Yeah, we were heading for Lack of Comprehension at first, but you know :p

Heheh, yeah Crystal Mountain will be awsome if we do pull it off. :)

Toaster 09-28-2006 03:46 PM

Are you gonna sing?

Stormrider 09-28-2006 03:51 PM

Nah, my brother is going to do that. I'm going to play rythm, and the lil leads, lie intro one and chorus one. I think...

Yeah :)

I posted it in the Death thread, maybe we should go in there :p

Kreator2112 09-28-2006 04:32 PM

It sucks this thread is just plainly named "Opeth."

If you guys could rename it, what would it be?

In my Time of Opeth?

In the Thread She was Typing?

Kage 09-28-2006 04:34 PM

No.

The whole cheesey thread title fad passed a long time ago.

Stormrider 09-28-2006 04:36 PM

Nah, Opeth is perfectly fine. I should change my Iced Earth one back to just Iced Earth.

Though R&M's Inferno is cool

I'm going to be hated for this, but I just don't like Opeth. I beleive the first song I heard by them was "In Mist She Was Standing" as well.. but.. I didn't like it. Maybe I'm just listening to the wrong songs.

Anglachel 09-28-2006 04:58 PM

I don't think theyre THAT bad....

TojesDolan 09-28-2006 05:07 PM

Look Your Last Upon The Sun (Opeth) was alright.

Eternal Thread Torture?

I'm glad I thought of the title for the Porcupine Tree thread. It makes me all happy every time I click on it.

They are an acquired taste. I didn't like death metal at first but after a while its not all that crazy anymore and its just normal music to me. I think thats probably the case (even though there not really pure death metal). I don't think I'd enjoy a 15 minute song by any band the first time around.

TojesDolan 09-28-2006 05:44 PM

Nah it's OK, we accept all peoples.

*refers to the quote*

*puts axe away*

Ergh, anyway maybe you began with the wrong song. Orchid is mostly approachable to those familiar with Gothenburg metal, but some albums like Damnation is good for general Rock fans, and Blackwater Park is good to begin with, period.

Sounds dirty. :smash:

BWP is an EXCELLENT album to start with for Opeth.

TojesDolan 09-28-2006 06:03 PM

It has the right balance between softer and harder moments. It battles with Still Life for that place, but BWP is just more consistent in particular moments. Still Life is consistent, period.

Maybe it clicks faster with BWP than SL.

Blackwater Park or Damnation would be some good Opeth albums for getting into them.

On blackwater park, check out the song The Drapery falls. It has some of the best sounding clean vocals ever. (IMO)

Yeah, those vocals are so amazing.

lightningmetal666 09-28-2006 06:15 PM
Yeah, those vocals are so amazing.
It just seems so weird that a guy that can sing like that can do a 'bout face and give some grinding DM vocals. It can really throw a person off.:p

TojesDolan 09-28-2006 06:28 PM

Yeah.

Dirge for November is also like mellow then rock and roll and WoAh MetAlL!L.

I've been trying to learn BWP (song) on guitar and I have to admit, it isn't easy. The first few riffs are really fun to play though.:thumb:

I like having come up with the Moonsorrow thread title....I know I probably should of just said Moonsorrow, but that would look boring.

I think that threadtitle thing is just overdone. There are some really good ones, but to me, they're just too cheesy.

Nostalgia 09-28-2006 07:35 PM

Pun titles were so '05. God, keep up, guys.

Any clue as to what the '07 trend will be like? j/k.

Haha, nope, not yet.
It just seems so weird that a guy that can sing like that can do a 'bout face and give some grinding DM vocals. It can really throw a person off.:p
The weirdest is how, normally, a metal singer who growls or whatever will have a raspy singing voice. And when metal singers introduce song titles, or talk to their audience, they typically put on a "metal voice", you know, the raspy, tough-sounding voice of strongmen. But Mikael has the smoothest singing voice.. not the barest hint of raspiness in there.

Eliminator 09-28-2006 08:58 PM

That's because he's the man.

Riziger 09-28-2006 11:58 PM

eyyyy.....I'm thinking of picking up a Opeth album sometime soon. I've already got a lot of their tracks and IMO I think they sound better in their slower songs where Mikael actually sings.

Which album shud i get based on these? I've heard Ghost Reveries is their softest?

Kage 09-29-2006 12:00 AM

Eh, it depends. If you still want some heavier songs that have a lot of the clean singing and soft parts, and you're willing to live with the growls, get Still Life and Blackwater Park. If you don't want any of the harsh vocals or heavy parts, Damnation is nothing but soft songs with clean singing. Ghost Reveries has a lot of singing on it too.
