Hangar 18 is okay, but when you compare it to the rest of RIP, there's far superior songs. Take No Prisoners? Holy Wars?

I think I should just win the debate by saying Sheehan > all. And I would be right ;)
Hey , I got a question. I was at circuit city the otherday and i saw this DVD "METALLICA: a yeah and a half in the Life of." And it was weird cause it the logo all in the block letters like from LOAD/ReLOAD but said and looked like like it was all from the black-era...cause James still had the hair and everything. And if u have seen it or know of it whats it like? Any good?
If you are a tru Metallica fan, and are interested in seeing them in the studio , back stage, etc yes it is a must have!

hetfieldfan86 07-04-2005 03:27 PM

So its lots behind the scenes stuff? Them jammin and screwin around and stuff? Sounds fun. I'll definitely have to pick it up next chance i get. Thanx for the tip!
Shredding Solo - Anything off of Killing Is My Business.

Marty doesn't need to shred when he can pull off sweep arpeggios at 160 BPM. Ever heard 'Hangar 18'? There's 11 solos in that song that are all amazing.

Megadeth is a much more talented band instrument wise but with song writing its all down to opinion.
No. How technically talented a badnd are has nothing to do with opinion.
Apart from people possiby exaggerating a band's technical talent because they are a fan.

hetfieldfan86 07-04-2005 04:00 PM

I gotta diasagree w/ u there Digital Love....cause there so many different soloing techniques and just techniques in general. With the exception of bands that suck compared to truly gr8 bands, it kinda does come down to opinion. Since people have such varying tastes and likes n what not some people just think certain things sound technicially better, when in fact it might not be any harder technically speaking

Metallica sales = 90 million sold ww

Let the records show for them selves.
And what exactly is that meant to prove?
Man I'm not here to argue who is more technical in their music. It's all about style and creativity. In MY OPINION Metallica surpasses MegaDeth and according to the majority of the record-buying consumers they do(the sales charts show that). but my point earlier is that it is all a matter of opinion. what I think sounds technical may not to you. To each his own. I like a few megadeth songs, but, I'm glad they broke up and not Metallica.

hetfieldfan86 07-04-2005 04:10 PM

I see sooo much Megadeth goin down in this forum...maybe its cause the 2 bands kinda used to be rivals. and that Mustaine was in there in the beginning(don't tell me stuff like that like i don't know) but i'm just curious. Any ZAKK Wylde fans here? or better yet, u guys know if theres like BLS thread or Wylde or somethin? Cause if u wanna talk about underrated, sure u guys all prolly give him the respect he deserves. But Rolling had a list almost 2 yrs back supposed to be 100 best guitarist. and guess who was up there at #11? none other than Kirk Hammett, thats right....those guys get atleast some things right...but they had EVH down at 70?!! what?!!!.....anyway, i just feel like if u guys are gonna keep bringin up Mustaine and Freidman thought i might mention my personal favorite lead guitarist, who by the way i think is probably the best Metal guitarist ever....excpet for like Dimebag, and Randy Rhoads...w/ EVH in the somewhere.

Metallica are more popular than 'Deth. That is down to opinions.
But the technical talent of a band is not because technicallity can actually be measured.

Ya know this is gettin kinda stupid....just too u know. Technical, ...seriously lets get back to ROCK!!!!!!......METALLICA ROCKS! MEGADETH ROCKS!!... some us think Mega is better, more of us think 'Tallica is better.....now back to the rock and METAL!!!......
any of u guys know when Metallica's next release is due out? I've heard most likely '06....maybe even like next spring..what do u headbangers think its gonna sound like?? ideas??

I am willing to bet the majority of the people buying those albums have either not heard a Megadeth song, or have not heard them at all.

Well, Megadeth is still touring on gigantour, so they haven't officialy broken up. Also, incase you didn't notice, Megadeth can still write and release good material, unlike Metallica. Compare The System Has Failed to St. Anger.

/Thread regulars get pissed

hetfieldfan86 07-04-2005 04:46 PM

Personally, i think its gonna be good...maybe really good. I mean if u liked No Leaf Clover and all that kinda big epicy sounding stuff. Even though James is sober and everything now....i have a feeling thats the direction he was goin w/ things. And if were lucky maybe we'll hear some solos from Kirk. Regardless of everything else we know its gonna be decent cause we got Rob on board.

Immortalsoul 07-04-2005 05:08 PM
I am willing to bet the majority of the people buying those albums have either not heard a Megadeth song, or have not heard them at all.

Yeah that could be true. and still further proves my point. they haven't heard of them because they are not as popular. Hey I like a few MegaDeth albums. I personally am not blown away by them. I hear Metallica weather it be from KEA or StAnger, and it just takes me. and as a guitar player myself, I prefer kirk's playing to Friedman's. simple as that. I am not trying to bash MegaDeth or their fans. I was just replying to an ignorant comment about how Megadeth's playing is more technical. The sales comparison may have been a little over the edge. My point the whole time was that is is all a matter of opinion.

It IS more technical, and by technical I basically mean it takes more skill. The amount of skill a person has is not opinion its a fact. Thats like saying "In my opinion the guy from Blink 182 is better then Yngwie Malmsteen". You may like the Blink 182 guys stuff better but it doesn't mean he has more skill than Yngwie.

How does it take more skill??? I have been playing guitar for a while now. I don't get it. it's pretty much the same style. there are differences, yes, but they are that differences not more or less skilled.

Listen to Justice. it is a pretty technical album. the guitar work is great and I just don't see Mustaine or Friedman playing as well. (at least not in MegaDeth). To be honest They are all great musicians. All successfull at what they do. I wish them all the best, but, my opinion still stands that Musicly and lyricly Metallica is the superior of the two. This is once again not a fact but my OPINION. If you don't agree, fine. You are entitled to your opinions as I am entitled to mine.

But hey this is a metallica thread right? well lets talk Metallica then and all be friends :amaze:
This is getting a little outta hand here

Chu 07-04-2005 07:10 PM

I don't know why everyone thinks Hangar 18's so good, Five Magics pwns.
If you want awesome guitar, anything from So far, So Good... So What!
Nearly every song on that album has a killer riff that's comparable to anything Metallica has done, in my opinion.
If you want emotion, Mustaine can show emotion in songs like "A Tout Le Monde" just listen to the main solo, and the outro solo.

I'm sure there are more songs, but I don't have ALL Megadeth albums, yet

Megadeth is alot more technical then Metallica.
We shouldn't even have to argue it, it's a known fact.

Taste_My_Scythe 07-04-2005 07:17 PM

I'm sure this has been said a million times, but I think Metallica's older stuff is the best. I own Ride the Lightning and the black album; I'm still kicking myself for not getting Master of Puppets when I had the chance. I despise the new songs and new album.

Joe 07-04-2005 10:50 PM

Yes, it's been said a lot.

The next thing you are doing is going to the store and buying Master of Puppets. Do not even BREATHE until you go buy it.

Hanger 18 is good, but the number of solos doesn't matter. If they were all like minute-2 minute long solos, then I'd really think it was something special, but Megadeth has better songs.

Technically for guitar and drums, it is by far the best Metallica album. I haven't heard a better group of songs that take that much skill out of Megadeth or Metallica (you notice I excluded Dream Theater because those guys kick everyone's ass when it comes to technical skill)

Ok now, enough Megadeth. It's the Metallica forum. (even though I'm off to bed, g'night mxers  )

HAPPY JULY 4TH!!!

Blasting metallica to crazy fireworks

Chu 07-05-2005 12:20 AM

I'm so glad to see Metallica fans appreciate Megadeth (Especially gocaps).

xtreme_skatah 07-05-2005 12:38 AM

Anyone know why Metallica didn't play in Live 8.

Chu 07-05-2005 12:59 AM

Because Metallica's all about money?

On a serious note, especially to gocaps, or any other guitarists here, can you guys play Orion?
I can play it completely (I can do parts of the solos, but all rhythm), just wondering if anyone else can?

JonG 07-05-2005 01:01 AM

I can. I can play all rhythm and lead.

vashts80 07-05-2005 01:16 AM

I am willing to bet that if you give Marty Friedman a few hours, he'll be able to play the entire AJFA album, rhythm and lead. Even now, when he's turned from thrash guitarist to j-pop guitarist.

JonG 07-05-2005 01:27 AM

Your point? Nobody cares.

How long have you been playing guitar?

JonG 07-05-2005 01:45 AM

About a year now. About 7 minutes, I start getting sloppy. I haven't fine tuned that part yet :\

thebigyin 07-05-2005 07:19 AM

I happen to be, as well as a Metallica and Dream Theater fan, to a lesser extent a Sum 41 fan.

But don't kill me yet.

Just wanted to ask if anybody else here thought Sum 41's "The Bitter End" was a complete ripoff of both "Throught The Never" and "Battery"? I certainly do, and have done since the first time I heard the song.

Here's a particularly funny (and yet frighteningly accurate) site for you all:

http://www.sum-ripoff.tk/

RustedPieces 07-05-2005 09:21 AM

Oh yeah I've been to that site, but even before I went there I heard that song and I thought it was a rip-off of battery. The solos sound very alike if I can remember correctly.

EDIT: WOW!! What a rip-off of battery!!

Joe 07-05-2005 11:54 AM

I can play the first few minutes of it. I've looked through several tabs, never memorized it but I can play along if I'm listening to it.
EDIT: WOW!! What a rip-off of battery!!
TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! unbelievable
Anyone know why Metallica didn't play in Live 8.
I don't think this is the kind of cause that people would want heavy metal playing. They might have done it if it was for something else...

Most of the regulars in here like and/or respect Megadeth.

About the Sum41 thing, they've admitted countless times that they used some of there favorite songs by other bands in "Chuck". They talk about it like it's a tribute kinda.

You gotta love those guys though, the Metallica Icon performance they did was outstanding.

Would if I could, Joe. I'm saving for a new guitar. :upset: No cds until I have the guitar in my hands.

Agitator01 07-05-2005 03:02 PM

To be truthfull I was always a metallica fan, about 1 month ago I bought Megadeth - A world needs a hero, just to see what the guys were all about... a week later I bought 5 more albums then the next day I bought youthanasia, one of those 5 albums was a double disk live album called ''rude awakening''

To be honest. I LOVE metallica, I LOVE megadeth but in all due respect as far as live goes Metallica have that really hard kick.. When mustain was singing i noticed alot of lazy singing, not even saying the words correctly... I also watched a video of them playing ''Peace sells'' on tv yesterday.. they just don't have the get up and go, the solos were good but they could never blow Hammett away...

below I have stated reasons as to why I have chosen metallica as best live band..

Jaymez hetfield is probably one of the best frontmen in the history of metal... He can really get a crowd going and his onstage moves and humour amuse me.

Kirk: He appears to be alot faster, his guitar sounds good all the time also (Down to the guys in the sound truck I know)

Jaymes: Has a really awesome clean voice... my favourite vocalist..

Lars: I think he can do better drum solo's, hes more certainly a better drummer... BUT, this is a big BUT, I think megadeth would take the lead for more creativity in drumming, also better drumming in tracks.. He is just more skillfull at playing drums in a band.
