Yoshimi is purely awful. The Soft Bulletin and Mystics are worse. Light-hearted music is cool, but that shit is so light-hearted it's anorexic. It's cute/twee in a sickeningly over the top way, and it's hard to listen to.
There are only a few songs that qualify for that on Yoshimi. The other ones out number those for great justice. |

Transmissions and Hit to Death were light-hearted, but with the right amount of wit and dark humor mixed in. Yoshimi is pure unadulterated rainbow Richard Simmons crap.
Hahaha Man, I hate the Flaming Lips |
I don't see how The Soft Bulletin is cute/twee.
I don't see how The Soft Bulletin is cute/twee.
it is in many places. like the way Race for the Prize sounds like, if it were instrumental, it could be used in a disney movie. and lots of the lyrics have a very cartoonish feel. i dig that though, it's a good change from so much bitterness. but then, of course, after too much of that i need to go back to the bitter stuff to balance it out again. |
http://www.ihearthiroshima.com
You can at least hear, if not download their first EP from there. You used to be able to download it, but I'm not sure if you can anymore now that they've released it through a record label. Their myspace has some songs too. I'm listening to Red House Painters. Mad props to Nacho and asymm for getting me into him.
Cool thanks mate. I've heard all the mp3s they have on there, they're mad good. Unfortunately none of them are available for download but thanks for the link anyway. RHP are amazing as well. Depressing sometimes but pure amazing. |
Sleep Comes Down seems like a neat band, anyone here know more about them/like them?
|
Willie Dixon - I Am The Blues - Dug this one out today. Man this old boy can howl.
|
Gotye - Like Drawing Blood
Hmmm. I'm not sure if I like this or not yet. It's some German guy who lives in Australia now or something. The music is sort of electronic with strings and crap and all sorts of different percussion. And the guy has a pretty decent voice. I noticed a few good tracks, but some others made me cringe a little. For some reason it intrigues me. |
EiTS - The Rescue
Belle & Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Waitress |
All right, now I have The Dillinger Escape Plan's cover of Melvins' "Honey Bucket." Pretty good, but I have no idea who the vocalist is. Doesn't sound like Greg or Dimitri, what??
|
I like new Flaming Lips and I like oldish (Transmissions, Hit To Death, Clouds Taste Metallic) Flaming Lips more.
|
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
This is a lot better then i expected. |
Dug some John Cale and the new Mouse on Mars, the latter which came in the mail today. Both are pretty good, starting to love Cale's Fear. More than I can say for most of his other albums, which are nice but nothing especially good to me. Mouse on Mars is called Varcharz, comes out on Ipecac in Sept. I guess. If you like their stuff, you'll dig this one, slightly glitch electronic/ambient/etc.
Also, got my hands on a leak of The Shining. "E = MC^2" is the shit. If you didn't feel Donuts because it was all instrumentals, there's a good chance you'll dig this one. |
Harry and the Potters - And The Power Of Love
Cee-Lo - Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections Danger Mouse & Jemini - Conceited Bastard |
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove |
Joan of Arc - Portable Model of Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc - How Memory Works Bad Brains - Rock For Light |
Joan of Arc - How Memory Works
I got this today and I must say that I was intrigued. |
Cee-Lo - Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections
What's that like? Wire - Pink Flag Television - Marquee Moon Gang of Four - Entertainment! Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight Mmmmm, delicious. Not a weak spot throughout any of those. |
Thursday - A City By The Light Divided
Madlib - Shades of Blue These Arms are Snakes - Easter |
The Jesus Lizard - Liar, Down and Goat
Shellac - 1000 Hurts |

Before the weight of the world crushed your spirits? |
It's okay.
you remind me of me!
Thanks I guess. |
I'm actually really enjoying this Spit For Athena album upon second listen. Damn.
|
What's that like?
It's the better of the two Cee-Lo albums. Definantly worth checking out. |
www.myspace.com/wovenhandmosaic
Woven Hand is so awesome. Intense, dramatic folk music. Listen to "Winter Shaker" and see if that's not one of the best things you'll hear all year.
Okay I'll give it a listen. Starts out sounding a little like Tool's "Reflection" actually. Although it's much more "Native American" sounding. Yes, I can see why this band would be a big deal. Their music is very epic and "important" sounding. Good choice nacho. |
http://myspace.com/mikamyspace
I heard "Grace Kelly" on the radio; I think this is one of the most interesting/out-there pop songs in recent memory. If it becomes a hit, it'll probably open doors for more interesting stuff.
i like it. a little too "sassy" for my tastes, but still good. |
Woven Hand is so awesome.
Very. I've had Consider the Birds for some time now, and I always bust it out when I'm in the mood for that. I'll have to listen to the new stuff sometime. As for today's diggage: Wires on Fire Refused JR Ewing Rocket From the Crypt The Bronx "Mouth Money" and "Three Dead Sisters" are two of the best songs I've heard all year. |
The Coffin Daggers - S/T
Anyone like this? Kinda.....psychedelic...surf...stuff. Downloaded this the other day, it's pretty cool. |
