Because you don't have to work so hard to play double bass, that's why.
Replying on an age old topic here...why don't you have to work as hard? I think it'd be harder to pull off a 3-4 min song with double kicking galore as both of your legs need to be strong to do it (otherwise your leg burns) rather than just one.

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 05:49 AM

i can't even double bass at all
or single bass for that matter

On a completely different note who's better - Rob or Jason

Six Foot Revolver 03-26-2005 06:29 AM

Me thinks Jason because I think the main reason St. Anger wasn't as good was because Rob has changed the music.

munky_magik 03-26-2005 06:32 AM

Rob didn't write a single note on St. Anger.

blue3 03-26-2005 06:39 AM

I like Jason more..

ThrashMaster27 03-26-2005 06:40 AM

Yeah it was Bob Rock on Bass for St. Wanker, not Rob.

Six Foot Revolver 03-26-2005 06:42 AM

Oh. Shows how much I know :upset:

Chu 03-26-2005 07:38 AM

And the bass on St. Anger was actually pretty good, at least compared to anything they let Jason do.

ThrashMaster27 03-26-2005 07:40 AM
And the bass on St. Anger was actually pretty good, at least compared to anything they let Jason do.
Yeah, "Let Jason do".

Sadly they didn't let him do more. Could have turned out rather nice.

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 08:09 AM

Jason has a better sound than Rob, I think. And Jason used to windmill headbang.

Rob is taking Metallica's music away from that St. Anger $hite.

Six Foot Revolver 03-26-2005 08:28 AM

Cliff > Jason at windmill headbanging

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 08:40 AM

it's harder to find live shows of cliff.

Chu 03-26-2005 08:59 AM
Yeah, "Let Jason do".

Yeah, they should have let him experiment.
He is an amazing bassist, and his skills were definately not shown while he was in Metallica.

On another note, **** you metalcritter666.

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 09:03 AM

respect my opinions, chu.
lets all agree to this though - bob rock was the worst.
(played bass and CO-WROTE st. anger

Chu 03-26-2005 09:19 AM

He did co-write St. Anger. But it wasn't that bad, and his bass playing is better then I thought it would be..

I don't actually think St. Anger's that bad, and when people say that it is/was ****, it pisses me off, I'm sorry.

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 09:24 AM

it is by far the worst metallica album because it sounds horrible and it's too long, but it's still better than a lot of the other mainstream stuff out there.

I agree it's too long, but as I have said before, in my opinion it is their best work since Master of Puppets.

I think it could do with a remaster though, just fix Lars' drums' sound and retune to standard EADGBe. Maybe even try Rob on bass with some wicked pedals too.

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 09:38 AM

I don't think standard tuning would be good but the songs were wrote in a drop tuning. Drop C# sounds very good, very thrashy. But yes, Lars snare drum sounds horrible and Rob on bass would be good. The only reason there aren't any guitar solos is because Kirk didn't like the sound of them in the Drop C key. I think that's a really good idea but they're probably going to do that for the next album which should be out this time next year, actually.
Do you use pedals?

metallica never use standard tuning anyway, always Eb since 1995.

Eb since '95 and what, one album since then :p
They had standard tuning on the first few albums, and they ****en dominated.
Since then, they've become boring though so..
But, I didn't miss Kirk's solos anyway, as far I was concerned, his solos have turned to **** recently anyway.
I don't use pedals, but Cliff's work with pedals in the early days was amazing.
*And Jason had some cool Live solos with pedals..

Congratlutaions on 50 posts.

there is one on www.launch.com ...its a kickass live video of metal militia live

metalcritter666 03-26-2005 10:07 AM

Every live show they tune to either Eb with some of the songs tuned further down like St. Anger and Seek and Destroy. The same applies for Load/Reload, Garage, Inc. and S&M.

but yes, the first five were pretty much all in standard

Yeah, I know there's a few, but there are so much more with Jason e.g Live $hit
