At least you still have your dad, kid.

\m/Pete\m/ 02-14-2005 10:22 PM

hmm...not really a kid, but it would be nice if I could have a little help from him with lets say college, some food maybe, or maybe just a call too would be nice

so i might as not even have a dad

Cain 02-14-2005 10:23 PM
you got guitar pro 4?
Oh, haha, I was sort of kidding...I was gonna just say tab it out. Like this:

At least you've got the chance to make amends.

Hmm, yeah, follows a basic rock progression. The hammers and pulls add a twist, I'd like to think. But meh, I don't know where to take it from there.

Depends on what style of music. What emotion you are going for in the song. That sort of thing.

Yes, the H/P part was nice. I suck at making up cool riffs. That's why I choose to play ones that some other chap already put the work into.

I have tons of cool rock riffs in C#m lying around...I just need to assemble them someday. All of them are your heavy-distorted melodic rock type thing, though. I just like that key...cool chords are possible in that key.

Cain 02-14-2005 10:32 PM

Hey! I knew my menu bar looked shorter...where's the search feature?

\m/Pete\m/ 02-14-2005 10:32 PM

I just played that riff and i too agree about the h/p thing...nicely done, sounds cool

Meh riff based music is so bleh to me, but I'm big on emotion hehe. For instance:

BTW, I don't know if your avatars look static-y to you, cj and emo, but if you want to fix them just go into User CP and reset your avatar with the picture you had.

It is. A work in progress, about 1 1/2 tracks of my concept album. It seems quite a compliment for you to suggest that it might be well known though :)

Burt deleted a few threads. Some avatars were damaged in the database breakage, people need to reload them.

Steerpike 02-14-2005 10:43 PM

Eh, I'm still screwing around with my own stuff. MY most recent riff is kind of Blackmore-esque with a Baroque feel and heavy use of double-stops and a little bit of discord.

I'm bad at dissonance right now, most people comment on it when I use it now, but I'm working on it.

Do we ourselves have to reload them, or do we leave it to the mods???

Hey no problem man. I'm on your wavelength when it comes to that stuff, generally: I love ambience and tend to write a whole lot of orchestrations and different parts. Actually for my senior project, and I know this sounds dorky, but I wrote a concept instrumental album that's like progressive rock/metal in spots and more new-agey in others, based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. My latest efforts have been in transcribing it on my Finale notation program. It's just that C#m seems to yield more radio-friendly stuff than other keys, hence the rock riffs: it's not a particularly dark key, more of a poppy one.

You reload it. Assuming you kept the original picture file it shouldn't be too difficult.

That's cool. I save my dissonance for my metal stuff, generally: I'm not very inclined to break too many theory rules when I'm playing melodically, generally speaking. :) But I do occaisionally. It honestly depends on what kind of music I'm playing.

I deleted my avatar a long time ago, and it's gonna be hard to find it again, I loved this avatar :upset:

\m/Pete\m/ 02-14-2005 10:49 PM

This is one my friend and i made up. Not much to it but i sounds cool

Standard E, C, A, etc (however you want) tuning..played mainly on 6th and 5th strings

2--3*--22-22-~---2--3*--22-22----2---2--3*--22-22--5\7-7---7---5-
0--3*--00-00-3---0--3*--00-00-2-3-3--0--3*--00-00--3\5-5-0-5-0-3-0-0-

--5-
0-3-0-0

and then repeat...now to clear things up

*natural harmonics
~vibrato (also sorta bend it)
\slide into (dont pick the 1st 5\7 chord)
the opens are palm muted as well as the 0\2's that are close together

and those arent 22's either and i fixed that part (lower one) so it doesnt look as messed as it did when i first posted

Ah, finale was my old program, but I like tabit because it has drums. That one I sent was actually in Dm oddly enough :)

Really I just get something in my head and play all the instruments one note at a time until it goes from head to paper, because I'm really particular about capturing emotion in music, and I capture the emotion in my head first.

Thanks much. The lyrics really help, especially with the gunshot that seems sort of random as presented. The music is really an extension of the lyrics, if that makes sense.

My finale does have drums. Weird. But the stuff I'm coming up with is really good, if I say so myself. I would love to record it someday.

I usually go for emotion too, although sometimes a desire to be stereotypically badass does inform my compositions. It usually turns out ok though.

God, I love music. That's really all there is to it. I love writing it, I love having the ability on my instrument to play what I want and what I hear. It's such a joy for me.

EDIT: I tried to rep you for that awesome song, zepfan, but I need to spread around. Sorry...I'll get it to you soon.

Ah see, unfortunately I can't compose a lot of what I play because I don't play my instruments that well. I can play it slowly and compose, but I can not always play what I write at tempo unfortunately. You should put up one of your compositions at some point.

That's pretty cool, man. Sounds like a Breaking Benjamin riff or something with those harmonics and emphasis on the lower strings. With a good drum beat that riff would probably be even extra cool. :thumb:

That would indeed be cool. How would I do that though?

BTW, the best thing about notation programs to me is you can write stuff you can't neccesarily play. I have a ton of fun writing cool drum beats especially.

In fact, if you specify a tempo/style of music/timing issues I could mix it with some drums in midi...I do this sort of thing for fun :)

In the program I use, there is an "Export to MIDI" option?

Yeah, I can play drums decently well, but some of the stuff I put in is actually very technical, and I would need a very good drummer to do it :-/
