A year or so ago when I saw pictures of David Johansen of the New York Dolls, I thought he looked familiar. Now, having just watched an episode of Pete & Pete in which he plays a forest ranger, I know why.
He was also Buster Poindexter, the lounge singer dude who had a minor hit with that song "Me soul on fire feeling hot hot hot" etc.

br3ad_man 01-28-2006 04:56 PM

I've got work today for the first time in like two weeks. I actually don't mind my job now, but I think I need one where I can get like 8-10 hours a week. Maybe if I could work 4 hours one or two school nights a week and one night of the weekend. I'll have to start applying around when my current work gets their employee situation worked out.

I always laugh when I hear that song because it's just ridiculous.

My dad adopted a kitten today. I suggested the names Mogwai, Danzig, and Morrissey, all of which were shot down :(

Zappa 01-28-2006 05:37 PM

Went to a record sale at the mall today. Greeeat finds:

Duke Ellington - Ellington Uptown
Duke Ellington - ...And His Mother Called Him Bill
Oscar Peterson - Plays the Cole Porter Songbook

The latter two I've been looking for on soulseek for a while, to no avail.

Exciting to the max.

YDload 01-28-2006 08:14 PM

we used to have a cat named Gizmo, named after the mogwai in Gremlins :)

Zmev 01-28-2006 08:58 PM

All my cats have been named kitty, except for baby.

With that, kittys sleeping on my bed and i dunno where kitty is.

Tangy zizzle 01-29-2006 01:28 AM

I just catalogued all my vinyl's. It was boring as heeellllll.

Glitterati 01-29-2006 01:35 AM

Ugh, change of plans tonight. The girl I was going to ask out tonight couldn't come tonight, but I heard pretty much just as I was leaving, and had told other people I would be there. She was the only reason I was going, and the bands all sucked hardcore.

Rant++

Zmev 01-29-2006 03:52 AM

Thats prettty lame.

Went to Winter Formal, but not with my girlfriend. Eventually we went back to my house, which led us back to my room, which led to us on my bed.

I didnt cheat.

Sucks when people do that. I went to a gig once by myself because I thought a friend was coming. Turns out he didn't and I had to stand through five hardcore bands by myself. Didn't get home until 12:30 either. Stupid.

Oh joy.

br3ad_man 01-29-2006 05:40 AM

How many vinyls do you have Tangy?

I only have 26 and none of them are even Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I'm so mainstream.

How noble of you.

My school's semi-formal dance is coming up in a few weeks. I'm not sure if I want to go. On one hand, I'll be getting out of the house for a night, but one the other hand, if I go, I'll probably just stand around by myself all night.

Also, you have to wear black pants and a white button shirt, which I don't have.

Teenage angst++

I'm white and pretty rich and I love listening to The Last Poets and I think they're right on. I'm trying to figure out what kinds of social conditions caused that to be the case.

pikester 01-29-2006 03:35 PM

So I went to seattle yesterday, saw Maynard Ferguson Band, saw one of the Blood Brothers outside the Showbox, (where they were playing), had some excellent Mexican Food, and had a contest to see who could yell "Go Steelers!" the loudest without getting shot.

And then drove home for 3 bloody hours.

Hey, can I have a big avatar? I just thought I'd ask.

RouteOne 01-29-2006 04:54 PM

I basically just shit my pants listening to "greet death" by Explosions in the sky.

The lullerah or whatever makes me chuckle.

Go to the one in sf, its in the hippie section so they're basically an extra.

xizoesira 01-29-2006 07:23 PM

I've heard good things about the SF store. I'll go there this year if I go up to Oregon or Washington as I might.

I'm tempted to post the lyrics to a Proclaimers song, but I can use self control.

ATM 01-29-2006 10:14 PM

hahah how did I not think about that

YDload 01-29-2006 11:02 PM

I drove 127 miles, so no song for me :(

But I did listen to a shitload of songs on my iPod. They're all at different volumes of course, so I had to fiddle with the volume knob constantly between songs, to make sure I wasn't going to be blasted with really loud music. But I forgot to turn it down after a rather soft song which I had boosted, so the next thing I heard was the opening of Dillinger Escape Plan's "Baby's First Coffin."

...DEAR GOD! PROTECT US! COME ON

yikes :(

Glitterati 01-29-2006 11:06 PM

Holy crap  If I heard that song blasted at top volume, I'd probably swerve off the road.
