Bukowski 04-05-2008 12:34 PM

Now I need to figure out accommodation near the one I've chosen.

pixiesfanyo 04-05-2008 12:35 PM

Neoteric 04-05-2008 12:37 PM

Where'd you apply and where do you plan to go? I was getting excited because the first 3 letters I got were all acceptances with partial scholarships, but then the last two, UC Santa Cruz and Berkeley shot me down. Whatevs.

A Dead Modernist 04-05-2008 01:21 PM

I think I'm going to school for film.

Eliminator 04-05-2008 01:25 PM

ATM 04-05-2008 01:25 PM

Come to University of Maryland and you can hang out with me.

Liebensaft 04-05-2008 01:26 PM

I applied to Glasgow, Strathclyde, St. Andrews, Edinburgh and Cardiff (all in the UK). Decided to go to Glasgow Uni, wanted to stay near Glasgow in the end, and that's the best Uni in the city. It's in a good part of town, not too far from the main gig venues, good student union, and the faculty I'm gonna be in has a great rep.

I think it's comparitively easier to get into one of the top universities in the UK than in the US. But, I'm not too sure about that. Congrats on getting in to yours :chug:

pixiesfanyo 04-05-2008 01:33 PM

19.

Flesh for Fantasy and Eyes Without a Face should be how all Billy Idol songs besides Rebel Yell should sound.

Cool stuff. I'm pretty uneducated on the subject of the university system in the UK, but there is a ridiculous amount of competition for spots at top schools in the U.S. Berkeley, for example, had almost 50,000 applicants and accepted about 4,000. I'm pretty sure academic merit doesn't even matter because everyone who applies there is an all-star or gets accepted because of their ethnic/socio-economic background.

Zmev 04-05-2008 02:00 PM

Uh California abolished Affirmative Action you know.

niobium 04-05-2008 02:05 PM

i have this 1800 research paper i feel no motivation toward in expos
i could drop the class. i took it really for no reason. it goes towards nothing i have, and i'm still fulltime if i'm not in it
th eonly thing stopping me is there's a little over a month left in class and i've already done 2 of 4 papers. that would have been a waste. plus the whole failed class thing doesn't look good

i really don't want to do this paper.

niobium 04-05-2008 02:10 PM
Chapter 1. How to Write an A+ Research Paper

This Chapter outlines the logical steps to writing a good research paper. To achieve supreme excellence or perfection in anything you do, you need more than just the knowledge. Like the Olympic athlete aiming for the gold medal, you must have a positive attitude and the belief that you have the ability to achieve it. That is the real start to writing an A+ research paper.
not happening
Uh California abolished Affirmative Action you know.
really?

We watched this movie in my sociology class that followed these 7 or so kids from different walks of life as they applied to and anticipated their admission or rejection by Berkeley. It was from like 5 years ago I think, and it was talking about how it was required by law for CA schools to accept at least 50% of applicants based on academic records alone, but they could consider "other factors" for the other half of the class, and they showed a room full of application reviewers clearly considering those other factors.

My teacher also mentioned lawsuits people filed against universities because they felt affirmative action was responsible for their rejection and said each person lost their case.

Zmev 04-05-2008 02:18 PM

UC Berk just has a lot of asians. If you're looking into going to the UC system you should try Santa Cruz (where I might be in a year) and Santa Barbara.

Liebensaft 04-05-2008 02:39 PM

I didn't get into Santa Cruz, and didn't apply to Santa Barbara. I got into Davis though. I didn't apply to Santa Barbara because I would have chosen any of the three I applied to over it. All of the UC campuses have a pretty big Asian population.

dei 04-05-2008 02:44 PM

UCSB is lame.
I never dance at shows because dancing is stupid.
dei 04-05-2008 02:53 PM

perriwinkle 04-05-2008 03:10 PM

dei i am the guy dancing in front of you that steps on your feet every once in a while

Liebensaft 04-05-2008 04:24 PM

lol

People who refuse to dance at shows are usually more self-conscious than anything and don't wanna look goofy, but if they paused for a moment to realize that they wouldn't look stupid because everyone else is doing it too, then they could increase their fun potential approximately 86%.

YDload 04-05-2008 04:44 PM

im really tall so people notice when i dance

guess i'll just have to get better at it! well im going to Minus th Bear next week and thats the first show i will have gone to where the band is actually danceable. so we shall see...

pulseczar 04-05-2008 04:45 PM

dei you need to loosen up. start grinding chicks at indie shows and be like "i could do this all dei babei"

dei 04-05-2008 04:56 PM

See, but not everyone dances at these shows I go to. It's usually only like two chicks or two dudes and they hit people with their elbows and then everyone is like, I'm going to do what that guy is doing and then you just have a room of people looking like this
