i'm happy that i have my own room, but some days ago two of my best girlfriends asked me if i would move with them into an apartment... i think i will do it. i don't want to live in an students place forever... sure it has advantages and disadvantages, but an apartment is much cooler :thumb:

I've been trying to learn more Bodom songs since I got my 7 string (real easy to tune down a full step) but my girlfriend won't leave me alone long enough to concentrate. It's getting pretty damn annoying.

yea, yesterday day the one associate actually recommended I try out this Ibanez because he knew I would like it.
It turns out, he was exactly right. Best fukking neck I've ever played on an Ibanez, and this is coming from a guy that purchased a JEM there, and then traded it back to them because it was trash |
wow... i just played guitar again... too stupid i can play only the E,A,D,G,B notes :upset:
but at least i can concentrate only on my picking hand. i do: -------0-0-0- 0-0-0-------etc and -------------0-0-0-0-0 -0-0-0-0-0---------- yeah (5notes) and some string skipping... and some random rhythms (without metronome) what else could i do? :lol: unknownsoldier... you're good in the sense of theory ... some good advice... this can be the best time (for me) to concentrate on proper picking technique. |
yea man, thats really what I've been focusing on..... a lot
If I could only work on my picking hand, i would do endurance excercises at slow speeds for an extended period of time. A good example would be like watching TV, yet having the metronome at like 69-80 bpm, and just chug along at 16th notes for a while, yet trying to maintain proper technique. Also, you could work on arpeggios. Tune your guitar to like an open tuning and just focus on the string making contact with the pick. You need to really feel where on the pick it is making contact. You could also work on dynamics. Lets say you were playing 16th notes (4 notes per beat). You could really accentuate the down beat (where the click falls) by digging into the string, or giving it more attack. On the subsequent notes after (the other 3 notes of the beat) try to make them softer, yet uniform. I would also do string skipping exercises. Like, play 4 notes on the Low E, then 4 notes on the A, then 4 notes on the low E, then 4 notes on the D, then 4 notes on the low E, then 4 notes on the G, etc. I'm sure I could come up with more. That's just off the top of my head |
when i do solos stuff my fingers are angled (a slight fist) but when i do rhythm my fingers are placed somwhere on the body of the guitar (mainly right beneath the strings)... is this a bad habit?
when i play songs i change the position, so its never a problem, but right now when concentrating only on my right hand its stupid... maybe i should practise both ways? ps.: your new avatar owns !!! |

as far as your picking technique is concerned, it REALLY doesn't matter, but if it were me, i would try to have it uniform. I look at guitar similar to the way I used to pitch baseball back in the day. You want find the BEST way to perform an action, and have that as your reference point. Your goal is to have everything be the exact same when you go through the motions. This way, it will allow to find better ways to perform a task, as well as give you that precision you need where you no longer make mistakes |
yeah, i have to watch some more guitar vids... f.e.: would like to play like paul gilbert but its the way i only do solo-stuff.
on the other hand my techique is similiar to the one of alexi laiho and Jani Liimatainen (more Jani, than Alexi) - whatever... i have to watch them and decide whats better for me. |

The thing is, im really not that impressed with any of the guitarist's technique you've mentioned. If you want to see someone with REALLY good technique, watch some more Michael Romeo videos, or even better, some Buckethead and Shawn Lane videos. The last 2 people I've mentioned have some of the BEST technique I've ever seen, so thats really who I try to emulate |

Custom Jackson RR-1 with Seymour Duncan pickups I think and it was the first time he used the Je-100 gainboost in his guitar with Children of Bodom. Modified Lee Jackson gp-1000 pre-amp (perfect connection) with either his Engl or Peavey power amp and a Rocktron Intellifex with 300-watt Marshall cabs. It's the same stuff he used for Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper and I think Hate Crew Deathroll. |

tbqh i thought it was total crap. Also it had to do with how he was playing, and the rhythms he played very sloppily. Sometimes, I would just listen to Ale just because Alexi was irritating my right ear. Sure maybe it was mixed bad i donno, but check Lake bodom, during the chorus, you cannot hear what he is playing,it just sounds like noise. That sucks. He did the leads very well though, so maybe it was just a mixing issue. |
I think his tone was good. Maybe it sounds bad sometimes because he's concentrating on the vocals, not to mention the parts are hard.
The Chaos Ridden Years cd has leaked btw. It's really not that great tbh, even Roope sounds bada lot of the time. |
