with quite astonishing thesis'. /Realises he looks foolish 'cause he cannot spell the plural form of genius. |
Has anyone here heard Breaking Benjamin's cover of Ænema? I think it's pretty d.amn good. I can send it to you if you like. Just need your email.

re knife_prty and clearvision's book talk:
on the tool reading list, there's "holy blood and the holy grail" which is a non-fiction that touches on a lot of theories fictionalised in dan brown's book. To the point that the publishers of 'holy blood...' are suing those of 'the da vinci code' for plagarism... but I don't mean to take away from the dan brown book, i've now read it and think its great, and should open up lots of people to theories they may not otherwise have come across.. However if you're after the background to a lot of toolish theories in the same words that tool themselves read, don't go past "holy blood..." its a good read, apart from anything else. Also just finished "nothing in this book is true but its exactly the way things are" by bob frissell....it was amazing, i recommend it so strongly, even a complete cynic like me could not resist its charms... |
Whoa a cover of Aenema! I love that song, I can't see someone making the song sound better in anyway, but im hoping it does!
As you can see im a new user, so hi everyone  ! Im a huge Tool fan and you guys just blow me away with how much you know. I have one question though. Im really into Tool and all and am always listing to it but, i really want some new music to listen to that is similar to Tool just to fill in before the next CD comes out. I have all the APC CD's so don't say them and the new APC albem eMOTIVe didnt do anything for me  i was a bit let down to tell you the truth. SO is there any suggestions? |
I've come to realize over time that no one element of either Tool or APC makes the band what it is. All too often in popular music, the singer is featured along with maybe one of the musicians (lead guitar?) in order to provide a simple, marketable face value that can only be praised as 'catchy'. It becomes a cycle, as the newest bands imitate the wildly popular bands who have presented that simple money-oriented music. In both Tool and APC, you never get that feeling. Nobody is 'featured'. Often Tool or APC fans love anything each separate musician does, even with other groups. That's a pretty unique trait for bands today.
Your thoughts? |
Yeah I know what you mean. Im just really tired of listening to the crap rock that is continuosly played by our radio stations, bands like Simple plan and Yellow Card. All the teenie boopers listen to them and think that they are hard rock! All i can say to them is go take your poppy punk **** somewhere else! I guess thats what happens when you are a fan of bands like tool.
Oh plus i would love to know where you can listen to that cover song of Aenima! |
