Then I go Clapton because there's no way you could say Randolph is better than Cream.
Yep Cream is pretty hard to beat.

RockAndRoll 02-07-2005 04:34 PM

heh, exactly! you guys should listen to randolph though he's good.

magicbus 02-07-2005 04:37 PM
heh, exactly! you guys should listen to randolph though he's good.
I listen to him on occasion, I don't own anything though. There's just never enough money when I go shopping :(

Broken Arrow 02-07-2005 04:39 PM

I only heard bootlegs and a song Badmoon sent me.

Six Foot Revolver 02-07-2005 04:42 PM

Please don't beat me with a stick for this one but who is Randolph?

jpj 02-07-2005 04:44 PM
Please don't beat me with a stick for this one but who is Randolph?
Robert Randolph, he's a black pedal steel (is that the right term?) guitarist and is damn good.

Jam2Me 02-07-2005 04:47 PM

I'm just wondering but does it seem that people like the blues at the pinnacle of their music-liking careers? My uncle has seen more shows than anyone I know, countless famous classic rock bands, everything from funk to tex-mex rock, and his music of choice is the blues. Most of our favorite bands were influenced by various blues artists (or stole their work *cheap shot at LZ*) so what do you guys think?

Six Foot Revolver 02-07-2005 04:47 PM

Oh, thanks for that

I like the blues probably the most out of the different genres.

magicbus 02-07-2005 04:49 PM

See you got the link :thumb:

And I love blues.

Broken Arrow 02-07-2005 04:49 PM

I really like the blues.

thickasabrick 02-07-2005 04:55 PM

Huge fan of the blues. I find it so easy to write/play on guitar, it just seems to come naturally from inside of you...no matter what kind of song I always try to write, people always tell me it's too bluesy. It's great to listen to as well.

unclebobscircus 02-07-2005 05:31 PM

I like blues rock a bit more than I like straight blues, honestly.

longvonsilver 02-07-2005 05:35 PM

Clapton

Claptons prime was with the bluesbreakers, just to let u all know

Jam2Me 02-07-2005 05:39 PM
Claptons prime was with the bluesbreakers, just to let u all know
Back that statement up and I'll believe it. Actually I problably won't I'll always favor his Derek and the Dominos work because of Duane and Bobby, and "Layla." "Keep on Growing" is my favorite song on the album though.
The Layla Sessions Jams are awesome too.

longvonsilver 02-07-2005 05:58 PM

Cant really back it up, just me and a lot of the lads think it was his best period, showed the true eric clapton, his cream years were also amazing, but what do i know, im just a guy who plays guitar

Seafroggys 02-07-2005 06:10 PM

I prefer the blues-influenced rock moreso than 'blues rock' (think Cream and such). But I love playing blues stuff.

I think Clapton's prime was Cream's last three albums. That's just me, though.

So Diserali Gears, Wheels of Fire and Goodbye or what? I dont understand?

Woodstock 02-07-2005 06:26 PM

So would any of you recommend Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton?

lunch998 02-07-2005 06:34 PM
I think Clapton's prime was Cream's last three albums. That's just me, though.
As opposed to their first three?

Woodstock 02-07-2005 06:42 PM

I just bought: Well Respected Kinks for $7.99(which is a damn good price at the mall)

I don't like Fresh Cream that much, I just think most of it sounds too poppy and too typical of the British invasion era. Their other albums are complete genius, though.

I love fresh Cream. Raw blues rock pretty much to me. Maybe somewhat typical of the British invasion, but not very many people were doing what Cream was doing in 1966.

So are we counting Goodbye as an album?

lunch998 02-07-2005 06:55 PM

Goodbye was severly lacking.

Woodstock 02-07-2005 06:55 PM

There's nothing wrong with British Invasion music. Therefore, nothing wrong with Fresh Cream.

BludgeonySteve 02-07-2005 06:59 PM

Clapton didn't really get awesome at guitar until the mid 70s. His stuff was Cream and The Yardbirds was good but not great. His solo carreer definitly had the best guitar playing. Even Layla and some Cream songs that he played live when he went solo improved and he made them better.

Maybe so, but his playing was still innovative in the 60's.

BludgeonySteve 02-07-2005 07:03 PM

For the 60s he was godly :)

Maybe techincally speaking he reached his peak after the 60's, but I don't think his music was ever any better than it was from 65-71.

BludgeonySteve 02-07-2005 07:04 PM

I only meant his guitar playing. Without Jack Bruce his music declined (it still stayed good!)

That's a funny way of looking at it but it's true.

Ok, then you are probably correct. Without Jack Bruce any guitarist's music would decline.

magicbus 02-07-2005 07:38 PM

Moving slow tonight.

I loved Clapton in Cream. He was so influential then.

ASnd he had cool hair.

jpj 02-07-2005 08:11 PM

I was on JPJ's website and it says that he will be at this year's Grammy Awards because Zeppelin is recieving a lifetime achievement award. It'd be cool if he performed, but there's no chance :(
